This low carb bread recipe with almond flour came about somewhat by accident during my Sunday keto meal planning. Lately Ive been making the flattened version of my 4-ingredient almond flour biscuits to use for sandwiches each week, but since Ive been wanting to create a keto almond flour bread recipe, last weekend I decided to attempt that instead.

This is one of the closest ways Ive come to a carb-free bread or carbless bread. Technically, cloud bread is lower in carbs, but the texture is much further from real bread. My white keto bread recipe is also lower in carbs , but that one is more like a fluffy white instead of a classic wheat. That one is more light, while this low carb gluten-free bread is chewy and similar to wheat bread. You can also make coconut flour bread without any almond flour at all or for a sweeter almond flour loaf, make almond flour zucchini bread. Just depends on what youre going for!

This low carb gluten-free bread post was originally published on March 13, 2017 and the post was republished in December 2020 to add useful tips and answer common questions. Its still the same delicious keto almond bread recipe that has been popular for years!

Ways To Use Keto Biscuits With Almond Flour

I actually have two ways of making these keto almond flour biscuits: biscuits as shown, and also a larger, flatter version for bread rounds. The ingredients and method are the same both ways.

TIP: You may need to reduce the baking time by a couple of minutes for the flatter ones. Since they are not as thick, they cook a little faster.

The biscuit shape is perfect to have as a side with:

Alternatively, you can make the larger, flatter version of these almond flour biscuits to use as a bun for a juicy burger or in place of low carb bread for any sandwich. They are also great for my keto breakfast sandwich recipe, if you want to swap the pancake layers with biscuits.

Does Almond Flour Taste Different Than Regular Flour

Some people say yes, while others say no. There are a few factors to consider when deciding if almond flour tastes different than regular flour. One is that almond flour is ground from whole almonds, which gives it a sweeter flavor. Another key difference between the two types of flour is that almond flour is not all-purpose it can also be used for baking in recipes that call for bread, pasta, and pizza dough.

Ingredients You Will Need

You only need 5 simple ingredients and a few pantry staples to make this almond flour banana bread recipe. Detailed recipe card is located below.

  • Ripe bananas: Very ripe bananas of deep yellow colour with plenty of black spots on the outside.
  • Almond flour: I use blanched finely ground almond flour in this recipe. It tastes and acts differently from any other flour. It is basically finely ground raw blanched almonds. I have not tried almond meal in this recipe.
  • Eggs: Provides lift and structure to this bread.
  • Any sweetener: Use any liquid sweetener like maple syrup, honey or your favorite sugar-free alternative. You can also use any dry sweetener. I tested this recipe Lakanto monkfruit sweetener and it tasted great!
  • Oil: Any mild tasting oil like light olive oil, melted coconut oil, grapeseed oil will work.
  • Pure vanilla extract: Use the real stuff, not imitation.
  • Cinnamon and salt: Cinnamon for a warming taste . And then salt to taste.
  • Baking powder and soda: Leavening agents to provide rise.

Is This Bread Recipe With Almond Flour Good For Sandwiches

Gluten-free Almond Flour Bread. SCD legal

Absolutely! If you use a small 1 pound loaf pan, you will end up with a perfect sandwich bread / toast shape.

FYI: The loaf pan in the image above is a large 9 x 5 inch loaf pan. It’s the pan I used in the video for my first loaf. If you use a small loaf pan, the dough will fill the entire pan. The loaves in the images and the one shown at the end of the video are made using a small loaf pan.

Let the bread cool fully before slicing. It is fragile when straight out of the oven, but firms up as it cools.

How Do I Substitute Almond Or Coconut Flour For All

All-purpose flour is equal to one cup. A cup of coconut flour yields about 4 cups. You can bake coconut flour at the same temperature as any other recipe without having to make any adjustments. Almond flour should be used in proportion to coconut flour in order to provide a suitable flour ratio. Without the need for more eggs, we use low-carbohydrate flour in this recipe that closely mimics all-purpose flour.

All-purpose flour can be replaced with coconut flour at 1:1 ratio. It is common for almond flour to require more egg or binding agent, so the recipe may need to be altered. When coconut flour is baked, the mixture becomes dense and absorbs a lot of moisture. Wheat and coconut flours have high carbohydrates and low nutrients, whereas almond flour has higher levels of nutrients and lower carbohydrates. Furthermore, it has less phytic acid, which means it contains more nutrients, so when you eat it, you are more likely to get them. Paleo diets rely on the addition of texture and flavor to almond flour.
