Labeling Your Freezer Meals
Labeling your freezer meals is one of the most important parts of freezer prep and freezer cooking. The last couple times Ive made freezer meals, Ive created labels with the cooking instructions directly written on them and I. LOVE. IT.
Seriously, the last time I pulled something out of the freezer with the directions already on it, I literally patted myself on the back. You think Im kidding
It makes it so much easier than having to go find the original recipe to look up the instructions I wrote down. This time around, I wont always be the one cooking, so this way whoever takes it out of the freezer knows exactly what they need to do.
For the larger pans that just need to be heated through, I simply write what temperature the oven needs to be at and how long to keep it in.
For the other items that either need a little more or have specific instructions, I used labels to write the directions out.
And this time around, I made a few dinner kits as well. I honestly did this to save myself a little room in the freezer while getting the dinner process started for us. For these kits, I wrote what still needed to be added to the meal and how to cook them.
The basic essentials I had on hand for labeling were:
- Masking tape
- Cling Wrap
- Sharpie or Permanent Marker

What Is The Best Dairy Substitute For Cooking
For cooking and baking, you will want to use non-dairy milk as an equal replacement for dairy milk. Just substitute whatever milk you choose in in the same amount required in your recipe.
As far as consistency goes, nut milks and soy milks are the creamiest. They are great for making sauces, and they work very well in baking, too. Coconut milk is another good option, and has the benefit of being very white in color, which is great if you are using it to make a white frosting.
Some non-dairy milks have unusual colors which look different from dairy milk. Nut milks are often a creamy pale color, and oat milk is more of a yellow color. Hemp milk is a beige shade and has a very earthy flavor that takes some getting used to. Flax milk is also a little bit beige, and tastes like ground flax seeds.
Rice milk is very non-allergenic, but can contain arsenic, so rice milk products are best avoided for children under age five. Rice milk is also the thinnest of the non-dairy milks, so its not the best choice for a cream sauce or creamy soup.
If you are replacing heavy cream in a recipe, then youll want to use canned, full-fat coconut milk. It is super thick and creamy and adds a lot of richness to the recipe. I love it for making curries. You can also use it to make coconut whipped cream.
