Gluten Free Ice Cream Cone Options

Sugar Free/Keto Ice Cream THAT STAYS SCOOPABLE No Machine Needed (Dairy Free Options)

If you are in the mood for a cone, there are a few different options out there now! This has not always been the case! In fact, you can find most of these gluten free ice cream cones right in the baking section of your local grocery store usually by all of the ice cream toppings. This is the brand that our grocery store carries . The ingredient list isnt perfect, but we also dont have cones every time we have ice cream I save them for special days.

Snow Monkey Superfood Ice Treat

Although they market it as an ice treat Ive seen this brand refer to their product as an ice cream alternative in various places. Unfortunately, no matter what you call this frozen dessert, not many people are loving it. Its icy, a bit powdery, and is a bit lighter in sweetness than many consumers expect.

  • Sweeteners: banana puree, water, apple puree, maple syrup in select flavors
  • Calories per 1/2 cup: 98 to 102
  • Sugars per 1/2 cup: 10 to 14 grams

Why Is My Ice Cream Hard To Scoop

You should see in the instructions that I recommend letting the ice cream sit at room temperature before scooping. Directly from the freezer, it will be too hard to scoop, but should be easy after thawing a bit.

Commercial ice creams typically include preservatives which allow them to be softer when frozen. Since our homemade gluten free ice cream doesnt include any chemicals, we need to use time to get it soft enough.

Low Carb Sweetener Options

If you don’t have chocolate liquid stevia you can just use plain or even vanilla. I tried just ½ teaspoon and let my children share with me but we all thought it was not sweet enough.

If you don’t have any liquid stevia you can use packets of stevia. I would suggest 3.

You could also try Chocolate liquid Monk Fruit or use my Sweetener Guide & Conversion Chart for other options.

If you don’t want to make my Coffee Simple Syrup, use liquid Allulose.

I do not recommend using erythritol because it tends to crystalize the ice cream and after freezing is very rock solid and hard.

How To Make Paleo Vanilla Ice Cream

Let’s discuss how to make this dairy-free vanilla ice cream, and as always don’t forget to watch the video.

Blend! Use a Vitamix or regular blender and blend the ingredients together until smooth.

Thoroughly blending the Almond Butter into the coconut milk not only ensures that the flavors are distributed evenly, but it also helps create a creamy texture.

Next, churn the ice cream in an ice cream maker. Make sure to turn the machine on and pour the vanilla mixture into the machine as it is turning.

This will prevent the ice cream from getting frozen to the sides immediately, which prevents the machine from turning.

Non-ice cream maker instructions:

If you don’t have an ice cream maker. Simply pour the ice cream mixture from the Vitamix into a freezer-friendly container. Put it in the freezer and stir by hand every 15 minutes until it’s frozen. It won’t be as creamy but it will still taste delicious!

How To Choose A Gluten

When shopping for a gluten-free ice cream product, the most important consideration is whether the product contains gluten.

While some ingredients, such as cake or cookie dough pieces, often indicate the presence of gluten, some brands use gluten-free flour in flavors that contain these mix-ins to make them safe for people who cant eat gluten.

Therefore, its important to check the ingredient label for gluten-containing ingredients such as wheat flour and barley malt syrup. Many brands will also include a note in the ingredients section that mentions whether the product contains common allergens such as gluten.

Keep in mind that even if gluten-containing ingredients arent present in the ice cream, there may be a risk of cross contamination if the ice cream was produced in a facility that handles gluten-containing products.

This is why people who have celiac disease and those who wish to completely avoid gluten should look for a gluten-free label.

All foods labeled gluten-free, free of gluten, no gluten, or without gluten must have less than 20 parts per million of gluten, according to rules set by the Food and Drug Administration .

Other factors to consider before purchasing a gluten-free ice cream include price, available flavors, and additional dietary needs and preferences. For example, some gluten-free ice creams are also dairy-free or vegan.

No Churn Dairy Free Cake Batter Ice Cream

For years, one of my favorite gluten free no churn ice cream recipe has been my gluten free cake batter ice cream. With real birthday cake batter flavor (thanks to some toasted gluten free flour, or cake mix, a blue buttercream frosting swirl and a ton of sprinkles, it is always a hit.

It has taken me awhile to get the dairy free cake batter ice cream to you, because nailing a no churn ice cream is no easy feat. I ran into a few issues at firsts, and my dairy free no churn ice cream looked like cottage cheese.

I figured it out, and am breaking it all down so that you dont have a curdled mess on your hands.

If you do have an ice cream machine, Im including directions for making this recipe with an ice cream machine too. Honestly, using an ice cream machine is a TON easier than making it no churn. I love my Bosch Ice Cream Attachment for my Nutrimill Artiste Mixer.

Please note, this ice cream is coconut milk based and so it does taste like coconut to some degree. It will taste less like coconut the colder your ice cream is. It if softens or gets melty, it will taste more like coconut.

I’ve swept the supermarket shelves to see what gluten free ice-creams you need to have at the ready!

I first wrote this post back in 2018 so I’ve gone through and updated it – hopefully all of your favourites are still around!

All of those listed below are gluten and dairy free ice-creams, and most of them are vegan too.

How To Make Gluten Free Ice Cream From Scratch

  • Line a 9×5 loaf pan with parchment paper. Place in the freezer.
  • Combine sweetened condensed milk, vanilla paste , and salt in a large mixing bowl.
  • In a separate mixing bowl, beat heavy whipping cream on medium high speed until stiff peaks form, similar to making whipped cream.
  • Gently fold the whipped cream into the sweetened condensed milk. If desired, stir in any add-ins youd like.
  • Pour into prepared pan, cover with plastic wrap and freeze at least 6 hours or overnight.
  • Serve in a gluten free ice cream cone and enjoy!

    To make the cookies and cream gluten free ice cream shown in the pictures, I added in about ¾ cup of crushed gluten free chocolate sandwich cookies.

    • Coconut milk: Full-fat coconut cream or coconut milk can be used in this recipe with great results! Using light coconut milk will cause it to be less creamy.
    • Almond butter: Any nut or seed butter can be used in this recipe. Besides almond butter I recommend cashew butter.
    • Honey. This dairy-free vanilla ice cream recipe calls for honey or maple syrup as the sweetener! Both of these sweeteners yield a delicious and creamy ice cream, but the maple syrup will impart a slight maple flavor.

    We prefer using an ice cream maker since it gets the ice cream made much faster and I think its creamier, but you can make this without an ice cream maker if you want .

    Blend up your ingredients in the blender like normal and then pour it into a freezer safe glass dish, like a loaf pan. Pop it in the freezer until its frozen through, about 3-4 hours.

    Once youre ready to dish it up, you can warm it in the microwave for a little bit to soften it just enough to help with scooping.
