Which Way To Cut The Bell Peppers
The base of this recipe uses 6 bell peppers that are halved lengthwise. While some recipes slice the top off, theres a few reasons why I halve them the other way.

This pork is soaked in a sweet, garlicky teriyaki marinade, and the apples are sautéed with ginger and Chinese spices, making for a perfect, sophisticated, yin-yang partnership . These teriyaki pork chops are easy enough to throw together on any given busy Tuesday night, but they’re seemingly fancy enough to serve to dinner guests on a special Saturday.

Filling Ingredients For Stuffed Peppers
The filling in this classic version is just a handful of simple ingredients, such as:
- Ground Beef: If youre not a fan of beef, ground chicken or turkey will work too.
- Onion & Garlic: adding both ingredients will kick up the savoriness.
- Tomatoes: Im using fire roasted diced tomatoes for that smoky depth of flavor
- Rice: You can use any kind of rice, including white, brown, or wild rice.

- Cheese: Monterey Jack cheese pairs nicely with this recipe. But you can also use shredded Pepper Jack, Swiss, or Mozzarella.

Are oats gluten-free?
Yes but you should check the label. Although oats contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to gluten, most people with coeliac disease can safely eat oats. The issue is that many of the oat products available in the supermarket are manufactured in factories that also handle grains such as wheat, rye and barley. This means that the oats may be cross-contaminated with gluten. When shopping for oats, always check that the label specifies that the product is gluten-free.
How Much Food Should You Pack For Backpacking
For most backpackers, who plan on hiking all day with a heavier pack, Backpacker.com suggests aiming for 25-30 calories per pound of body weight, per day. For shorter hiking days or if covering less strenuous terrain, you can scale it down to 21-25 calories per pound of body weight, per day.
Instead of eating just three meals per day like you might at home, aim to eat throughout the day and consume 30-60 grams of carbohydrates per hour to keep your energy high and prevent hitting the wall.
Again, these are just rough estimations. Everyones body burns calories at different rates. So if you are preparing for a longer backpacking trip, you will absolutely want to do a few weekend shakedown trips to get a sense of what your appetite will be like.

What Are Freezer Meals
Before we dive into all of the delicious recipes. Lets take a moment to discuss what freezer meals are.
Freezer meals are simply a way to prepare your recipe ahead of time. This can be done a couple of ways:
- Dump meals AKA No pre cooking required
Dump meals are what super busy moms dreams are made of!
This is where you dump all of the ingredients into a bag, and place into the freezer. You will thaw the bag of ingredients in the fridge overnight. And then toss into a slow cooker, Instant pot, or sheet pan to cook the next day.
- Partial cook freezer meals
The partial cook freezer meals will be more along the lines of casseroles and some soups. This is where you will cook your meat, and go ahead and build the layers to the recipe. A perfect example of this would be lasagna or enchiladas.
Then you will place your ingredients in a disposable pan, and heat when you are ready to eat.
- Leftover freezer meals
This is when you will freeze whatever leftovers you have from a meal, and freeze for later. Another one of busy moms favorites because its like the gift that keeps on giving.
P.S. You can totally freeze pizza leftovers the next time you order delivery.

This post may contain affiliate links.
There are tons of gluten-free backpacking food options out there, but the trick is knowing where to look! In this guide, weve collected options as we could find to build a comprehensive resource for gluten-free backpacking meals!
Whether you have Celiac, are gluten intolerant, or just trying to cut down your gluten consumption, trying to find gluten-free backpacking food often requires an exhaustive amount of label-reading. This means parsing through every ingredient list with a magnifying glass to ensure some weirdo wheat-derivative wasnt slipped into an otherwise benign-looking product.
Thankfully the backpacking food industry has realized the growing demand for gluten-free products and has not only started producing more options but properly labeling their gluten-free backpacking meals.
So we scoured the internet to find as many gluten-free freeze-dried and dehydrated meals as we could, and were sharing them all in one place. So if you are a gluten-free backpacker this is your one-stop-shop!
