Easy Gluten Free Pizza Dough

How To Make VEGAN PIZZA! (Bob’s Red Mill GF Pizza Crust)
  • 2 TBSP Olive Oil
  • Water, up to ¼ cup as needed
  • Cornmeal for dusting pan

Combine the water, yeast and honey and allow to sit for 5 minutes or until active and bubbly. While waiting, prepare the egg replacer according to package directions.

In a large bowl of a stand up mixer, combine the millet flour, rice flour, xanthan gum, baking powder and salt. Whisk to combine. Next add the egg replacer , olive oil and yeast mixture. Blend on medium using a dough hook. Add additional water as needed starting with a tablespoon at a time. Knead in your mixer for 5 minutes.

Place dough in an oiled bowl and cover with a towel. If you want to bake your pizzas later, place the dough in the fridge for a slow rise. If you are baking this sooner, either leave in a warm draft free place in your kitchen or place in your oven with the light on. Allow to rise until doubled in size. This will take 1 to 2 hours depending on how warm your area is. The oven only takes about an hour.

When ready to bake, preheat your oven to 450°. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Lightley dust your parchment paper with cornmeal. Divide the dough into 2 even pieces. Roll the dough into a ball, then with wet hands flatten the dough into the shape you desire. Place in the dough in the preheated oven for 5 minutes. Top as you like and bake for an additional 10 to 15 minutes or until your cheese is browned and bubbly and your crust is golden brown.

Quick Guide: How To Make Sourdough Gluten Free Pizza Crust In Five Easy Steps

This gluten free pizza crust recipe yields 2 10-11 Pizzas. If youd like to freeze one or both for later, do-so after par baking, then thaw at room temperature just prior to topping the pizza and baking. In summary, heres how to make sourdough discard pizza crust :

  • First: mix warm water, sourdough discard and olive oil.
  • Second: into the water mixture, add all purpose 1:1 gluten free flour, almond flour, psyllium husk powder, tapioca flour, salt, quick rise yeast and baking powder all at once.

How To Make Gluten

  • Mix your warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit until proofed.
  • Add ingredients to mixer and mix until combined.
  • Scrap the sides of the bowl until the dough is in a loose ball.
  • Using oiled hands, spread the dough into a circle about 10-12 inches in diameter.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the center is set. Remove from the oven.
  • Spread marinara sauce . Leave a little bit of space between the sauce and the edges.
  • Sprinkle on cheese of choice.
  • Add any additional toppings and place back in the oven. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the cheese is melted and starts to turn brown.
  • Making homemade gluten-free pizza recipe has always been comforting to me. In a lot of cases, you’ll make the gluten-free pizza crust recipe in about as much time as it would take to get delivery or run to the store, so it’s not that much of a time sacrifice when you think about it.

    Plus, homemade gluten-free pizza has such a unique taste, something you can’t get from a delivery. And a lot of times, I prefer the taste of homemade gluten-free pizza.

    What Other Flours Can I Use In This Pizza Crust Recipe


    I have tested this gluten-free pizza crust recipe with Bob’s Red Mill 1-to-1 Gluten Free Flour Blend. It works incredible in this recipe and it’s my other go-to flour blend.

    If you want to mix your own blend for this pizza combine 1 cup white rice flour, ¾ cup brown rice flour, ¼ cup tapioca starch.

    I haven’t tried this gluten-free pizza dough recipe with other flour blends. If you do, please come back and let me know which gluten-free flour blend you used.

    We’ve used this gluten-free pizza recipe several times just this month, and we’ve started passing the recipe on to friends and family member to show them how easy making your own pizza at home can be.

    Thin Crust or Thick Crust Pizza?

    Depending on how you shape the dough will depend on whether youll create a thick or thin crust pizza. I typically go for a thinner crust by shaping the edges a little narrower . However for a thicker crust, shape the pizza a bit smaller and allow for a little bulk around the edges.

    What Kind of Pizza Pan to Use?

    To bake the pizza, you can use either a pizza stone and/or the back of a sheet pan or one of each. When baking multiple pizzas, preheating the pan or stone will help create a crispy crust. You can use either because they both produce similar results with sourdough gluten free pizza dough.

    Is the Pizza Crust Freezer Friendly?

    Yes! There are two ways to freeze: 1. Freeze the dough balls in freezer bags or freeze the par baked pizza crust. Freezing the dough is convenient, however, it looses some of its leavening power and the final texture of the dough is compromised. 2. Freeze the par baked crust. This is the method I prefer because its super easy to thaw, top and bake in short order.

    Is Sourdough Pizza Crust Gluten Free?

    Yes and no. It depends on the sourdough starter and flours used in the recipe. If gluten free flours are used to make a starter and pizza dough, then sourdough pizza crust is gluten free. However, if gluten full flours are used to make the starter and pizza dough, then the pizza crust is not gluten free.

    Add Toppings And Bake

    Once your gluten-free pizza crust is par-baked, crank up the oven to 450º F and then add your sauce, cheese and toppings, leaving room around the edge of the crust.

    Bake the pizza for 8-12 minutes or until cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.

    You Mention A Pizza Stone In Your Directions I Don’t Have One

    First, I highly recommend getting a pizza stone if you don’t have one. It really makes a huge difference when you make gluten-free pizza.

    But no worries. If you don’t have one, simply use a heavy baking sheet.

    If you don’t have a heavy baking sheet then you can use a cookie sheet. Let it preheat in the oven just as you would a pizza stone.

    You can do this before you make your gluten-free pizza dough.
