Pf Chang Style Lettuce Wraps

Dining Review, Gluten Free at P. F. Chang’s China Bistro

There are a lot of recipes for PF Chang style lettuce wraps floating around the internet, but this one is gluten-free and casein-free. Plus we make our own hoisin sauce.

Most of the recipes I found require hoisin sauce, which is not going to be gluten-free.

So I looked through a few homemade recipes for hoisin and came up with my own version using:

  • gluten-free, non-GMO coconut aminos
  • whole sesame seed tahini instead of peanut butter
  • organic brown sugar
  • organic rice vinegar
  • and my favorite new ingredient, Thai red curry paste

They were so quick and easy to make, too! First we make up the hoisin sauce and set aside. Most of the other prep just comes from washing and chopping the vegetables.

Start cooking the chopped mushrooms first with a little salt and pepper. Then add in the shallot and garlic. This gives it so much flavor and the mushrooms are a great source of dietary fiber. Good for feeding the gut bugs.

Next is ground turkey. You can substitute ground chicken or ground pork, too. Its really good with both as well!

We used lean ground turkey here and added some green cabbage to the filling for added nutrition and dietary fiber. I had some extra white rice so we served with a little white rice on butter lettuce leaves they were so delicious!

My husband absolutely LOVED them!

Another trick weve used is frying rice noodles to give it an extra texture and crunch. We make them for our Asian Chicken Salad as well.

P.F. Changs is an Asian restaurant concept founded on making food from scratch every day in every restaurant. Created in 1993 by Philip Chiang and Paul Fleming, P.F. Changs is the first multi-unit restaurant concept in the U.S. to honor and celebrate the 2,000-year-old tradition of wok cooking as the center of the guest experience. Since inception, P.F. Changs chefs have been hand-rolling dim sum, hand chopping and slicing all vegetables and meats, scratch cooking every sauce and wok-cooking each dish, every day in every restaurant. P.F. Changs new Farm to Wok® menu highlights its wholesome, scratch-cooking approach and introduces new dishes and drinks for lunch, happy hour and dinner.

Making Chang’s Spicy Chicken

Step 1: Get your rice started.Step 2: Dice the chicken and dredge with cornstarch. Step 3: Make the batter for the chicken by whisking together the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and water.

Pro-tip! It should be thin like pancake batter . Add more water if needed.

Step 4: Make the sauce.Step 5: Dip the chicken pieces in batter and fry the chicken bites. You can fry them in a pan or use a deep fryer. Oh man, are those chicken bites good all on their own!Step 6: Combine some chicken bites with sauce and serve over steamed white rice. Top with a sprinkle of green onions.

Pro-Tip! Toss portions of chicken together with the sauce as you serve it. This way the chicken will stay crispier, even as it sits than if you combine everything together at once.

It’s so hard to find gluten-free noodles that don’t fall apart or have a slightly rubbery consistency. Instead of being made from flour, the noodles in this dish are made from rice . The noodles are tossed with light curry sauce, chicken, shrimp, egg, onion, and julienned vegetables. They’re so good you’ll forget they’re gluten-free!

CLEVELAND, Ohio Going gluten-free means giving up a lot for many people. Whether that be a favorite beer, a go-to pizza spot or the hottest Italian restaurant in town, most of us have had to forget about how we used to eat and find a new normal.

For me, it was most of my favorite Asian restaurants. Gone are the days of trying new pad Thai dishes around Cleveland and indulging on hibachi because of one hidden source of gluten: soy sauce.

So I was all that more excited to learn P.F. Changs, with locations in 40 U.S. states, has an extensive special gluten-free menu. Im planning a trip to the Beachwood or Akron location soon to try some of the dishes.

You can check out the menu at the link above or in the list below. As always, when dining at a restaurant that also serves dishes with gluten, make sure to be cautious about cross contamination. Let your server know the importance of ensuring your dish is gluten-free and, if you have it, bring along a Nima sensor to test your dish.

How to order VEGAN at PF Chang’s [WSLF Oil Free Gluten Free]

P.F. Chang’s has always been one of our family’s go-to restaurants for a reliable, safe, and delicious gluten free meal. So my son and I were happy when my aunt treated us to dinner at their Natick Mall location in the suburbs of Boston last Friday night, right after we concluded our annual week at Camp Celiac in North Scituate, Rhode Island .

My aunt and her friend were craving the Philip’s Better Lemon Chicken, one of our favorites, too. However, upon being seated, we quickly discovered the Philip’s Better Lemon Chicken was no longer on the menu. It had been replaced by Cantonese Style Lemon Chicken, which is described as, “crispy chicken breast sliced and drizzled with warm lemon sauce and chilled broccolini.”

We asked our server if we could get the chef to make the Philip’s Better Lemon Chicken instead, because I’d remembered they often honored customer requests for this dish during a brief period a couple years ago when they’d taken it off the menu. However, we were told they weren’t able to do that, because they did not have all the ingredients required for the old recipe.

I’d be curious to hear if you’ve dined at P.F. Chang’s since this menu change — and what your favorite gluten free items are.

    The Art Of Fresh Ingredients

To understand the freshness of our food, it’s important to take a look inside the scratch kitchens at each of our restaurants. We can’t have a high-quality presentation if we cut corners in the kitchen.

The best Asian herbs and vegetables are chopped daily, and our meat is fresh and sliced right before it hits the wok. Even our sauces are made from scratch every day. It’s this extra step and attention to detail that sets us apart from everyone else.
