How To Make Sugar
If you cant enjoy chocolate cake without frosting, Ive got you covered.
This cake requires a creamy decadent frosting/icing, but not as sweet as you may be used to, and thats for good reason. To live sugar-free, you need to slowly adapt your tastebuds to less sweet foods.
The cream cheese provides some sharpness to the overall flavour which I quite enjoy since I have finally lost my sweet tooth.

I remember when gluten-free cake recipes meant flourless, grainy, or just plain sad.
Of course, there were some made with ground almonds that tasted great. But for the most part, it was slim pickings.

How To Live The Sweet Life Without Refined Sugar
What does it mean to eat a sugar-free, gluten-free diet? Being sugar free is a relatively new concept, and how the diet works in each persons life is unique.
There are natural sugars in fruits and vegetables, and our bodies actually need certain sugars to survive. However, eliminating or greatly reducing refined sugars can significantly benefit health and longevity.
Generally speaking, refined sugar includes processed white sugar made from sugarcane or sugar beets. It also includes brown sugar, which is white sugar coated with molasses. Because refined sugar is highly processed, our bodies absorb and process it almost immediately. When too much sugar is consumed, we experience a sugar high and soon after comes the blood sugar crash.
What To Eat On A No
On this no sugar challenge were gonna eat whole foods. Nobodys got time to read that many labels and I dont know about you, but my head doesnt have space for all the synonyms for sugar.
So will there be sausage? No. Will there be dressings? No . Will there be flavored yogurt? Niet. I mean are you surprised?
It took a while, but I made a grocery list for the no sugar challenge and you can download it here.
Is it going to be easy? Probably not, but it will feel good, Im telling you. I dont know how I would go an entire week without honey , but I actually want to extend this challenge to over 30 days. Thanks for coming to my TED talk, now lets take a look at the sample meal plan.

Gluten Free Strawberry Shortcake
Sometimes simple wins. Just choose some classic Smartcake® flavors like chocolate, cinnamon, and coconut. Cut each in half. Top with heavy whipping cream or coconut whipped cream. Drizzle some sugar free caramel and fudge syrup over it and slice some strawberries over the top of them. An under 150 calorie dessert that is too much for one person to finish. The only sugar is in the strawberries naturally. Photo provided by Lowcarbtraveler.

This Cake Is Allergy Friendly
As someone with a severe nut allergy, I can relate to how hard it is to find an allergy friendly dessert.
- No Gluten To make this cake gluten-free, I used a combination of coconut flour and tapioca starch as the base.
- No SugarLakanto monk fruit is a 1:1 white sugar replacement. It is zero calorie, zero glycemic, and is sweetened using erythritol and monk fruit extract, and NOT regular white sugar.
- No Nuts Many gluten free baking recipes use either cashews or almonds, but not this one! This recipe is totally nut free. Perfect for serving at kids parties. Gotta love that.
- Dairy Optional Sour cream, butter and whipping cream are used in this recipe. However, if you want to make a dairy-free option, substitute the sour cream with 1 cup full-fat canned coconut milk, 1/4 cup olive oil for the butter, and use my whipped coconut cream for the topping .

How To Tell When Flourless Chocolate Cake Is Done
Now, here is the critical part. The most important step in making the best flourless chocolate cake is not over or under baking it! You want the top to start to form a very thin crust, but it should be jiggly underneath.
Use a thermometer to get it just right. The keto flourless chocolate cake is done baking when the internal temperature measures 140 degrees Fahrenheit.

My four year old is allergic to soya/dairy/wheat and has a intolerance to black current. Is there any recipes you can send my way as the wheat allergy has only just been diagnosed and I am struggling with what I can make for her to eat without making her ill. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you
Hi, Daniel. That definitely sounds challenging. You can find gluten-free recipes on my blog by going to the menu bar, choosing Diet and choosing which tags to search. Can You Freeze The Cakes
Its really easy to freeze unfrosted cakes. Once your cakes are completely cool, wrap the cakes with plastic wrap , wrap again with aluminum foil, and then place in a plastic freezer bag.
The cakes can be frozen for up to 3 months. You can defrost the wrapped cake at room temperature for 2-3 hours or overnight in the refrigerator.
What Makes This Sugar Free Carrot Cake Recipe Healthy
This dreamy carrot cake has that moist, carroty, nutty flavor we ALL love but it also boasts a ton of healthy ingredients. There is no refined sugar used to sweeten this keto carrotcake, but instead uses erythritol which still brings that sweetness you need in a dessert. It also doesnt use any butter, but instead uses greek yogurt to bring on some healthy fats as well as protein! And while were on the topic of protein, this cake is also baked with a ton of eggs and uses chopped pecans as well which packs even more of a protein punch!

How Do You Make Sugar Free Cake From Scratch
Turn on the oven and allow it to preheat. Line 2 cake pans with parchment paper and set aside.
Place all of the dry ingredients other than the sweetener in a large bowl and stir with a whisk to combine. In a separate bowl, add the eggs, sweetener, greek yogurt and vanilla and stir well. Add the dry mixture to the wet and stir until everything is well incorporated.
Gently fold in the carrots, nuts and coconut flakes and stir until just combined. Let the batter sit for a little while so that the coconut flour can absorb the moisture.
Divide the batter between the cake pans and bake them until done! Cool completely, then frost the cake!
Here are a few ways to switch things up with this coconut flour carrot cake to suit your needs and preferences:
- Dairy Free: Use dairy free cream cheese and dairy free greek yogurt.
- Paleo: Use plant based yogurt instead of greek yogurt. Also, you may be able to use coconut sugar instead of erythritol but I have not personally tried this.
I Need Some More Sugar
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE some tried and tested sugar-free/gluten-free recipes would be sooooooo appreciated! Felicia
Jesse: Im actually staying with someone ~ attempting ~ a sugar-free diet right now, and we have been eating a lot of chicken. Some of it has been pretty sad and bland, but I am hoping to make this coconut-milk braised chicken this week! Its a pretty easy recipe that uses some pantry staples and its almost completely hands-off. Just make sure the coconut milk you use is unsweetened and the dish will be both gluten-free and sugar-free!
Arie: Have you been able to do any desserts, Jesse? What does that look like?
Jesse: Not yet, but I would go for something like fresh fruit with a dollop of unsweetened yogurt. Simple, yet still really lush.
Patty: If youre looking for a sweet treat that is sugar-free and gluten-free, nice creams are a great option. They do have natural sugars from the fruit but they skip the added sugars. Heres a strawberry version but weve also got a mango variety and the OG banana version too.
Arie: Lauren, as our resident gluten-free editor, do you have any favorite gluten-free recipes from the site right now that are low in sugar, too?
Arie: Great ideas, guys! Thanks!

Paleo Cookie Dough Bites
I earned about 4000 cool point from my kids with this recipe.
Im one of those moms. You know, the ones who dont give their kids processed food at snack time and cringe at the sight of fruit snacks, gogurt, and crackers.
So, imagine their surprise when I whipped up a batch of these and let them eat their hearts out. Coolest. Mom. Ever.
The best part?
Theyre actually very nutritious.
Remember my little Energy Balls? These are similar only the base is purely blanched almond flour instead of the almond-coconut-oatmeal mix. So theyre gluten , refined sugar, dairy, and egg free. Pretty neat, eh?
And being the cookie dough fanatic that I am, imagine my surprise that they actually taste like cookie dough. My dreams just came true.
Only to be dashed to pieces when I discovered my breastfed baby gets cranky and rashy when I eat a lot of nuts. Im SO glad I bought almond flour in bulk. Thank goodness for our extra freezer.
Speaking of my baby I tried to get some photos to show you the difference between almond meal and blanched almond flour.
Doing anything with a kicking baby strapped to your chest is tricky, but taking decent photos is especially hard.
Oh, those toes.
Can I steer the train off the tracks for a second and show you why Ive been so distracted lately?
All I want to do all day is stare at her. And mush on her. Shes so squishy and happy. Despite wanting to be held 75% of her waking time, I think well keep her.
So, ya. Almond flour.
