Noodles & Company History

The idea for Noodles & Company was conceived by Aaron Kennedy who was a former Pepsi marketing executive. He felt that were not enough noodle dishes restaurants, which is a staple for many international foods.

He managed to raise investment from his 24 friends and family members. The first Noodle & Company was opened in October 1995, in the Cherry Creek neighborhood of Denver, Colorado. The second location was opened in Madison, Wisconsin following March when Kennedy was joined by partner and real estate developer Tom Weigandwhom he had met at Augustana College.

In the first three months, the restaurant faced a huge loss and almost went out of business in 1996 due to the negative of a news reporter with the Wisconsin State Journal.

The management team went to Chicago in mid-1996 to observe other noodle restaurants. The night they returned, the Madison location basement was flooded. The next day Kennedy made the list of 15 areas of improvement. The revenue for the restaurant grew from 1996-2000.
