Gluten Free Brownie Mix Review
So what where our thoughts on the this gluten free brownie mix?
We really enjoyed it. The taste and texture were basically the same as what I remember a store bought brownie mix being like.
I think this is a brownie that you could feed anyone and they would not know that it was gluten free.
In fact, my teenage son, who does not have to eat gluten free, said it was one of the best brownies that he has had.
He loved the taste and texture. He would be happy if this was the only brownie I made. That is high praise from someone that doesnt have to eat gluten free.

Gluten free brownie mixes are easy to make. Most can be mixed up and in the oven in about 15 minutes. We made the brownies straight up as instructed on the packages, and we also tested them without dairy, without eggs and sometimes without both. Baked as instructed, these mixes made tasty treats. Without dairy and eggs, however, we had a mixed bagsome successes and many failures.

Reader Q& A
Q: What do you look for in a brownie mix?
Its less expensive to make from scratch than to buy the better mixes. The cheaper ones dont have the flavor and only make an 8×8-inch pan. Scratch is usually a 9×13-inch pan.
I like options of making dairy-free and egg-free.
thats easy to make.
dont require the addition of any weird ingredient. Eggs/ milk/ butter/ water are fine. Dont ask me to add an ingredient I dont readily have on hand.
Q: What is your favorite gluten-free brownie mix?
King Arthurs GF Brownie mix is so good my daughter will let me give it to her friends. It is rich, dark chocolate and not grainy.
1-2-3 Gluten Free mixes have the best chewy texture, are more moist and keep longer than all the others Ive tried.
Bobs Red Mill is the BEST!! Dark rich chocolate flavor, fudgy texture and not at all grainy. I add a few chocolate chips to the mix for extra gooeyness.
When I make brownies, I like to share them with my friends who are not gluten-free. They are the toughest critics. Pamelas has consistently fooled and pleased them all.
Sometimes its just easier with a mix especially if youre short on time or ingredients. We recommend storing a few of these brownie mixes in your pantry in case you need some last-minute sweet treats!

Is Butter Or Oil Better In Brownies
The King Arthur Gluten Free says that you can use either butter or oil.
In general butter will give you a more cake like brownie. Oil will give you a denser more fudgy brownie.
I have used both and my family usually prefers oil. For this gluten free brownie mix we like oil the best. It gives the gluten free brownie a delicious fudgy texture.

What About Egg
Replacing eggs in a packaged brownie mix can be tricky. Sadly, our testing confirmed that making good egg-free brownies from most mixes is disappointing. We made some mixes using conventional egg substitutes, like flax egg and packaged egg replacers. Some worked but many did not. One reader described her attempt as like tar. One of our editors said, I made brownie glue.
A few mixes called for more elaborate substitutes like tofu and sweet potato. In our testing, we generally avoided substitutes that might impact the flavor of the brownies.
