Does Ashers Chocolate Contain Gluten

In the early Chester Asher chocolate recipe after bags of sugar, it contained no wheat or gluten-free ingredients.

Our milk chocolate is made from chocolate, sugar, vanilla, milk, and cocoa butter.

Our dark chocolate is the same, except that it is made with a high cocoa content.

While Ashers is not making our old chocolate recipe with wheat or gluten-free ingredients, gluten CONTINUES in many of our delicious products, including all chocolate-covered pretzels and graham-covered crackers, among others.

We do our best to avoid contamination when we make our chocolates. Safe and secure however, we cannot guarantee it since they are made together in the same place.

The Top Gluten Free Chocolate Brands

As you browse the aisles of your local grocery store, you may find yourself wondering which chocolates are actually gluten free. Though it largely comes down to the ingredients, some candy manufacturers use the same equipment for all of their products which could lead to cross-contamination in chocolates that would otherwise be gluten free. Fortunately, there are plenty of dedicated gluten free brands out there that make delicious chocolates.

Heres an overview of some of the top gluten free chocolate brands on the market:

Though these chocolate makers offer gluten free products, there are some brands you want to avoid entirely. Ghiradelli, for example, may only offer one product that contains gluten , but all of their products are made on shared equipment. This increases the chances of cross-contamination. The same goes for Godiva, Lindt, and Vivani.

Whats The Difference Between Hot Cocoa And Hot Chocolate

I’m Italian and we only have one word to define this amazing beverage: cioccolata calda, literally ‘hot chocolate’ . So I thought hot cocoa and hot chocolate were synonyms.I just recently discovered that they are two different things:

  • Hot cocoa is made from milk, sugar and cocoa powder
  • Hot chocolate is made from melted chocolate and hot water, milk or cream TheKitchn says “the result is a rich, thick beverage that tends to be less sweet than hot cocoa, but more decadent. Sometimes it can be pudding-like”

So I guess my recipe is a combination of these two. It’s more a hot cocoa but with chocolate chunks in it and a thick consistency.

Can I Prepare This Hot Cocoa Mix In The Microwave

You can heat the milk in the microwave to make this hot chocolate the easy way. Just be the container you place it in is microwave-safe, and much larger than the amount of milk it contains since milk tends to bubble over in the microwave.

I wouldnt make the thicker variety of hot chocolate anywhere but the stovetop, since it is much more likely to clump in the microwave. You really need to whisk as it heats!

How Do You Garnish With White Chocolate

Amazing Gluten FREE Chocolate Cake!

You can use white chocolate as a garnish in a lot of different ways. Liquify white chocolate and use it as a drizzle or coat. Shave a white chocolate bar with a cheese grater. You can also garnish with white chocolate bars, lightly torched. The options for garnishing with white chocolate are endless.

Gluten Free Dairy Free Hot Chocolate

The traditional, dark chocolate variety of this hot chocolate recipe is easy to make dairy-free, too. Replace the powdered cows milk with powdered coconut milk, and the liquid cows milk with your favorite unsweetened nondairy milk. I like almond milk. And be sure your dark chocolate is dairy free, or just leave it out entirely!

The white hot chocolate variety is harder to make dairy-free. The powdered milk can be replaced with coconut milk, but the more mild flavor of the drink means you may taste some coconut flavor from the powdered milk.

The only good, dairy-free white chocolate Ive ever tried is the one Ive made myself. Try my recipe for vegan white chocolate, if youre feeling adventuresome!

Is All Chocolate Gluten Free

Yes, pure unsweetened chocolate is gluten free. Chocolate bars, however, contain multiple ingredients, and their ultimate gluten-free status will depend on those ingredients and how the manufacturing process was handled.

For example, some chocolate bars are gluten free down to 20 parts per million or even less, while others have no gluten ingredients but might be processed on equipment that also processes foods that contain gluten. Foods that are officially certified gluten free are typically 10 parts per million. And of course, some chocolate bars will contain gluten ingredients themselves, such as cookies, crackers, or malted rice.

    Gluten In Dark Chocolate

Dark chocolate is the purest form of chocolate, if we may say so. This is because it contains chocolate without any addition of milk or milk solids. It tastes bitter compared to its sweeter counterpart. The basic ingredients used in making this are cocoa beans, sugar, and an emulsifier. It is only the additives that decide whether the dark chocolate you are so fond of contains gluten or not.

So, what is stopping you now from melting into the rich taste of chocolate? The prime point to always remember is to check the ingredients labeled on the wrapper of the chocolates that you intend to buy, and always crosscheck the facts before consumption. And for those who are fortunate enough to consume gluten in all its forms, simply savor, for it too is necessary for a healthy diet and healthy living.

Learn Which Types Of Chocolate To Buy When You’re On The Gluten

    Verywell / Alexandra Shytsman

Pure, unsweetened chocolate is gluten-free. That’s because pure chocolate is made by liquefying roasted cacao beans. Glutena protein found in the grains wheat, barley, and ryeisn’t found in cacao beans and doesn’t play any role in the process of liquefying them.

However, almost every chocolate candy on the market contains multiple ingredients and is made alongside other products, and that’s where gluten can sneak in. You need to be particularly careful of:

    • Chocolate candy with cookie or pretzel ingredients. This type of candy almost always contains gluten since cookies and pretzels generally contain gluten.
    • “Crispy” chocolate candy, which often contains wheat flour and/or barley malt .
    • Chocolate candy made on equipment that’s also used to manufacture gluten-containing products.

Read on for more details on how chocolate is made and which types are gluten-free.

Parent Tips For A Happier Halloween

Your child may be disappointed that they cannot eat all the candies they gather while trick or treating. Therefore, it is important to take some time to talk to your child and manage their expectations this Halloween. Below are some strategies and tips for a successful gluten-free Halloween:

  • Chat Before Halloween. Take time to communicate to your child that they may not be able to keep all the candy they receive. This conversation will help manage their expectations at Halloween. During this time, please go through our gluten-free Halloween candy list with your child, and find their favourite allowed candies.
  • Household or Neighbourhood Candy Trade. This strategy involves your children trading gluten-free candies for gluten-containing ones. This option is ideal for families with multiple children, some of whom have celiac disease and some who do not. For example, your daughter with CD could trade her Kit Kat bar to your son without CD in exchange for one of his gluten-free candies, such as Reeses Peanut Butter Cups. Does your child want to trade candy, but there are not any children in your household without celiac disease? No problem expand the candy trade. See if any neighbourhood children would like to participate or perhaps some of your childs school friends are interested.
