How Do You Make Dairy Free Pancakes

Allergy Friendly Pancakes: Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free, Egg-Free

Weve used all different kinds of milk in the recipe coconut milk , almond milk, lactose free milk and regular milk and it turns out great every time.

Theyre the fluffiest with traditional milk, but they are still so fluffy and good no matter what we use. Use whatever you have on hand, and I promise it will still work. If you use flavored or sweetened nut milks, adjust the recipe accordingly.

Allergy Variations For Pancakes

Dairy Substitutions: For the butter, I suggest your favorite non-dairy butter. Mine is Earth Balance with no added soy. This melts wonderfully and has a great taste! For the milk, use your favorite non-dairy milk. Soy, rice, and oat all work fantastic in this recipe!

Egg Substitutions: There are a few different eggs you can try in this recipe! First is a flax or chia seed egg. Mix 1 tablespoon of flax seeds with 3 tablespoons of hot water. Stir and let rest for 5 minutes before adding to the batter. You can also whip ¼ cup aquafaba until it gets fluffy and fold into the pancake batter.

How Long Can I Store Gluten

This mix can be stored in an airtight container for up to three months at room temperature.

It may stay fresh longer, but I wouldn’t know because we usually griddle our way through a triple batch of this gluten-free pancake recipe every other week.

For store bought gluten-free pancake mixes, always check the expiration date printed on the box.

How To Make Gluten Free Pancakes

Always follow the recipe first when making easy gluten-free pancakes. Don’t work with substitutions until you know how the recipe works.

Once your batter is ready, heat your pan or electric griddle. I received an electric griddle last year and it’s been my best friend since.

  • Add all dry ingredient to a large mixing bowl.
  • Whisk until combine.
  • Add the wet ingredients.
  • Stir just until combined. Some lumps will remain.
  • Ladle ¼ cup of pancake batter onto your hot griddle, or pan: measure out about ¼ cup of gluten-free pancake batter onto your hot oil-pan or electric griddle. Use the back of the measuring cup to help spread the batter some.
  • Cook for 2-3 minutes, or until bubbles form around the edges. When the edges are golden brown and the bubbles are popping up through the center of the pancake, use your spatula and take a peak to see if they are brown to your liking. Then flip the gluten-free pancake and cook for another 5 minutes or so. Always check for doneness before you remove your pancake from the pan or griddle.
  • This gluten free pancakes recipe is super simple to make. If you find that your pancake batter is too thick to spread, most likely you added too much flour or your buttermilk was too thick.

Simply add water a tablespoon at a time until you get the desired consistency.

The Quest For The Best Gluten

    Gluten

This recipe began with one that I found on Food52 back in 2016 for extra-fluffy buttermilk pancakes. The trick, they said, was to separate the egg and stir in the egg white at the end. I was skeptical, but I swapped in gluten-free flours and took the recipe for a spin. I wasn’t sure the technique would work with gluten-free flours. But the resulting pancakes were DELICIOUS largely thanks to a whopping 10 tablespoons of butter!

I wiggled ingredients up and down to make the recipe work gluten-free as well as it could. Not that I have anything against butter, but even I couldn’t pour quite so much into breakfast, so I took the butter down by 40%. And when I was happy with the results, I tried a batch with and without the egg separated. Turns out I couldn’t detect a difference after all!

But these pancakes cook up thick and fluffy regardless. Their outsides are crisped in ghee, the centers are tender and delicate, and the salty/sweet levels make these gluten-free pancakes super flavorful.

Can You Make Pancakes Without Milk

I slightly adapted this recipe using oil because I didnt like melting butter, and eventually switching to dairy free milk and we never looked back. Why would we when it literally takes 2 extra minutes to measure out ingredients instead of paying for pricey pancake mix.

Maybe pancake mix isnt that pricey, but its still something I dont need to spend money on. Plus, I almost always have all of these ingredients in my pantry.

So anytime we want pancakes, I whip up a batch of this batter, and Marc mans the griddle. Hes really strangely good at making pancakes. I know Ive told you that before.

Days Of Gluten Dairy And Egg Free Comfort Food

Do you remember the days when it was easy to just walk into the kitchen and throw together a simple dinner or breakfast?

Do you remember the time before you had food allergies and intolerances in your familythe time when it was simple to plan meals and grocery shop?

Cooking seemed easier when you didnt have to consider each and every ingredient you put into your recipes. It used to be more fun. I believe that it can still be fun. I believe that you can enjoy amazing, easy recipes even when cooking for multiple food allergies.

Ive had to make many changes to my diet since Ive had children. My firstborn was and still is sensitive to gluten, so I was gluten free for several years. When my second son was born, he had issues with reflux, and that coupled with his laryngomalacia made me change my diet once again. I eliminated dairy, egg, soy, and corn in addition to gluten.

If you know what its like to be a nursing mother to a baby with reflux and food sensitivitiesif you know what its like to be a hungry nursing mother and have limited food choices because you are trying to keep your baby comfortable, these recipes are for you.

If you have little children with food allergies and sensitivities who want to eat fun kid foods like pizza and macaroni and cheesefoods that unless they are heavily modified, would not agree with their food restrictions, these recipes are for you.

How To Make Gluten Free Buttermilk Pancakes

In our recipe for gluten free buttermilk pancakes, there are no eggs or dairy, so we dont use real buttermilk. Instead, we create our own buttermilk using dairy free milk and apple cider vinegar. Pretty easy!

Here are the steps for making this recipe:

  • Preheat your griddle
  • Whisk together the dry ingredients in a batter bowl.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the dairy free milk, oil , and apple cider vinegar.
  • Whisk the liquid ingredients into the dry ingredients and cook on the griddle.
  • Serve with your favorite dairy free butter and pure maple syrup!
  • Youll want to make sure that you use a gluten free flour blend for this recipe that has xanthan gum in it or some other kind of binder. This allows you to use just the flour blend without eggs and it will still hold together well.

If you want to make pancakes without xanthan gum or a gluten free flour blend, then check out my other pancake recipes that dont use gluten free flour blends.

Since gluten free flour blends have starches and binders in them, this recipe wont convert well to just plain brown rice flour or sorghum flour. So youll want to look for a recipe specifically made with one of those flours, like our gluten free overnight pancakes or our Apple Cider pancakes.

For these gluten free pancakes , we used the gluten free flour blend from King Arthur Flour. This works great! Make sure that you dont add too much more salt to your batter since it already has salt and baking soda in the KAF gluten free flour blend.

    How To Make Pancakes Low

A combination of almond flour, tapioca and flaxseed are used as the flour here to replace white flour.

Its best not to rely on any one flour in gluten-free cooking. A variety of different dry ingredients helps the texture immensely.

I know some that follow low-carb or keto may be hesitant to use tapioca flour since its a little higher in carbs, but it really helps these taste lighter, fluffier and more like conventional pancakes.

I only used 4 Tbs tapioca flour in the whole recipe, instead of 12 like other recipes, so the carbs are much lower.

If youre absolutely against tapioca, you may sub more almond flour, or another nut/seed flour just keep in mind, the texture will be heavier.

On the flip side, if youre fine with tapioca and want to make these even FLUFFIER, go ahead and replace the flax with more tapioca

Back when I started experimenting with turning my favourite recipes into plant-based and/or gluten free versions, this recipe for easy vegan gluten free pancakes was one of the first I came up with.

Come to think of it, it may have actually been the first!

This was quite a few years ago and since then, the recipe has not changed at all. I make these pancakes often and they have become one of the most requested things to eat here at breakfast

I took these shots almost 4-months ago but held on to them. If you follow me on Instagram, you would have seen a sneak peek.

I held on to the shots because I thought, hmmthis is *just* a pancake recipe. Does the internet really need another pancake recipe? And the answer is YES. It does.Because these easy vegan gluten free pancakes are special.

Theyre special because they are everything you would expect a pancake to be, but maybe NOT what you would expect a vegan AND gluten free pancake to be. They are light, fluffy, and theyre delicious.

Then, that waffle recipe served as the base for all my other waffle recipes. Funny how developing recipes work!

Now, on to my next creation

What Does Each Ingredient Do In Pancakes

Egg Free Fluffy Pancakes (Dairy Free / Vegan)

In gluten free, top 8 allergy free pancakes, your essential ingredients are the gluten free flour blend, rising agent, liquid ingredient, and egg substitute. The gluten free flour blend is the foundation for flavor, texture, and density. Your liquid ingredient is what creates the batter and allows it to flow and cook. You dont have to stick to milk only in pancakes.

Your egg free substitute need to lift, moisten, and bind. The last bit is very important if you dont want crumbly pancakes. Finally, your leavening agent is going to bring the lift that makes these pancakes incredibly fluffy.

Youll Never Buy Pancake Mix Again

Six years ago, before we ever moved to France, I had never made pancakes for myself. Not once. I never even considered it. It was something I could get at any restaurant that served breakfast, and I never really liked breakfast that much.

But, somehow, when you cant have something, you want it even more. So of course, when we were faced with spending several euros for the smallest box of sub-par pancake mix or making some from scratch, I figured it out.
