What Do They Taste Like

PEANUT BUTTER GRANOLA BARS | A Healthy, Gluten-Free Vegan Snack Recipe

These bars are not your traditional crispy granola bar. The texture is soft + chewy with just the right amount of sweetness. The flavor depends on the nut or seed butter you use and also the add-ins you choose.

We like them best cold out of the freezer, but they can absolutely be packed in a school lunch box. The texture will just be a bit softer.

My Favorite Homemade Granola Bars Recipe

Sometimes you really just need a snack that gives you some power to manage the day. So its very useful to have a simple granola bar recipe on hand thats perfect to make ahead and store in the fridge to enjoy in those situations.

Unlike most store-bought granola bars, my homemade bars are gluten-free, vegan, and made with wholesome ingredients. They are rich in nutrients, vitamins, healthy fats, and are naturally sweetened. Plus they are incredibly delicious and even kids love them so they are the perfect snack for the whole family!

What I also love about this simple crunchy and chewy granola bar recipe is that it can be adapted based on your favorite dried fruits, nuts, seeds, or even chocolate. So you can basically add whatever you like or have on hand!

Safe + Fair Blueberry Cinnamon Granola

Ingredients: Oats, brown rice syrup, cane sugar, sunflower oil, dried blueberries, brown rice, millet, cinnamon, sea salt.

Safe + Fair commendably excludes eight of the top allergens from its granola recipe. While this nut-free, vegan pick doesn’t serve up a high calorie count, it’s too high in sugarwith brown rice syrup and cane sugar listed as the second and third ingredients. Thankfully, it sneaks in some warm cinnamon, which helps stabilize your blood sugar.

Homemade Chewy Granola Bars are a cinch to make from pantry staples. Gluten free and kid friendly, they’re a great, low-sugar snack option!

I know a lot of people believe in signs from passed loved ones, myself included. While some may think its woo woo, I dont think its a coincidence that since we returned from my Grandmas services, Ive been feeling semi-stalked by cardinals.

I kid you not, every. single. time. I look out a window to the backyard, a cardinal lands in my direct view. Not off to the side, not high up in a tree straight within my line of vision. Its crazy! My Grandma loved birds, and I have a special, Grandma-related project in the works back there, so I like to think its her checking in and saying hello. Even if its not, the sightings are a great reminder of her wonderful spirit. 🙂

Hey, maybe the cardinals have just been trying to sneak a peek at my latest recipe that resembles bird food Homemade Chewy Granola Bars! Ummmget your snackatite ready because these low sugar, nutrient dense, absolutely YUMMY granola bars are off the chain!

Delicious Healthy Grain Free Granola Bars

These grain-free granola bars are a guilt-free snack idea for both you and your kids. Ditch the chemical and sugar loaded store-bought granola bars and check out how easy it is to make your own tasty granola bars!

My fondest childhood memories take place in the kitchen. Whether it was helping my mom stir the broth into the cornbread dressing for Thanksgiving, melting chocolate for Christmas candies, or making jelly with our summertime haul of blackberries, I was always in the kitchen with the adults, learning and experimenting.

Amidst the laughter, the mess, the cramped kitchens, and the mouthwatering smells that filled the room, I found my home.

A lot of my feelings towards the kitchen changed, however, when I was told I needed to eat a gluten-free diet. Suddenly, I was in a new world with a strange new language and I did the easiest thing I could.

I stopped cooking and just grabbed the pre-made gluten-free items. I didnt even want to think about cooking with so many odd flours and grain-free substitutes. With one diagnosis, I allowed my joy of cooking to be taken away.

Jessica’s Natural Foods Vanilla Maple Granola

Ingredients: Certified gluten-free rolled oats, organic honey, brown sugar, expeller pressed sunflower oil, ground flax seed, coconut, water, maple syrup, pure vanilla extract, sea salt, cinnamon, tocopherols .

Make sure to not exceed one serving on the regular because the sugar content in here will add up. There is a notable aspect to this granola, however, that gives it a higher rankingand that’s ground flaxseed. “Flaxseeds are a great addition to granolas, but they do need to be ground for our body to absorb the beneficial nutrients,” , RDN, LD, tells us.

“It does take some effort to grind them up, which is why people turn to pre-ground flaxseeds. Unfortunately, pre-ground flaxseeds are exposed to oxygen. Over time this exposure causes nutrients, such as polyunsaturated fats, to break down. Food preservation and packaging can slow the oxidation down, so you are still getting similar protein, fiber, total fat, vitamins, and minerals,” she explains. If you are looking for granola with flaxseeds, Bruns suggests looking for packaging that limits exposure to light and oxygen to gain the most benefit. “Keep the granola stored in the refrigerator to ensure the flaxseeds maintain freshness and do not go rancid.”

Healthy Chewy Granola Bars

January 14, 2016

Gluten-free Healthy Chewy Granola Bars chocked full of oats, sunflower seeds, cranberries, flax seed, and chocolate chips, sweetened with honey!

I know that the arrival of January always brings that big push to get organized, start new routines, and eat healthier foods. None of that is really something I pay much mind to, really.

I try to stay consistent in the healthy eating department, and the thought of placing those other two things on myself at the beginning of a new year seems overwhelming and a lot of unnecessary pressure.

I did, though, recently have to start going through the contents of all my childhood belongings and keepsakes, as my parents won’t be able to store them anymore.

Talk about overwhelming.

My pre-digital camera childhood has been boxed up with pictures and negatives neatly in their jackets, bead necklaces, medals, diaries, and a couple of old teeth. .

I had forgotten how easy smart phones and “the cloud” have made it to save and catalogue special memories and moments.

Faced staring at box mountain the other day, I suddenly felt at a loss on what to put in the keep pile and what should finally, finally be discarded.

How do you even begin to decide which memories stay in your possession and which ones go?

While I’m still figuring out the answer to that question, let’s move on to something much simpler.

Sweetened with honey , you’ve got yourself one wholesome little treat.

A very tasty lifesaver.

    Refined Sugar Free Sweeteners

Making these homemade granola bars without honey was easy, thanks to pure maple syrup.

Using pure maple syrup helped hold the bars together, provided ample sweetness and also left a light maple flavor.

Other refined sugar free sweeteners which work include brown rice syrup and agave nectar. Be wary if you use agave nectar, as it is a little weak, and may need a tablespoon or two more to hold together.

    Are Rice Krispies Gluten Free

No, Kelloggs brand rice krispies are not gluten free because they have malt which contains gluten. I still call them rice krispies in the recipe for those that dont need it to be gluten free, and because that is the general term by which people know this type of cereal by. I purchase the Malt-O-Meal Crispy Rice which is gluten free. Its also perfect in my allergy-friendly rice krispies!

Why Homemade Grain Free Granola Bars

Most store-bought granola bars contain chemicals and additives that I am just not comfortable giving to my daughter. However, when I make my own, I can control what goes into her body and honestly, these couldnt be easier.

All you need ffor these grain free granola bars is coconut oil, honey, your choice of nuts, fruits, and nut butter and whatever else you want to throw into your bars. You can mix up the ingredients in under 10 minutes. Its super easy and lots of creative fun!

    Homemade Granola Bar Tips

Dont forget to chill. These bars need time to set up in the fridge so dont cut them right away. Give them a good hour or even overnight before slicing and eating the bars.

Store them in the fridge. Speaking of keeping things cool, youll want to store these in the fridge in a container for about a week. You can freeze them, just wrap them in a bit of wax or parchment paper before storing in the freezer. And make sure to let them thaw in the fridge or countertop before eating. Dont chip a tooth over these frozen granola bars.
