Anyway, Ill tell you my story. I think you will be able to relate in one way or another.

    MY STORY

As many of you know, I contracted a wicked parasite in Africa, back in 2006. It made me pretty sick for years and ruined my gut. Of course, I didnt know that was the cause.

Add stress and overtraining to the mix and things just got worse. Then I had to have reconstructive colon surgery.

All this to say, when youre gut has been through that much trauma, it needs a lot of love. It needs:

    • a reboot of good bacteria
    • protection
    • reduction of inflammation

Heres the thing. I will ALWAYS need to to work on my gut health due to this nature. I wish I could say I never stress and I have perfect health. But no, it isnt perfect because Im human.

The key is to work on one area at a time to tackle any unwanted continual flare ups.

    Prepare Ingredients For Room Temperature

Meal Prep With Me Low FODMAP, gluten free, dairy free recipes | Becky Excell

This low FODMAP cornbread recipe bakes the best and most evenly when all of the ingredients are at room temperature. What I typically do is set out all of the things that need to warm up the milk, lemon juice, and milk before I start cooking the main course .

Then, while Im getting the chili in the pot, the low FODMAP cornbread ingredients are warming up and are ready by the time Im done with the chili. While chili is cooking in the Instant Pot, Im mixing together and baking the cornbread. Both are done at pretty much the same time, just like they were meant to be made together.

The ghee or butter should be melted in the microwave in a microwave safe bowl or measuring cup and cooled to just above room temperature. At room temperature, it will resolidify.

Before I Share The Gluten Free Low Fodmap Thanksgiving Recipes With You I Wanted To Take A Moment To Share A Few Tips From My Low Fodmap Blogger Friends About Surviving The Holiday Season With Food Intolerances

If youre going to someone elses place for the holidays, the first thing you should do when you arrive is check out the foods that are on offer. Then you can ask questions about the food before its time to eat. This is a great strategy if you get embarrassed about asking questions in front of everyone else, since youll already have everything worked out before you sit down to eat.

When in doubt for your low-FODMAP Thanksgiving, make your own dish or just stick to healthy portions of turkey, low-FODMAP vegetables, and a gluten-free dessert. Limit the amount of sugars you have and watch your portions and how many different foods you have. Thanksgiving in the past for me was always a time where I would spend days after not feeling well, not only because of the FODMAPs I was unaware of, but also from trying too many different foods and whats so fun about feeling crappy afterward!

    Chop Corn Off The Cob

Once the corn has had a chance to cool for a few minutes, I chop the corn kernels off the cob. I do this without burning myself by using a folded up paper towel to hold the tip of the cob of corn on top of a plate with rounded edges and chop everything off underneath, being careful not to get too close to the cob. I then flip the cob over and chop off the corn that was underneath the paper towel.

To keep the quantity of corn at a low FODMAP serving, I separate the corn into four, 38 gram servings. I suggest using a kitchen scale to do this or being mindful when you’re cutting the corn off the cob how much is coming off ½ of a cob.

3 Quick & Easy Vegan, Gluten free & Low FODMAP Snack Recipes

Anyone who has been on the low FODMAP diet knows that it is one of the harder sets of hodgepodge rules to follow. And when so many healthy vegetables, grains and legumes are off limits, one downside is that it can end up pointing you towards putting more meat on your plate. Vegetarian low FODMAP recipes are much harder to find, simply because adding that second restriction to the pile leaves much less to play around with.

That said, Im fully a believer that healing the gut and supporting our microbiome for the long-term are both strategies that skew towards a plant-based lifestyle over one that is full of animal protein. Getting there can be trickier, especially if youre dealing with an acute issue like SIBO. But one way to bridge the gap is to incorporate more vegetarian low FODMAP recipes into your rotation.

When I recently asked you guys for recipe requests on Instagram, I couldnt believe how many people asked for vegetarian or vegan SIBO recipes. There is of course no one diet for SIBO, but many people go the low FODMAP route. Others omit on even more allergens, like all dairy, gluten, corn and soy. If you fall in the all of the above camp, or are following a practitioner diet like the SIBO Specific Food Guide or Bi-Phasic Diet, Id recommend picking up a copy of SIBO Made Simple.

    Chop The Raw Vegetables

I use the following vegetables in the base of this detox salad:

    • Green leaf or romaine lettuce, chopped
    • Cucumber, chopped into small, ¼ inch sized cubes
    • Red bell pepper, chopped into cubes
    • Orange bell pepper, chopped into cubes – please note that orange bell pepper has not yet been tested for FODMAPs. If you’re not sure if you tolerate them, I suggest using two red bell peppers instead of one red and one orange, just to be safe.

I chop the vegetables and place them in a large bowl, tossing them with my hands or tongs to combine.

Can You Eat Bread On The Low Fodmap Diet

Some bread is low FODMAP, it all depends on the ingredients and process used.

Bread made with wheat flour is not low FODMAP as wheat contains fructans which are a type of FODMAP. The good news is that you can still have small amounts of FODMAPs on the diet, Monash advise a fodmap serving size of up to 1 and a half slices of wheat bread is allowed.

Sourdough bread is a great example of a bread that may or may not be low FODMAP depending on both the ingredients and process. Traditional sourdough bread is low FODMAP because it is made with spelt flour and fermented in the process. However, if the bread is not fermented for very long or uses a different type of flour, then it may not be low FODMAP.
