Is Queso Gluten Free
Did someone say Queso? Youre probably thinking about a delicious dip thats made of cheese and cream and flavored with peppers and tasty spices and aromatics. Heres a little fact about your delightful food fantasy: this dip is called Chile Con Queso, and its a Mexican side for tortillas.
But when a Spanish friend mentions Queso, they probably mean cheese. Chile con Queso, commonly called Queso, is a cheese dip that we all love. Whether youre having tortilla chips or potato chips, Queso seems like the perfect addition. But its thick texture and flavors beg one question: is Queso gluten free?
The primary ingredient in Queso is cheese. Often, a variety of cheeses go into the Queso blend. These include Velveeta, Monterey Jack, cream cheese, processed cheese, or more. No wonder it has such a thick, creamy consistency! So, it is safe to say that the base of Queso is gluten free and safe.
Cooks add cream to their Queso dipping sauce recipes for an improved texture. Others use thickeners like corn starch. If the thickener or texturizer is free from gluten, the sauces gluten status wont change. Check if the Queso youre about to have contained wheat, barley, rye, or any other gluten derivative.
Queso has a beautiful hit of spiciness because it contains chili peppers. Also, it may include pico de gallo, a Mexican salsa. Some recipes also call for guacamole, black beans, and animal proteins like corned beef and pork. Packaged Queso may contain additional flavoring agents.

Brands Of Salsa Gluten
Salsa is often gluten-free. However, this is not always the case. If you are highly gluten sensitive, keep in mind that certain salsas utilize white vinegar, which can be produced from wheat and contain trace levels of gluten.
Otherwise, while it is uncommon for salsa brands to have an evident gluten element , cross-contamination can introduce gluten through shared equipment. As a result, we must advise you to read the ingredient label carefully to be certain.
Do you need assistance knowing what to look for on those labels? We have a guide have a look! Make sure to read the labels and call the company to verify if in doubt.
Personally, I love to make my own salsa, and rarely do I buy storebought. Check out these homemade salsa recipes:

Notes On Ingredients For These Gluten
- Chips: I used Tostitos scoops. Keep in mind that theres always a number of broken ones in the bag, so if you want a full tray to bring to a party, pick up two bags so youll have enough intact scoop chips to use.
- Guacamole. I used my homemade gluten-free guacamole because it is so easy and so flavorful. You could also use store bought guacamole that is gluten-free. Just be sure your guacamole has a good amount of lemon or lime juice so that it doesnt turn an unappealing brown color as it sits out at the party. Also, if you use another homemade recipe, make sure it isnt too wet. Mine is not too wet, and my chips dont get soggy quickly.
- Cherry or grape tomatoes are perfect to give you firm, small slices for these.
- Cilantro a little goes a long way for flavor! I only put a little bit of cilantro on each chip, but if you really want the cilantro to pop, then feel free to add more.
- Cheese Including cheese is totally optional. Feel free to use your favorite, Ive used shredded Cheddars and also the shredded cheese labeled Mexican 4 cheese. You could also use dairy-free cheese in these.
Thats it! Only 4 ingredients 5 if you add cheese!

After that, spoon in the mango salsa. I only added a little bit of the mango salsa in each, as to not crowd the chips too much.
After, of course, the last step is to add the cut up shrimp!

What Exactly Is Salsa
Salsa is a common ingredient in Mexican dishes, and to be honest, this one is extremely popular. Its delectable flavor and distinct perfume make it even more appealing. It is a sauce, or a group of sauces served as a condiment or side dish with a range of Mexican cuisine. For example, the combination of tacos with Salsa is divine and unrivaled!
Salsa might be cooked. It can also be served uncooked. In general, people like it at room temperature! In Spanish, the word salsa implies sauce. However, the English translation always refers to the fiery Mexican dish.
Salsa was originally popularized as a table dip by Mexican food plazas or restaurants in America in the 1980s. The tomato salsa was well-known at the time. However, some salsa enthusiasts did not believe that the jarred items delivered a strong flavor. But, once again, the longer shelf life piqued peoples attention.

What Are Tortilla Chips Made Of
Tortilla chips in their most simple form are made from corn tortillas, cut into triangles, circles, or strips, then fried in oil or baked.
Corn tortillas are made out of corn kernels, a limewater-cured maize which allows the skin of the corn kernels to come off. This corn is ground, other ingredients are added, then rolled into a ball. Then it is flattened and cooked.
Corn tortillas can be made using traditionally yellow corn white corn or even blue corn.
Some tortilla chip brands may use additional ingredients in their chips to make them a little different than the standard corn tortilla chips youre used to.
For example, you can find ingredients like chickpea, cassava, amaranth, teff, lentil, coconut, and sweet potato flour in some tortilla chips.
All of these ingredients are gluten-free, but that doesnt mean that all flavors and varieties of tortilla chips are.
Flavored tortilla chips, meaning any chips with anything other than corn, oil, and salt in them will need a second look at the ingredients to ensure there isnt any hidden gluten in the product.
