What You Wont Need For This Dairy Free Gluten Free Cake

Gluten, Egg & Dairy-Free Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Frosting!

Most dairy free baked goods, like DF cakes, use lots of dairy alternatives. This cake is unique, since it doesnt require any of the usual dairy-free substitutes. So heres a list of all the ingredients you wont need to make this moist, tender, dairy free chocolate cake:

  • almond milk, coconut milk, or other dairy free milk, in place of cows milk
  • coconut oil, as a butter alternative
  • dairy free butter, like vegan butter

How To Make This Dairy Free Or Vegan

This can easily be made dairy free or vegan with a few substitutions!

  • Substitute 1 egg with 1/4 cup of unsweetened applesauce.
  • Replace the milk with a milk substitute, like unsweetened almond milk .
  • Replace the butter with vegan or dairy free butter or vegetable oil .
  • For the cinnamon streusel topping, use a few tablespoons of vegan butter or add vegetable oil until just wet.

How To Make A Gluten

  • Add sugar, flour, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt to a large mixing bowl.
  • Mix until combined and no lumps of cocoa remain.
  • Add the eggs, sour cream, oil and vanilla.
  • Beat on medium speed for 1-2 minutes. Add hot water and stir until combined. If desired, stir in chocolate chips.
  • Poor into a non-stick bundt cake pan. Tap sides to help it settle.
  • Bake as directed. Allow to cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then loosen the sides of the cake with a rubber spatula. Invert the cake on a cooling rack and allow it to settle onto the cooling rack. You can frost this gluten-free chocolate bundt cake, drizzle it with melted chocolate, or enjoy it as-is.
  • These numbered steps match the numbered photos above and are for illustration purposes only. Please see the printable recipe card below.

My family devoured this gluten-free bundt cake. Well, at least they tried to. I did end up giving about half of it away to friends .

With the amount of baking and recipe development that I do, it’s in our best health to share.

How Do You Make Gluten Free Dairy Free Chocolate Cake

We start this cake by FIRST preparing the pan.

This cake gets baked in a water bath just like a cheesecake, so we need to prep the pan.

Youll want to use a 9 springform pan wrapped in foil and lined with liberally greased parchment paper. You can skip the foil wrap if you follow my pan prep for my cheesecake, but the foil route works just fine here.

That wrapped pan will go in a larger pan, which youll fill with water before baking. Set all the pans aside for now.

Youll melt the chocolate and butter together first to make the base, and then well do all the magic with the eggs.

How To Store This Vegan Gluten Free Chocolate Cake Recipe

    Vegan Gluten

To store after frosting: store your cake in an airtight container like this one for 1-3 days, in a cool environment. Keep out of direct sunlight and way from heat sources.

To store before frosting: you may freeze the cake and frost before serving . Wrap cake layers in parchment paper or plastic wrap and store in an airtight, freezer-friendly container. Do not make frosting until you are ready to whip and frost the vegan chocolate cake.

How To Make A Gluten Free Peach Dump Cake

To make this easy peach dump cake, first you will preheat the oven to 350F and grease a baking pan with cooking spray.

Next youll combine your peaches, sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, and cinnamon in one of the mixing bowls and pour it into your prepared baking pan.

In the other bowl, youll measure out your cake mix and combine it with the cinnamon.

Sprinkle this mixture over your peach mixture and spread out until fairly even.

Next, thinly slice your butter sticks and space the squares evenly over the top of the cake mix.

Bake for 20 minutes. Rotate the pan and look for dry spots on top.

If any spots seem dry, add a bit more butter to those spots.

Cook for another 20-25 minutes until golden. Let cool before serving.

Do You Need Special Equipment To Make This Simple Gluten

The short answer is no. You could make this cake with just a bowl, a whisk, some elbow grease and some round cake tins. And of course an oven.

I personally prefer making cakes the easy way with a bit of equipment. I always used to make cakes with a handheld electric whisk like this one.

However, I was gifted a Sage stand mixer a few years ago and have never looked back. Its a brilliant machine with various attachments for whisking, beating and more. It makes light work of cake making and it means you can get on with tidying up while it does the job of mixing.

Since this simple gluten-free cake is a one-bowl recipe, you just load the ingredients into the bowl and set it beating with the K beater attachment.

The best thing about this machine is that the beater has a scraper edge to it meaning you dont have to stop so often to scrape the mixture off the sides of the bowl.

Once the mixture has combined its a simple case of dividing it between two 18cm cake tins and putting them in the oven.

How To Replace Cornstarch In This Dairy Free Gluten Free Chocolate Cake

Cornstarch is used in this recipe to tenderize the cake by increasing the starch component thats already in your all purpose gluten free flour. This assumes that youre not already using a higher-starch blend, like Cup4Cup.

If youre already using a higher starch blend, use more of that blend in place of the cornstarch. If youre not, but you need to avoid corn, you can use arrowroot, or even potato starch, in its place.

It’s my birthday! Every year growing up and until I had to gluten free, I always wanted a cookie cake from the Great American Cookie Company. I remember as a kid, whenever my mom and I were at the mall, I would always ask for money to get one of the double doozy sandwich cookies. Something about the icing combined with a yummy chocolate chip cookie were just divine. I’ve had all manner of cookie cakes over the years – homemade, giant and even single serving size. But I’ve never had a gluten free cookie cake until now.

To Flour Pans With Cocoa Powder

Double Chocolate Cake (Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Egg Free)
    • Use a sifter to evenly drop cocoa powder over pan
    • Then, tap the pan around to get the cocoa powder to spread.
    • For the sides, you have to aggressively tap and hold the pan on its side, getting the cocoa powder to fall down onto the opposite side. Rotate as you tap so the cocoa powder will fall and coat more and more of the side of the cake pan.

    Can I Freeze Gluten

Yes, you can freeze gluten-free carrot cake. For best results, wrap each of the cake layers in cling wrap and store them in the freezer for up to 6 months. When you’re ready to frost the cake, let the cake layers come to room temperature, so they can absorb some of the moisture from the air before frosting.

    Why Did My Gluten

There are several reason why cakes sink, one is from over beating the batter and adding too much air. Also, cakes often will sink when there is too much moisture.

This is more common in humid climates where added moisture can collect naturally in ingredients such as flour.

When this occurs, cupcakes may rise rapidly and then fall during baking.

In higher elevations, the leavening agent works twice as hard and may cause the batter to rise rapidly and sink before itâs had a chance to set up.

All these tips are relevant to most cake and cupcake recipes, not just this Gluten-Free Chocolate Cake.

    • Once your cake is in the oven, begin preparing the German coconut pecan frosting.
    • In a medium saucepan add brown sugar, granulated sugar, butter, egg yolks, and evaporated milk. Stir to combine and bring the mixture to a low boil over medium heat. Stir constantly for several minutes until the mixture begins to thicken.
    • Remove from heat and stir in vanilla, nuts and coconut. Allow to cool completely before spreading over cake.

Divide this glorious gluten-free vanilla cake batter between the four prepared six-inch round cake pans and bake for approximately 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Other signs of a cake being fully baked are golden edges that pull ever so slightly away from the cake pan. When you remove the cake pans from the oven place them on a cooling rack to cool for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes invert the pans on the rack and allow the cake layers to fully cool.

    Can I Freeze Your Gluten

Of course! Ive frozen it for up to 2-3 months no problem. Ideally, slice up the cake first before freezing that way you can simply defrost slices as and when you need them.

Plus, itll thaw a lot quicker. When you want to eat it, each slice should take around 4 hours to defrost at room temperature.

How To Frost Your Gf Df Cake

I include a dairy-free ganache frosting recipe, including instructions on how to make it into a whipped ganache frosting for this cake. Its super decadent, and not overly sweet, as the only sugar in the frosting comes from the chocolate.

You can also use your favorite dairy free buttercream frosting, or serve this cake without any frosting at all. A light dusting of confectioners sugar on a completely cooled cake would make a nice touch.
