Supplies For Packing Gluten

I do NOT recommend:

  • expensive bento boxes theyre usually too small for anyone older than toddlers and way too pricey especially if you have multiple kids as I do
  • cheaper plastic bento storage boxes Ive purchased at least 4 different versions and they all leak with the lids not snapping on or breaking after a couple weeks of use. They may be cheaper but its still a waste of money.

I DO recommend these back to school lunch supplies:

  • quality lunch bag
  • for preschoolers-elementary age, we love Lands End lunchboxes and this style from
  • for tweens-high school, my daughter loves this style while my high school son prefers this larger lunchbag.
  • generic plastic sandwich bags or reusable storage zippered bags
  • reusable cutlery
  • water bottle there are tons of options now so youll want to see what works best for your child, but weve had good luck with these styles:
  • leak-proof BPA-free 16oz bottle great for younger-elementary kids
  • nalgene 12 oz bottles harder to close for younger children, but have worked well for my kids 7+
  • 18oz Pogo were trying these this year, so far theyve been great
  • What are your favorite gluten-free lunch ideas for kids?

    62 Gluten

Explaining coeliac disease to children must be tough for parents. I think I was lucky that I was pretty much a teenager when I was diagnosed so I could understand it a little better.

But I imagine it must be so difficult as a child to understand why your friends are eating foods you can’t.

Which is why I wanted to make these gluten free lunchbox ideas super fun! Just because you have coeliac disease or are gluten free, it doesn’t mean you should miss out on fun and creative lunch ideas!

If you want to get your hands on some Juvela bread, you can buy the Fresh White Loaf in Tesco.

Only some NHS Trusts offer gluten free bread on prescription but you can check availability in your area here.

    Beef & Red Wine Casserole

Cold days call for a hearty stew thats easy to make, comforting, and delicious.

In this case, the beautiful rich taste from the red wine sauce perfectly melds with the juicy beef.

While its delicious on its own, you can serve this with mashed potatoes or fresh veggies for an even more filling meal.

Its easy to get stuck in a rut with meals during the week, especially if youre trying to stick to healthy eating.

My solution? This gluten-free pasta with chicken and roasted pepper sauce.

The sauce is a simple blend of roasted red peppers, fresh herbs, and cream cheese.

But the result is a rich, creamy sauce that makes for an incredible pasta dish.

There are lots of ways to make quesadillas, but I think my favorite is this one: super simple yet satisfying!

This gluten-free quesadilla recipe combines the creaminess of avocado with plenty of cheesy goodness.

Serve these fresh from the pan with your favorite dip or pair them with freshly chopped tomatoes.

What Should You Pack Your Lunch In

I have been using the same lunchboxes since my kids started school YEARS ago, really even when they were in preschool. We use PackIt Freezable Lunch Bags.

These are hands down the BEST. They freeze in the freezer, then when you are ready to fill them, they stay cold all day long. We use them for trips and going to the park, basically anytime we need lunch.

I usually buy a new one each year just because my kids wear them down throughout the year, but you can easily use them for multiple years. They come in a wide variety. So if you need a new lunchbox, I highly recommend those.

Now, are you ready to make lunch? Lets make this a great year!

    Balancing That School Lunch

Getting good nutrition from each meal is key, especially when eating gluten-free. Avoiding gluten-containing foods may mean that important nutrients are missed. Heres how you can help your child get the right balance of nutrients without sacrificing great taste.

Below are just a few of the many options from each food group to get you started. Include your favorites but also explore other options. Introduce your child to different types of beans, nuts, as well as fruits and vegetables.

Try including at least one food from each of the following groups. Choose different foods within each group throughout the week to get different nutrients.

  • Protein Meat , deli meat, tuna, hard-boiled eggs, cheese slices or yogurt, nut or seed butter , beans .

  • -Include an ice pack in your childs lunch to keep perishable items safe.

  • Gluten-Free Grains Bread, crackers, tortillas, wraps, pasta, rice. Try to make about half the grain items whole grain versions when you can, since they usually have more fiber, vitamins, and minerals.

  • Vegetables When it comes to vegetables, the more the better! Most of us dont eat enough vegetables, and they are loaded with important nutrients. Dont stop at just one choice in this group. Include vegetables in sandwiches by adding lettuce, sliced cucumber, or shredded carrot. Add veggies to favorite soups, pasta dishes, and casseroles. Dont forget raw veggie sticks, too!

  • What Do You Need For These Back To School Lunch Ideas

While these ideas may look difficult, they arentat all! Ive broken these up into different boxes in the recipe cards so that you can see them all individually.

What do they all have in common?

    Its simplecookie cutters!

Did you know that you can take your lunches to a whole new level with some simple cookie cutters? The cheese and sandwiches are all cut using cookie cutters, it adds some fun shapes and something exciting to your childs lunchbox!

Even my middle schooler loves this, even though hed never actually admit that!

Its also a great mix of nutrients in each of these as well, the key is to keep them very colorful lots of fruits and veggies along with a sweet treat like some yogurt-covered pretzels or a trail mix.

We also enjoy adding some dried fruit to ours as well.
