Entermy beloved halogen oven. I know so many people who own one. If you dont, go get one now! Seriously, it sounds like a sales pitch but it truly is a handy machine to have in your kitchen. And yes, I am in love with my halogen oven. You might not think you need one, but I promise you that once you start using it, youll wonder how you ever managed without.

I use it for loads of things, especially for cooking foods that would splatter on the hob, like pan-fried fish or meat. Its nothing like a microwave. Food cooks quickly and isnt soggy. Bacon crisps up to perfection. No pre-heating like you would have to do with a traditional oven, so its also cheaper in terms of electricity or gas. Cleaning it is a breeze: instead of removing the bowl , I just use washing up liquid and a sponge to wipe the glass bowl and rim of the lid, then I use a moppet to soak up suds and rinse the lot. Washed, rinsed and dried in 2 minutes.

Thehalogen oven I use in the UK is probably the only one on the market that has a hinged lid . The link above will save you the bother of looking elsewhere, but of course you dont have to buy that particular model. Just be aware that halogen ovens with normal, removable lids can be a hazard, as both the glass and inside of the lid get extremely hot. Trying to handle such a heavy, hot, loose item is just one risk you might want to avoid.

How To Make Low Carb Bread With Almond Flour

This almond bread recipe is super easy! Just a few easy steps:

  • Prep. Preheat the oven and line a loaf pan with parchment paper.
  • Stir dry ingredients. These would be almond flour, psyllium husk powder, baking powder, and sea salt.
  • Add wet ingredients. Add the eggs, melted coconut oil, and warm water.

TIP: Mix well here to create air bubbles! This will help your bread rise.

  • Bake. Transfer the batter to the baking pan, round out the top, and bake until the top is crusty and an inserted toothpick comes out clean.

TIP: It will pass the toothpick test before its completely done, so make sure the top is very crusty, too.

Let your keto almond bread cool completely before slicing it, which will allow it to set inside.

Your Keto Bread Replacement Has Arrived

When you first set out to make a bread low carb, you are going to need to replace all purpose flour with a low carb alternative. Typically we use almond flour or coconut flour.

Almond flour provides more flavor and a generally more delicious result.

Coconut flour is much more absorbent and can oftentimes result in a dry loaf of bread.

Rather than trying to substitute coconut flour for almond flour, you are usually better off looking for alternative keto recipes that uses your desired flour, because they behave so differently in recipes. Either option is going to be a big improvement over wheat bread.

Vegetables On Paleo And Keto

Let me add some more confusion.

Vegetables are encouraged on the Paleo diet, but not so much on the Keto diet. While a person eating paleo may stuff themselves with carrots and beets, the person on the keto diet will choose vegetables low in carbs and eat them more sparingly.

This does not mean a person on a keto diet cant eat a carrot, but at six carbs, they will probably opt for something else.

  • Keto Bread at Whole Foods Market There are a few different options in the freezer section at Whole Foods. These breads will be labeled as Paleo Bread and will usually cost you $10+ per loaf!
  • Keto Bread at Aldi Aldi has a new product called LOven Fresh Zero Net Carbs Bread. Thats right, a store bought no carb bread! It seems to be flying off the shelves since we have not been able to get our hands on a loaf yet to review it. Be on the lookout for keto bread next time you are at Aldi.
  • Keto Bread at Sprouts Sprouts carries a line of high protein, low carb breads under the brand name Chompies. We were recently able to try Chompies, and while it did taste pretty good, the ingredients are not the best. Its not something we would buy again.
  • Local Keto Bread The last option would be to find a local bakery near you that makes keto bread. There are more companies catering to the low carb customer than ever before, so while this might not be an option in every city, its worth a look!

How To Cook My Low Carb Grain Free Gluten Free Bread Using An Ordinary Oven

My recipe has been perfected using a halogen oven because thats my preference. If you prefer to remain traditional, you can cook my keto low carb grain free gluten free bread in an ordinary pre-heated oven at 200ºC for 8-9 minutes . The results will be identical.

Ingredients needed for the keto low carb grain free gluten free bread.

1 medium egg. Soured cream . Buckwheat flour. Lupin flour. Baking soda . Salt. Flaxseed meal .

Buckwheatis a pseudo grain and a healthy ingredient to use, but its very high in carbs , so I use it sparingly. Lupin flour is, well, just amazing, and I use it a lot because its lower in carbs than coconut flour and tastes better, butif you have a peanut allergy, be aware that you may also react to lupin, although only some people do.

Is The Paleo Diet Healthy

Healthy is a subjective word. It can be extremely healthy if you dont overdo on the sugary fruit, nuts, nut products and the sweeteners.

If you have existed on processed foods most of your life, and you are making a switch, the paleo diet can be a game changer and bring abut positive health changes.

However, if you overdo the honey and maple syrup, you are still over-doing carbs and sugar. This can take your diet in an unhealthy direction.

Strictly speaking, the Paleo diet is gluten free, but is not necessarily keto friendly because high sugar content in most fruits, maple syrup, honey and higher carb vegetables are part of the Paleo lifestyle. However, you could follow a keto/paleo type plan by avoiding those foods, but adhering to grass fed, beef and keeping your net carbs to around 20.

Do You Need To Refrigerate Keto Bread

Yes, it is ideal to store keto bread in the refrigerator. It is also good to not slice the bread ahead of time. To prolong the shelf life of your keto bread you will want to slice it when you are hungry, and keep the entire loaf in a Ziploc bag, or a Tupperware container in the fridge. It will last in the fridge for 7-10 days.

Natures Harvest is another bread youll see on the shelves in most grocery stores. Its baked by a large commercial bakery that also bakes other popular brands such as Thomas muffins and SaraLee bread.

Theres absolutely nothing wrong with that and the Natures harvest loaf did live up to my expectations of what sandwich bread should look and feel like. But like Daves Killer bread , I did find the bread to be a little too sweet for my taste.

Be aware that a serving is 2 slices rather than just one. They have been good enough to list the carb content for both 1 and 2 slices on the packaging so its easy enough to figure out how many carbs youre consuming .

Its a wheat-based bread and its baked with soy so its not a good choice for those looking to avoid gluten or soy.

How To Make Sure Your Low Carb Bread Recipe Is Done

The only really challenging part about this low carb bread recipe is knowing when its done. It will look done before it actually is! And if you take it out too soon, it will fall and worse, it will be gummy inside.

Here are 2 ways to test for doneness:

  • The toothpick test. Insert a toothpick and check if it comes out clean. But, note that this bread will pass the toothpick test before its fully done. So, check with a toothpick and then continue baking for at least 10 more minutes.
  • The crust test. Another way to tell is that the top should get very hard and crusty. Yes, this low carb bread creates a hard crust! I actually love that, and its an important marker of the bread being done.
  • Oven temperatures vary, so it might take a little experimentation in yours if its not done the first time. But in general, err on the side of more time and not less. You can always cover the top if it starts to burn, though Ive never had to do that.
