How To Make Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free, Soy-Free Ice Cream!!

I’m sure I have by no means exhausted all the gluten and dairy free ice-cream out there, but I hope this gives you some ideas ahead of the heatwave!

If there are any of your favourites that I’ve missed out, please drop them in the comments below or

Best Chocolate: Cado Avocado Frozen Dessert

Cado ice cream stands out from the bunch because its main ingredient is avocado, not plant-based milk. This chocolate dessert starts with a mixture of organic avocado puree and avocado oil that’s then sweetened and flavored to perfection with organic cane sugar and organic cocoa powder. The end result is a deep chocolate flavor with no hint of avocado whatsoever.

If youre feeling a little more adventurous, Cado also offers salted caramel, java chip, vanilla bean, cookies and cream, cherry amaretto, lemon, and mint chocolate chip flavors.

Chocolate and vanilla are ice cream flavor staples, but if you’re in search of something deliciously indulgent, Haagen-Dazs Chocolate Salted Fudge Truffle always does the trick. Instead of almond, coconut, or oat, it uses Belgian chocolate as its core ingredient, and then mixes in salted fudge swirls and fudge truffle chunks. The end result is a rich and creamy plant-based ice cream that truly lives up to their traditional standard. This product is egg-, gluten-, and peanut-free, although it does contain soy.

While Haagen-Dazs doesnt have as many dairy-free options as some others on this list, other flavors include peanut butter chocolate fudge, mocha chocolate cookie, and coconut caramelall of which are just as satisfying.

How To Make Dairy Free Chocolate Oreo Ice Cream

I made this recipe with an ice cream maker since I think it has the best texture, but you can make it without an ice cream maker if you like, just read down father for instructions on that.

Here are the steps to make this ice cream recipe, its crazy easy :

  • Place your ingredients in a blender to mix things up smoothly and work out any lumps in the canned coconut milk .
  • Turn on your ice cream maker and pour the chocolate coconut milk mixture directly into the ice cream maker from the blender while its running.
  • Run the machine until your ice cream is like a firm soft serve.
  • Crush up gluten free sandwich cookies and mix them into the ice cream by hand.
  • Serve!
  • Some dairy free ice cream recipes call for chilling your ingredients beforehand when making ice cream. It makes things freeze a little faster, but Ive found that its not an absolute necessity.

I used room temperature ingredients for several of my oreo ice cream batches and it didnt take too much longer to freeze in the ice cream maker. Room temperature is fine, you just dont want to try and use hot ingredients.

If youre using a freezer bowl type ice cream maker like I use, its important to first turn on the machine to get it running before adding the coconut milk mixture to keep the cream from flash-freezing onto the sides of the container and preventing a smooth mix.

    Ruby Rockets Better Bars

We had mixed feelings when we first tried these bars. The Fudge flavor really did not go over well. And the healthier taste of the fruit flavors was a little odd at first. But once I picked up a fruity flavor after a long walk, I was hooked. They have a mellow, rich sweetness that really satisfies when your taste buds are more heightened or if you just prefer treats that are less sweet.

There are many plant-based ice creams on the market today, a handful of which are better than others. Some are unpleasantly icy and thin, while others lack any real flavor. The process of making non-dairy ice cream takes a lot of trial and error to replicate the rich creaminess of traditional ice cream without the milk or cream. Not everyone can pull it off, but the items on this list can.

    What To Look For

Sauces and baked goods, like cookie dough in ice cream, are generally a giveaway of gluten. Look for ingredients such as wheat flour and barley malt syrup, which contain gluten. Many brands will also include a note in the ingredients section about allergens like gluten or soy.

While ice cream that doesnt have any ingredients that contain gluten listed on the label is safe for people with gluten sensitivity or people who are hoping to avoid gluten, there is still a risk of cross-contamination. People with celiac disease should avoid them.

Cross-contamination is a major concern for the 3 million people in the United States with celiac disease. Even microscopic amounts of gluten can cause a reaction, according to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. For people with celiac disease, its extremely important that ice cream be labeled as gluten-free, or that it has a gluten-free certification. All foods labeled as gluten-free, free of gluten, no gluten, or without gluten must have less than 20 parts per million of gluten, according to

How To Make This Oreo Ice Cream Without An Ice Cream Maker

We prefer using an ice cream maker since it gets the ice cream made much faster and I think its creamier, but you can make this without an ice cream maker if you want .

Blend up your ingredients in the blender like normal and then pour it into a freezer safe glass dish, like a loaf pan. Pop it in the freezer until its frozen through, about 3-4 hours.

Once youre ready to dish it up, you can warm it in the microwave for a little bit to soften it just enough to help with scooping.

    And Wait What Is Plant

Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free Ice Cream with Mairlyn Smith

Plant-based ice cream is the hot, mysterious, new kid in town .

Plant-based ice cream is the same as vegan ice cream, which youre likely familiar with in light of its recent explosion of popularity. Plant-based, vegan, and dairy-free ice cream is all ice cream made from any kind of milk except cows milk . This just means that there are no animal products or animal derivatives used as ingredients.

Oh, and there are different types of dairy-free ice cream too. We should also note that dairy-free and lactose-free are not the same things either.

Lactose is a sugar that naturally occurs in milk. Since lactose comes from animal milk, dairy-free products will not have lactose in them. Lactose-free indicates the lactose component has been removed during production, but it is still a dairy product. Dairy-free = lactose-free, but lactose-free dairy-free.

For those following a vegan diet, looking to avoid dairy, or merely exploring new things, stick with products clearly labeled as vegan or plant-based, just to be safe.
