So remember when I said I had plans for my basic 5 Ingredient Homemade Nut Bars? Remember when I said itd be GOOD? And tasty? And saucy? And All the Things? Okay, maybe I didnt say that because I didnt want to spoil the surprise. But you know what I mean!

And does the combo of dark chocolate and sea salt equal saucy? I think it does.

Well, here ya go. Allow me to present to you my Homemade Dark Chocolate Sea Salt KIND Nut Bars.

Okay, fine, I cant really see you raise your hands, as this is the internet but I can feel your excitement due to my vivid imagination. Go imagination!!

Alright, its starting to sound a bit desperate and lonely up in here. Moving on

If youve been around BB for long enough, you know that healthy homemade snacks that actually taste like candy/dessert awesomeness is a BIG thing around here. Like, a really. Big. Thing. Lets just say that I spend my days and nights thinking of excuses/ways/recipes to allow us hard-working, sweet tooth , folks ways to enjoy what we love in the afternoon, in the morn, and for sure, after the gym. Oh. YES.

They ALL. Taste. Like. Dessert.

Dark Chocolate Cherry Cashew

These are quite sticky on the inside, like the other fruity bars, but the dark chocolate dunk and drizzle make them easier to handle. Despite the cashew name, big almond chunks are also ever-present. Theyre complemented with big tender bites of dried cherry, and a small smattering of crispies. It isnt my favorite, but mainly because I havent loved cherry and chocolate together lately. Nonetheless, its a good, solid, unique bar.

Just the name of this bar has us drooling. Smooth caramel, rich dark chocolate, full of nuts and a sprinkle of Brazilian sea salt will have you savouring every bite.

What Do They Taste Like

If you’ve had a Kind bar, then you’ll be familiar with the flavors in their frozen line. Some selections include Dark Chocolate Almond Sea Salt & Nut, Peanut Butter Dark Chocolate Nut and Mint Chocolate Almond & Nut. Each bar weighs 44-45 grams, making it similar in size to their original, not-frozen snack bar. What makes the frozen bars different from their shelf-stable counterparts is the creamy, frozen layer of sweetened nut milk in them. While it’s not ice cream, it is rich with a similar mouthfeel, making it just as satisfying. All the flavors are delicious, each providing a sufficient ratio of crunch and texture to creamy, frozen nut milk. The layer of dark chocolate coating is also just enough, but does have a tendency to break a bit when enjoying it, so it’s a good idea to have a plate or napkin handy.

Dark Chocolate Nuts & Sea Salt

The texture of these bars is boldly chunky. So chunky in fact, that you can even see holes in it. Not surprisingly, those whole nuts provide a good deal of crunch, but are bound together for a chewy finish. In terms of flavor, it had very assertive bites of sea salt, and was surprisingly low on the sweetness scale, but still pleasant. We thought it was tasty, fulfilling, and more like a low-sugar sweet snack than a dessert.

How To Make Granola Bars

The ingredients are simple, but figuring out how to bake the bars so they have the right consistency took some experimenting. Here is the step-by-step process:

  • Mix all the ingredients. Add the almonds, coconut flakes, and maple syrup into a medium bowl and mix until well combined. Make sure the maple syrup entirely coats the almonds and coconut. The maple syrup will have a tendency to sink to the bottom, which is fine.
  • Bake. Transfer the mixture into a parchment paper-lined 8 x 8 inch/20 x 20 cm baking dish and press it into an even layer. Really pack the mixture down. Typically, liquid sweeteners in granola bars or candy bars are heated to 260°F/127°C to hold all the ingredients together. Theres no candy thermometer needed for this recipe but you do have to pack the mixture as tightly as possible. The harder and longer you press, the less chance youll end up with granola instead of granola bars. Bake the granola bars at 325°F/163°C until golden brown on top and completely cooked through, about 35 minutes. The maple syrup needs to caramelize and harden in order for the bars to hold really well.
  • Cool. Let the granola bars cool completely. The bars will be soft straight out of the oven, but will harden once cooled. Once cool, lift the bars out of the baking dish and peel the parchment paper off the bottom of the bars. The top will be a lot like a candy bar hard and snappy while the bottom will be sticky and chewy. Cut into individual bars.

    Enjoy Life chewy bars are another delicious snack bar to keep on hand. They come in flavors like cocoa loco, sunseed crunch, and caramel apple in this variety pack, and theyre free of other allergens as well including eggs and nuts.

    If you dont mind a little bit of added sugar in your snack bar, these ones are a tasty treat that taste like dessert!

    The cocoa loco flavor has 2 grams of protein and 9 grams of sugar, which doesnt make it the healthiest option on my list here but still a decent choice considering its free from so many allergens.

    When the Kind Bar folks say almond, they dont mess around. Big whole almonds throughout make this bar a workout to eat. Im not a coffee fan, so this will never be my go-to flavor. Even so, the java isnt as in your face as some mocha bars tend to be. Its notable and a little grainy from the bean. But overall the taste is mellow and not too sweet, for a very snackable bar. You almost wouldnt guess its coated in chocolate.

    Dark Chocolate Almond & Coconut

    KIND Breakfast Bars: Peanut Butter & Blueberry Almond Review

    I wanted to compare this flavor to an Almond Joy, but its so much fresher, chunkier, and far more wholesome than the popular candy bar. Each bite contains big pieces of almond, large shards of coconut, a sticky but perfectly sweet binder, and a pleasant semi-sweet dark chocolate coating. For Kind Bars, this one leans more toward the dessert side, but it is still well balanced in terms of sweet and savory.

    How To Store Granola Bars

    • Storing at room temperature: transfer the granola bars into an airtight container and store at room temperature for up to 1 month.
    • Refrigerating: transfer the granola bars into an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 months.
    • Freezing: transfer the granola bars into an airtight container, separating each layer with parchment paper, so the bars dont stick together, and freeze for up to 6 months.

    Are Kind Bars Healthy

    Yes and no.

    Compared to other snack bars on the market, they are generally healthier and a great snack choice. Depending on which flavor you choose, they can be quite protein-rich.

    However, overall, they tend to contain a little too much sugar and cereal, which isnt the best for a grain-free or gluten-free diet.

    They also have a bunch of ingredients I have either personally never used or dont even know what their benefit is. These ingredients include palm kernel oil, glucose syrup, rice flour, and soy lecithin.

    How To Make Homemade Kind Bars

    Step 1: Line an 8 x 8-inch pan with parchment paper and set aside.

    Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, combine all your ingredients, except for your maple syrup, and mix well.

    Step 3: Add your maple syrup and mix very well, until fully incorporated. If the KIND Bar batter is a little too loose, add a dash more maple syrup.

    Step 4: Transfer the mixture into the lined pan and spread out evenly. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until firm.

    Step 5: If desired, drizzle over some coconut butter and allow it to firm up into the bars. Cut into bars and enjoy.

    Dark Chocolate Cinnamon Pecan

    Im really liking this flavor. Something about the warm underlying cinnamon, rich but earthy pecans and sweet dark chocolate is just so cohesive and harmonious. This could easily be my favorite of the chocolate-dipped varieties. Just add a sprinkling of coarse sea salt and Id be swooning!
