Has Your Child Experienced A Food Reaction
Experiencing your child reacting to food is scary. Finding the cause can be tough, especially when it comes to trying to discover which item they ingested caused the reaction.
Symptoms from my son consuming a product his body doesnt agree with have included:
- eczema on his face
- stomach pains
- flu-like symptoms
It wasnt until we switched what he was eating that all of his symptoms cleared up, and fast! This experience led me to source yummy snacks that accommodated his new sensitivities.
Today, his body can tolerate a larger variety of foods without causing a severe reaction. But, we remain mindful of his bodys response and keep his snacks free from food allergies. I pay attention to which foods wreak havoc on his system. One of them is milk chocolate chips. We switched to dark chocolate chips, which he loves.

Where Can I Buy Items On This List
When I first began the search years ago, gluten and dairy-free snacks were hard to find. Today, most grocery stores carry an array of choices. We regularly find them at Costco, Whole Foods and Trader Joes. I usually buy multiples of each snack when I shop. That way, Im stocked up on snacks I know my son favors.
When we travel and those stores arent available, I head to the local grocery to see if they have a gluten-free section. Web ordering is another option. Amazon carries most of the items on my snack list, even the ones from Trader Joes.

Apart from that, some of these candies also contain beeswax, sourced from the bees hives, you can check beeswax vegan status with us.
Also, there are artificial flavors and colors added that might not be vegan. Some artificial colors are vegan like Red 40, you can understand the details with us. The production process of some colors and flavors cause harm to animals. It is hard to tell which colors and flavors are vegan since the gummy bear brands do not mention it in the label. Gluten Free Snacks For Kids: What To Know
Finding snacks for your kids that are both appealing and healthy isnt easy. When you add additional requirements to the mix, like wanting the snacks to be gluten free, your task becomes even more challenging. Going gluten free is a common dietary trend right now.
People say that gluten free food helps them lose weight, have more energy, and even just feel better in general. However, the diet affects different people in unique ways.
While every child wont necessarily need to go gluten free at snack time, others could find that it helps with everything from their attention span to their digestion.
How To Spot A Gluten
Gluten is easy to spot in foods that are clearly made with wheat, barley, or rye, but it can also sometimes be tricky to identify. Many food companies label their foods as gluten-free to help shoppers find them easily. Since the FDA has established standards on what it means to be labeled gluten-free, this can be trusted. On food without this claim or where you see phrases like made with no gluten-containing ingredients, its always wise to double-check the ingredients list on the package to be certain. Some less-obvious gluten-containing ingredients include durum, semolina, graham, malt extract, malt vinegar, and brewers yeast. For an extensive list of gluten-containing foods, visit .
You may also sometimes find a statement on the package that says produced in a facility that also processes wheat. This means there may be a risk for cross-contact with gluten when the food is manufactured. For those with severe gluten allergies, its prudent to avoid this food, but truly its a personal decision based on your unique situation. Its best to check with your physician to understand your childs specific needs.

Gluten Free Breakfast Cereals
There is something about cereal that kids just love and there are some great GF options. Cereal and milk is a good way to start the day, but also makes an excellent snack in the middle of the day or at bedtime! Our gluten free family should own half of the Chex company by now. We love these cereals. Most flavors are gluten free. My daughter loves the Cinnamon Chex and my son loves crunchy Corn Chex. Cheerios are also gluten free, however, they are made with oats and some people with celiac disease do not tolerate oats. Make sure to ask your gluten free guest if Cheerios are safe for them. Unfortunately, many popular cereals are not gluten free either due to the presence of wheat or malt flavoring. Kellogg’s Rice Krispies are not gluten free because of the presence of malt flavoring . Good gluten free alternatives to Rice Krispies are available including Malt-o-Meal crispy rice. We use these to make rice krispie bars and they taste the same as the original. School Safe Snacks For Your Gluten
Heres an easy gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free snack mix to make in bulk and portion for kids to bring to school. Im also sharing tips on other school safe snacks for gluten-free kids!
My boys teachers like for them to bring a snack to have during their school day. I think it is a great idea as it minimizes the distractions that growling tummies and low blood sugar can bring.
Since we already eat a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables at lunch and dinner, I allow for snacks to be a little more on the carb side. It fills them up and helps tide them over until the next meal.
Their school is great about making sure that everyone is aware of food allergies in the classroom, and sends home a letter outlining what food items arent allowed. Due to school guidelines and concern for children with other food allergies, I avoid sending any products with nuts, peanuts, or peanut butter in them.
Fortunately, there are plenty of gluten-free, nut-free and peanut-free snacks to send! Ill share with you my boys favorite snacks that I send in pre-portioned bags:
- Homemade Gluten-free Nut-Free Snack Mix – with gluten-free pretzels, banana chips, dried cranberries and raisins.
- Beef Sticks/beef jerky
- Applesauce pouches
Ive included many of these in our Gluten-free Snack Bin that I keep in the pantry. It does include a few nut snacks, but my kids know those are for at home or in the car only. The rest are all nut-free and peanut-free.
