While this bread doesnt contain as many whole grains or seeds as other options on this list, its still a good source of fiber.
One sandwich thin provides 160 calories, 2 grams of fat, less than 0.5 grams of saturated fat, 340 mg of sodium, 33 grams of carbs, 4 grams of fiber, 5 grams of sugar, and 3 grams of protein .
Proving Your Burger Buns
Because we’re working with an enriched dough, it does take a little longer to prove than some of my other bread recipes.
I usually prove these for around 60-90 minutes, until they have puffed up nicely and about doubled in size.
If you have a particularly warm spot, you might find they prove a little quicker.
And likewise, if it’s a cold day, it may take longer.
Use these timings as a rough guide but if your rolls don’t puff up a lot in 90 minutes, don’t be afraid to leave them a little longer.

Shape With Plenty Of Extra Flour
In this sort of recipe, I prefer to start with a wet dough. Its more difficult to shape and handle, but you can flour the dough generously during shaping without drying it out too much.
Just handle the dough with a light touch, and even a higher quantity of extra flour wont incorporate into the center of the dough where it will stifle the yeast.

How To Make Gluten Free Burger Buns
There’s a full printable recipe card down below, but I thought I would illustrate some of the steps here to make them a little easier.
I’ve also made this handy video too, so you can see exactly what to do!
I do find having a visual reference always helps so here are some step-by-step photos.
Once your yeast is activated and you’ve individually mixed your wet and dry ingredients, it’s time to mix them all together
Working with gluten free bread is not like working with normal bread at all.
Instead of a dough, you’ll end up with more of a thick, sticky batter, which looks a little like this:

Once the rolls have almost doubled in size, take them out of the oven . Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Make an egg wash, consisting of one egg beaten with a splash or two of water. Carefully brush this onto each roll.
Bake the rolls for about 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and they spring back when lightly touched. Remove them from the oven and brush them with a generous amount of melted butter. Allow them to cool on a wire rack before slicing open.

Main Reasons For Eating Gluten
Basically, like what weve said, most people with digestive problems such as those suffering from celiac disease tend to eliminate gluten from their diet. Due to this, they are opting for gluten-free foods like gluten-free hamburger buns. Here are some of the good reasons to do so:
Management of celiac disease
Autoimmune disorders like the celiac disease may elicit the immune system to cause havoc on the small intestine even with small amounts of gluten. Once the attack of the immune system becomes repetitive, the small intestine may stop absorbing essential body nutrients like calcium and iron. As it progresses and left untreated, celiac disease may improve and cause nutritional deficiencies.
Due to this, people diagnosed with having celiac disease is recommended to follow a strict diet without gluten. This will generally give more time for the small intestine to heal in order to get the proper nutrients. It will also reduce the risk of related problems.
Controlling DH or dermatitis herpetiformis
Maybe, one of the reasons why you are looking for gluten-free hamburger buns where to buy options is because you are suffering from DH. Generally, the DH or dermatitis herpetiformis is one form of celiac disease that instructs the immune system to damage the skin instead of the small intestine. Having this, people may experience bumpy rash accompanied by chronic itching that is generally painful as well.

How To Store Them
It’s always important to let them cool for at least half an hour before then tucking in.
This is because when you take the gluten free burger buns out of the oven, you need to allow times for the gums to settle.
There’s a reason why people love warm fresh bread – not hot!
Once cooled completely, I’d recommend popping them in an airtight container straight away.
If you’re going to freeze your bread, do this straight away by popping them in a freezer bag.
These are best eaten the day of baking – if you’re baking them ahead of freezing them, I’d recommend refreshing them before eating
To do this, either microwave for 10-20 seconds or sprinkle with water and put in a hot oven for five minutes before eating.
You could also cut them in half and toast or griddle them.
If you’re doing this on the barbecue, make sure you’re careful to avoid any cross contamination!

Can This Be Made Dairy Free
What this does also mean, is that I haven’t yet managed to create a dairy free or vegan version yet.
I’m not sure how well it would work to just straight-swap the dairy and egg for dairy free versions, so without trying it myself I wouldn’t recommend it.
That being said, if you’re an experienced vegan baker and give this a go, I’d love to hear how you get on and what works for you!

Shaping Gluten Free Hamburger Buns
First, cut the dough in half with a bench scraper to make both hamburger and hot dog buns. Put aside one half of the dough while you shape the other half.
Portion out the dough into about 3-ounce pieces. I use my scale to measure each so theyll all be roughly the same size. Roll them into balls . Place them about 2 inches apart on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Take your hand and press down on them to flatten them to about 1/2-inch thick. This just ensures that they all rise up and not out. Cover the rolls while you work on shaping the hot dog buns.
How To Buy Gluten
These days, there are many gluten-free bun and roll brands on supermarket shelves. They’re usually made with rice flour, tapioca and potato flour all gluten-free ingredients.
When you’re looking for a GF bun at the grocery store, find a “Gluten-Free” label on the product packaging. This label is regulated by the Food & Drug Administration and signifies that the food you’re eating has less than 20 parts per million of gluten, which is safe for people with celiac disease to eat.
If you want even more security, buy buns that are labeled “Certified Gluten-Free” these are assessed by the Gluten-Free Certification Organization , a qualified third party with especially strict standards, certifying foods that have only 10 ppm of gluten or less, according to the organization’s website.
To play it safe, avoid hot dog and hamburger buns at a barbecue or restaurant unless you can be completely sure they’re gluten-free by asking the chef, waiter or manager to confirm this.
Even if the buns you order contain no gluten ingredients say, they’re made with rice flour instead of wheat flour they may still be at risk for cross-contamination, which occurs when gluten foods come in contact with other ingredients either through manufacturing or preparation, according to the Celiac Disease Foundation.

Shaping Gluten Free Hot Dog Buns
Shaping hot dogs buns is just as easy. You can roll them into individual ropes, but I wanted a split top bun and I was lazy. So I found my method a little easier.
Begin by rolling out the second half of your dough into a rectangle thats about 1/2-inch thick. I had enough of my dough left to make 7 3-ounce-sized hot dog buns. Begin cutting the dough into strips that are roughly equal in size. You could steal some of your hamburger bun dough to make an even 8, but thats up to you.
Lay them on their side on the other half of your baking sheet. Press down lightly to make an evenly sized roll thats about one inch high. Do this with the rest of the rolls, spacing about 1/2 inch apart. These will end up touching when theyre fully risen and baked, but thats what we want for nice, soft sides.
