The Nutrition Facts Of Cauliflower Pizza Crust

Gluten-Free Low-Carb Almond Crust Pizza

To truly understand our cauliflower pizza crust, examining the nutrition facts is essential. Our nutrition facts are measured out for a serving size of two pieces, which is one-sixth of the pizza. In those two slices are 110 calories, 3 grams of protein, and 2.5 grams of fat, including 1.5 grams of saturated fat. As for carbs, cauliflower pizza crust comes in at 16 grams of carbohydrates. Compared to our deep dish, gluten-free, original, and skinny crusts, cauliflower crust is middle of the road for carbohydrates. Its equivalent to a deep dish, which has 15 grams of carbohydrates. These are higher than our skinny crusts 5 grams and our original crusts 10 grams. Wondering where those carbs come from? While we cut out barley, rye, and other grain derivatives, our substitute ingredients of rice and potatoes are still high in carbs!

How To Make Low Carb Pizza Crust Crispy

I like to make my low carb pizza crust about a quarter-inch thick, which gets it pretty crispy. You can make it any thickness you like.

TIP: Keep in mind that youll detect more of the almond flour nutty flavor if you make it thicker.

Just adjust the oven time up for a thicker crust or down for a thinner one .

TIP: Watch this paleo pizza crust closely, because once it starts to burn, it progresses quickly.

If you dont have a rolling pin, pressing this almond flour pizza crust down with your fingers will work too. Just make sure to get it to a uniform thickness. If you find the almond flour dough too sticky for rolling or pressing, you can refrigerate it for a while which will help remedy this problem.

Can Fathead Pizza Dough Be Frozen

Yes, you can freeze keto fathead pizza! There are two options:

  • Make the dough, form a ball, wrap tightly in plastic, and freeze it. When you want to use it, let it thaw completely and then roll out as needed. Youll have to bake the crust before adding toppings and baking again.
  • Pre-bake the keto fathead pizza crust. I prefer this option for convenience no thawing needed! Bake the crust as directed, wrap it, and store in the freezer. When you are ready to enjoy the pizza, simply add sauce and toppings to the frozen crust, and bake for about 20 minutes at 400 degrees, until hot.

Tip #2 Always Investigate The Ingredients

Since weve established that gluten-free doesnt necessarily mean healthier, it is important to always check out the ingredients before you bite into your pie.

This is a helpful tip for anyone following a diet that restricts certain foods. In this case, you will especially be on the lookout for the ingredients of the crust, the main carb source in pizza.

Be wary of pizzas with a lot of modified starches and make sure the ingredients dont contain any of the foods to avoid while following a keto diet.

If you are ordering out, most chain restaurants will have their ingredients and nutrition facts listed on their website, so you can check before chowing down.

    • Rolling pin Though you can use your hands, youll get the most even cooking if you roll out your keto pizza crust. And if you like it thin and crispy, this is a must!
    • Pizza pan You can cook the crust on a basic pizza pan, but this one has a perforated surface to help the crust crisp up. Place parchment paper over it to prevent sticking.
    • Pizza stone and pizza peel A pizza stone creates a crispier exterior to the crust. For a fathead pizza recipe, youll still want to use parchment paper on top, so it wont stick. The pizza peel allows you to place the crust onto the stone and remove when its done.

    What Is Gluten Free Diet

our valentines dinner! BEST low carb, grain free, gluten ...

A gluten-free diet excludes all gluten-included items from the menu. Gluten is found in the proteins in wheat, rye, barley, and triticale. Many people are allergic to gluten or have high gluten sensitivity.

Most people who adapt to a gluten-free diet dont have a choice. They are either intolerant to gluten or have celiac disease. Consuming gluten can truly be disturbing to the point that it gets you to the ER. Hence you should consume gluten-included items in careful amounts.

Pizza mainly consists of gluten. Gluten has a unique sticky property that makes pizza stretchy. Gluten allows the bread to rise freely and gives it a chewy texture.

Since many foods contain rye, wheat, barley, and more, gluten is hard to avoid. However, gluten-free is not a prerequisite for those who want to adopt the ketogenic diet.

The frozen pizza I remember from my college days is a far cry from the homemade low carb pizza crust that I make now. Its also packed with protein from eggs and healthy fat from coconut oil and almonds, as well as vitamins and minerals.

Fathead pizza and cauliflower pizza crust are still some of my favorite keto low carb crust recipes, but for those that want to reduce dairy or a more paleo friendly option, this is the best of both worlds.

    Kneading The Fathead Pizza Dough

Kneading with your hands is the trick to making Fathead pizza dough blend well in the third step of the recipe. Especially when working with coconut flour, the mixture dries and solidifies quickly.

Just keep using your hands to squeeze and knead until the dough is uniform. You can always reheat a little to soften the cheese again, but dont overdo it, to avoid cooking the eggs.

How To Make Fathead Pizza With Coconut Flour Or Almond Flour

Whether you make it with almond flour or coconut flour, the process for how to make fathead pizza is very similar. There are 3 basic steps:

  • Melt the cheeses together. You can melt the mozzarella and cream cheese together in the microwave, or a double boiler on the stove.
  • Form the dough with the flour and egg. Its important for the fathead pizza dough to be uniform. You can use a food processor, which I find easiest, or knead with your hands and squeeze through your fingers until its uniform.
  • Bake the fathead pizza. Once you have the dough, roll it out or form it into a crust, and bake. If the dough is too sticky, check the tips below on how to deal with this.
  • The original version from the movie had Fathead pizza crust with almond flour. If you want to use that, you totally can! Here is the difference in ingredients based on almond vs coconut flour:

    • Fathead pizza recipe with almond flour: 3/4 cup almond flour, 1 1/2 cup mozzarella, 2 tbsp cream cheese, 1 egg
    • Fathead pizza recipe with coconut flour: 1/3 cup coconut flour, 1 1/2 cup mozzarella, 2 tbsp cream cheese, 2 eggs

The difference is in the amount of flour and eggs.

Ive also tried making this keto pizza crust with flax seed meal, and that works too. Its a great option for people with allergies!

Fathead Dough Using A Food Processor

Another option to make the Fathead pizza dough come together more easily would be to use a food processor. Just fit it with the dough blade, or even simply an S knife blade, and have it do all the work for you!

You may need to scrape down the sides a little to get the dough to form in a food processor. Also, if it doesnt want to mix together, positioning the cheese near the blade can help.
