How To Make Homemade Ranch Dressing:

Easy Dairy Free Ranch Dressing Recipe, Luscious & Creamy | gf explorers

It’s really pretty simple… just add all your ingredients to a bowl and whisk together.

Store in an airtight jar in the fridge until ready to serve.

Allow at least 30 minutes for flavors to blend prior to serving…..

Personally I think it’s better after several hours so if you can make it ahead I would suggest that for optimal flavor.

Dairy Free Ranch Dressing Recipe

I had always heard of people making ranch dressing but all the recipes I saw online had dairy in the form of sour cream, buttermilk or cream. I go off and on dairy to gauge my reactions but most days I know I feel better without it. Over the holidays I was with my sisters sister-in-law who blogs over at The Kitchen Rag. She is dairy free and was to going to be eating dinner with us that night so I wanted to make a dairy free dressing option for her. Of course most salad dressings are full of rancid oils that are genetically modified too. Most store bought dressing also have plenty of MSG. I modeled my recipe from my friend Kims blog where she is cooking all of Sally Fallons recipe from the epic book Nourishing Traditions.

Why Buttermilk Is Not Necessary In This Dressing:

Well personally I don’t use a lot of buttermilk… as a matter of fact almost never.

So to buy that and have it sitting in the fridge seems like a big waste for me.

But you can actually get the same tangy ranch flavor with a little bit of lemon juice.

I even got Makaela to eat broccoli with this dressing and “she claimed” she doesn’t like broccoli.

So anywho… at least we got that on record. A good way to get kiddos to eat broccoli.

Gluten Free Ranch Dressing Recipe

I have always made ranch dressing with sour cream. Now that I am avoiding dairy it was time to create a recipe that didnt begin and end with sour cream.

When I poked around on the web I found that the dairy free ranch dressing recipes all used coconut or almond milk. Now . . . Im sure the herbs are the main flavor. But the possibility of my ranch dressing even having a hint of coconut flavor was more of a risk than I was willing to take.

Want To Spice Up Your Salad Routine

Salads are a staple in my kitchen and are the secret to maintaining my weight. I try to eat at least one salad a day, whether on its own or with another meal. They’re versatile and can be assembled in many different ways, but the secret to being able to consistently eat more greens lies in the dressing.

The good news is that making your own dressing is pretty simple. Why buy the commercially made ones that contain excess sugar, salt, GMO soybean oils, and a long list of ingredients that are hard to pronounce? Check out my 10 recipes below. All of my recipes are:

  • dairy-free,

Ranch dressing is good on so many different foods. One of our boys often says it would even be good on rocks . Salads are, of course, the perfect backdrop for a tasty homemade dressing. However, dont limit yourself to just salads! For example, here are a few ideas to consider:

  • Topping baked potatoes
  • As a dip for fresh veggies, chips, french fries, chicken nuggets, or tater tots

How Do You Serve Dairy

Obviously, you can add this homemade dairy-free ranch dressing recipe to a salad. OR you could eat it with a whole bunch of other foods. I wanted to share a few ideas on foods to eat with ranch.

  • Veggies: Whether you are eating some fresh veggies or roasting them, adding a touch of ranch dressing takes them to the next level. This is a great tip if you have kiddos that don’t like veggies. You can talk them into it easier when ranch is involved.
  • Fries: Add ranch to your go-to keto fries recipe, or check out my low carb keto fries recipe. Fries in ranch is food heaven.
  • Chicken: Ranch dressing and chicken are a dream team. Don’t believe me? Dip these healthy baked chicken tenders or my easy blackened chicken tenders in the ranch, and you’ll see.

What To Eat With This Ranch Dressing/dip

When I took this ranch dressing to work, I also brought in samples of my Buffalo Chickpea Meatballs. Not only was the dressing a hit, but so were these tasty little meatless meatballs.

A win-win I must say!

In addition to the Buffalo “meatballs,” this dressing makes a great topping for my Buffalo Chickpea Burgers too.

I also enjoyed dipping some chickpea nuggets as well as all kinds of veggies into this delicious ranch!

And of course, good ole potato chips, French fries and sweet potato fries work well too!

Vegan Ranch Dressing Ingredients

Vegan mayonnaise. I debated whether or not to use vegan mayo in this recipe. I know that there are less processed homemade vegan ranch recipes out there that use blended raw cashews as the base.

But those recipes are also more involved: you have to pre-soak the cashews and then use a blender to turn them into a sauce.

Since I wanted my ranch to be truly easy and quick, I bit the bullet and went with store-bought vegan mayo.

My go-to vegan mayo is the tried-and-true Vegenaise by Follow Your Heart. Its also the easiest to find in most grocery stores. Other good options include the Chosen Foods Vegan Avocado Oil Mayo, and Hellmanns/Best Foods vegan mayo alternative.

White distilled vinegar. White vinegar adds the distinct sharp flavor that ranch dressing is famous for.

Alternatively, you can use lemon juice or apple cider vinegar, but be aware that the flavor will be a bit different. In my opinion, apple cider vinegar makes this dressing taste more like blue cheese than ranch .

Unsweetened non-dairy milk. Milk helps to thin out the texture of mayo. Use a bit more of it to get the consistency of a salad dressing, or less of it to keep the ranch sauce thick as a dip.

Ive used both unsweetened and original almond milk to test this recipe. The unsweetened milk works better, but if you dont have it, the original, slightly sweeter version will do too. Important: dont use vanilla non-dairy milk unless you want your vegan ranch to be vanilla-flavored.

A Classic Made Dairy Free

Homemade Ranch Dressing (Vegan, Gluten

Ive never met anyone who doesnt love ranch dressing. Its flavor packed, versatile, creamy and pairs with so many eats. Having a tasty and easy non dairy ranch dressing recipe in your back pocket means a hearty salad with ranch is never too far away.

I grew up on store bought ranch so I didnt have a clue I could make my own until I started adulting. After learning how to cook, I discovered I wanted more control of the ingredients in the recipes I was making.

I found making homemade ranch dressing was easy and tastes better than anything I can buy, prepackaged, in the store.

Why This Dairy Free Ranch Dressing Is Healthier Than Store Bought Ranch

Many store bought ranch dressings are made with dairy, highly processed inflammatory oils, sugar, and MSG.

This recipe contains:

This dairy free ranch would be delicious:

  • With your favorite green salad
  • As a dip for fresh cut veggies
  • As a dipping sauce for chicken wings
  • As a dipping sauce for pan roasted potatoes
  • Drizzled over chicken, pork chops, or a cast iron steak

Gluten Ingredients To Avoid In Salad Dressing

In addition to knowing which salad dressings are generally going to be safe for your gluten-free diet, its also important to know what ingredients youll want to look for in order to avoid them.

You can look at the back of any bottled salad dressing and look for these ingredients. If you find them, youll know youll want to avoid this product and look for something different that is gluten-free.

  • Malt vinegar
  • Soy sauce
  • Spice blend

Some of these ingredients may be an indication of gluten in the product, while sometimes it isnt.

For example, modified food starch CAN be made from gluten, but it isnt always necessarily made from gluten.

Modified food starch can also be made from corn, and if the packaging shows modified food starch , youll know that ingredient is gluten-free, as corn doesnt contain gluten.

The main thing to keep in mind is that if you see one of these ingredients in an ingredients list, they may contain gluten.

If there are details about that ingredient, like more ingredients within parentheses, and these dont contain any gluten-containing ingredients, then you can feel okay about that product being gluten-free.

One of my little secrets is that I carry around a copy of my GFDF Take Along Cards so that I always have a point of reference when I can sneak a peek at the ingredient list of a food.

More Healthy Snack Ideas

If youre on the search for more healthy snack ideas that are gluten free, grain free, low carb, paleo, vegan, and delicious, heres a few of my favorites.

  • Add mayonnaise and coconut cream to a bowl and whisk until fully combined.
  • Add in all remaining ingredients, except the water. Mix until fully combined.
  • If you want to eat this as a ranch dip, leave as is. If you want to eat this as a ranch salad dressing, add 3-4 Tbsp of water to thin out the consistency.
  • Store in a glass mason jar or container with a lid in the fridge for up to 7 days.

Do I Need To Look For A Gluten

CREAMY PALEO RANCH {Dairy-Free, Gluten-Free}

Depending on your level of sensitivity to gluten, you may want to look for a gluten-free label before buying any salad dressing youre looking at when shopping at the store.

A gluten-free label on any packaged food product will show you that the brand has tested their product and, as required by the FDA, can only contain less than 20ppm of gluten in that product. That is trace amounts or less of gluten.

It can be helpful to have that extra note of assurance that the product is gluten-free, but if youre good at reading ingredients lists, know the names of gluten, and you know your level of sensitivity isnt super high, then you may also be able to get away with eating a food that doesnt have that label.

You will need to determine what youre comfortable with when it comes to gluten-free labeling based on what you know about your body and your reactions to gluten.

Do I Have To Use Fresh And Dried Dill To Make This Dairy Free Ranch Dressing

We wrote this vegan ranch dressing to give the best taste possible. There is a reason behind our madness in using both fresh and dried dill. Dried dill is much more potent than fresh. Thats why you need less of it than you do fresh. However, it can also lead to a bitter taste if too much is used. Additionally, too much of a fresh ingredient can be overwhelming. We believe that the best combination for this dairy free ranch dressing is a mixture of both and it gives the best taste.
