How To Make Gluten

I love making Gluten-Free Chex Mix. Its really very easy to make and you can add some of your favorite ingredients, like pistachios or gluten-free pretzels to the ingredients.

Lets get started:

  • In a large, microwave-safe bowl combine the cereal, pretzels, and nuts.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the melted vegan butter, tamari, miso, garlic, and onion powder.
  • Drizzle half of the butter mixture over the cereal and gently stir to combine. Then pour in the remaining butter mixture and again, stir the cereal to ensure its all coated.
  • Place the bowl in the microwave and cook on high for 6 minutes, removing the bowl and stirring every 2 minutes.
  • When its done, let it sit for a minute, then pour it onto a pan lined with parchment or waxed paper. Use a spatula to spread it out into a thin layer. The cereal will get crunchy as it cools.
  • Transfer to a serving bowl to serve. Store in an airtight container for up to 15 to 20 days.
  • Tips For Making Air Fryer Chex Mix:

This can be made gluten-free or regular depending on your personal preference and needs. If you do plan to make it gluten-free, the main difference will be using gluten-free pretzels.

We used to make this as kids with my grandma, she always called it goop. She would literally put anything in the cupboards in it, so you can get creative too. It was always a surprise of what would be in grandmas goop each year!

She would also go heavy on the Worcestershire sauce, which actually just made it so much better. That means in my opinion, the more the better!

This recipe can be made in a traditional Air Fryer or added to your list of Ninja Foodi Recipes.

Its best to use aluminum foil in the air fryer to make sure the ingredients dont fall through the holes in your air fryer basket. If using foil, be sure to roll the sides up so that the air is still circulating in the air fryer.

The cook time for this recipe is going to vary because all air fryers heat differently. Its best to cook this at 350*F for 3 minutes, then stir it up and add an additional 3 minutes. In my Ninja Foodi Air Fryer, this takes about 6-7 minutes to fully cook.

We like ours to be crispy too even a little burnt on the sides.

  • Is Chex Mix Gluten Free

    Gluten Free Chex Mix

A recipe for Chex Mix can easily be adapted to gluten free, but not all are made safe to enjoy. There are two things to watch out for.

First of all, most recipes contain Worcestershire sauce, but not all brands are gluten free. Some contain malt barley, which needs to be avoided. However, the US distributed Lea & Perrins Original is certified GF.

The other thing to watch out for are the mix-ins. Original Chex Party Mix contains wheat Chex, which is not safe to consume. There may be other non-gluten free add-ins, such as crackers, sesame sticks, and melba toasts to avoid.

    Homemade Chex Mix Flavors

Weve made this Chex mix with 3 different flavors to suit any taste:

    • Original Chex Mix. This one is the classic flavor of Chex mix. It is savory, a bit garlicky, and a little smoky from the added paprika. This will please just about anyone!
    • Spicy Chex Mix. This one is similar to the original flavor, but gets just a bit of spice thanks to the addition of Franks Red Hot Sauce. Its just hot enough and would be perfect for your next Football party as it tastes just a bit like buffalo wings.
    • Honey Nut Chex Mix. This one is for the sweet and salty fans! The mix of Chex, pretzels, and pecans gets coated in a delicious honey butter mixture for an addictive treat.

    Homemade Chex Mix Ingredients

We wanted to make this Chex mix gluten-free so that everyone can enjoy it, without sacrificing the flavor. Here are the key ingredients:

    • Corn and Rice Chex Of course, it couldn’t be Chex Mix without Chex! Using two types of Chex cereal in the snack mix helps provide a fun contrast of textures.
    • PretzelsThese gluten-free pretzels from Glutino are my personal favorite, they’re super crunchy and don’t go stale easily like other gluten-free brands!
    • Crackers We chose to use these crackers from Simple Mills. They were the perfect size for the mix and took on the flavors well!
    • Mixed Nuts You’ll want plain, unsalted mixed nuts or you can use a few of your favorite nuts instead.
    • Butter Butter is the base of the sauce that seasons the Chex mix and makes it so yummy. However, if you are dairy-free, you can easily replace this with ghee or avocado oil and still get great results!
    • Tamari Traditionally, Chex mix uses Worcestershire sauce to get its classic savory flavor. Since Worcestershire sauce often contains gluten, artificial flavors and colors, and added sugar, we wanted to find an alternative. We found that tamari made for a great substitute. If you need to be soy-free, you can also use coconut aminos.
    • Seasonings The savory mixes both have a blend of salt, pepper, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, and parsley that help lend the perfect flavoring. The spicy mix gets a boost from hot pepper sauce and the honey nut snack mix is just a simple mix of honey and sea salt.

How To Make Maple Cayenne Chex Party Mix

Cheezy Chex Mix (Vegan, Gluten Free, Super Easy To Make)

Its so simple to make this sweet and spicy Chex party mix! All you need is to combine all of your mix-ins in a large bowl.

Then, you heat the maple syrup, vegan butter , vanilla, cinnamon, cayenne, and brown sugar in a saucepan.

Bring the mixture to a boil to let it cook for a bit until it thickens slightly. You want it to be thick, but not too thick.

Then, pour the sauce over the pretzel mixture and stir until its completely coated.

Spread out the Chex mixture on a baking sheet and bake in the oven for 20 minutes, stirring halfway through, until toasted and the sauce is set.

I love to use a silpat so the Chex mix can easily be transferred once its cool. You dont want the sauce to stick to your baking sheet and make a mess.

    Let cool and eat!

Can I Make Chex Mix In The Microwave Or Slow Cooker Instead

Yes! While we prefer the oven method, you can also make this homemade Chex mix in the microwave or slow cooker if you don’t have oven space. For the slow cooker add all of the ingredients to the slow cooker then toss to combine, and cook on low for 3 hours, making sure to stir every 45 minutes or so so that the mixture doesn’t burn. For the microwave, microwave the mix on high for 4-5 minutes, stirring every minute, until crisp.

    Other Chex Party Mix Ingredients

The other ingredients in the mix are typically gluten-free. Butter doesnt have gluten, and I purchase Worcestershire sauce that doesnt have gluten.

You can use whatever type of nuts you prefer, including mixed nuts.

However, as a southern girl whose parents and grandparents had pecan trees in the yard that was the most natural nut for me to use.

Unfortunately, we dont have pecan trees, so I have to buy them.

I add seasoned salt to bring out the flavor of all the ingredients. Even more important to my taste buds, I add cayenne pepper to give it a little extra zing.

Itll make you thirsty, but its always a good idea to drink more water anyway. So go for it!
