* 5 Gluten Free Pasta Tips * To Help You Cook It Perfectly

Use DOUBLE the amount of water

Use double the amount youd use for normal gluten free pasta. It makes the pasta less sticky/gloopy if you know what I mean?! I believe this works because gf pasta is starchier

Only add the pasta to the water once its *properly* boiling.

Its easy to get impatient and put it in when the water has jussttt started to simmer. Dont!!!! haha

Do the wiggle!!

As soon as your pasta is in the boiling water, reduce to a simmer and move the pasta around with a fork. Repeat this every couple of minutes to prevent it from sticking. Gluten free pasta is a clingy so-and-so.

Dont overcook it.

Over-cooked gluten free pasta tastes way worse than over-cooked normal pasta. Dont test it by the time on the packet eat it!

Add a little of your pasta water to the sauce.

Literally take 2-3 tbsp of the water your pasta has cooked in and add it to your sauce sounds weird, tastes delicious!

How To Make Ravioli:

Whisk the dry ingredients: stir together the flour and salt.

Stir in the eggs: Add in the eggs and use a fork to slowly stir in the flour. Once it gets too hard to stir with the fork, go in with your hands. Squeeze and knead the dough together until a ball forms. Then knead a few times on a well floured surface until the dough is smooth.

Divide and roll: Shape the dough into a ball and cut into quarters. Place one quarter on a lightly floured piece pf parchment and gently wrap the three remaining pieces in plastic to prevent them from drying. Roll, using a generous amount of flour until the dough is very thin. The thinner the better.

Cut the ravioli: Using a 2-inch biscuit cutter , cut discs out of the dough. You can also cut 2-inch squares using a knife. Form the scraps into a ball and repeat until all the dough is cut.

Add some filling: Take one round of pasta dough and place a heaping teaspoon of filling in the center. Brush egg wash around the edge and top with a second pasta round. Press gently with your fingers to seal and then crimp the edges with a fork.

Cook: Add the ravioli to a large pot of boiling salted water. Cook for about 2 minutes, until the pasta is al dente. Remove and add to your sauce of choice.

How do you feel about hosting dinner parties? Love it or hate it? Live for it or dread it?

I personally love dinner parties having get togethers where I can cook for friends and family, bringing people together of all ages at one dinner table is one of my favorite activities.

Growing up my parents frequently had friends over for dinner, with up to 10 people seated around the dinner table. Instead of going out to eat, weekends were spent socializing over home cooked meals. The houses would alternate with the host preparing the meal.

As I got older I started taking a more active role in the prep work for these dinner parties and now that Im fully grown and a self proclaimed foodie, whenever I come home to see my parents I become the dinner party host.

Hosting a dinner party can seem like a bit of a daunting and intimidating task, but it can all be handled seamlessly and with minimal stress with a bit of proper organization. Your menu needs to be thought through in advance and timed so that you can efficiently prepare all the dishes.

To Flatten The Pasta:

  • Kitchen Aid Pasta Roller – This was a huge time saver for me once I figured out you need to feed the pasta through multiple times to get it the right size. Note there are a lot of cheaper pasta rollers that will fit into your Kitchen Aid as well. The downside is that it doesn’t cut the pasta.
  • Pasta Roller – This is a great option if you do not own a standing mixer. This is an all in one and will roll the pasta flat, and has cutting attachments.
  • Rolling Pin – If you prefer, you can easily roll your pasta dough flat with a good rolling pin. It takes some muscle, but it is totally doable! You will also need this to roll the ravioli closed.

No Tomato Low Acid Pasta Sauce

This pasta sauce uses butternut squash and Italian herbs to mimic a traditional marinara sauce but without the acidity. Even though it is sweeter than tomatoes, butternut squash is a wonderful substitute. Add all the traditional herbs, spices and aromatics and you have a sauce that will make the house smell like pasta night.
