How To Make Gluten
This gluten-free version of chicken and rice soup is just as simple to make as the original! Just saute, combine, cook, and serve. Heres how to make it:
Saute the Vegetables: Saute the carrots, onion, and celery in butter, along with the herbs and spices. After a few minutes, add in the garlic and bay leaf. Finally, sprinkle in the rice flour and stir while it becomes golden.
Add the Broth: Gradually add in the chicken broth. Keep stirring until the mixture is smooth.
Add the Rice: Stir in the wild rice blend. Bring everything to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer the soup until the rice is tender.
Add the Chicken & Milk: Add the cooked chicken into the soup, followed by the milk or cream. Avoid letting it come to a boil as it heats through, as this may cause the dairy to separate!
Serve: Finish your wild rice soup by seasoning it to taste with salt and pepper. Dish up with a sprinkle of fresh chopped parsley, and serve!
Different Types Of Wild Rice
There are basically three different types of wild rice that most people are familiar with. Although they are all referred to as “wild”, only one can be considered a truly wild grain.
1) Natural Wild Rice – This is true wild rice that is harvested from naturally growing aquatic grass fields in slow moving streams, lakes and wetland locations. Real wild rice usually employs traditional Native American wildcrafting techniques and processing. It takes less time to cook than other types and develops a soft tender grain. It normally has different color variations ranging from light to dark brown, with a speckled appearance.
2) Cultivated Wild Rice – This is the commercially cultivated variety found in most grocery stores. Grown as a “paddy rice”, this type is more uniform in appearance and has been hybridized to eliminate some of the more difficult growing properties of the wild species. It is typically a chewier rice that takes longer to cook than natural varieties. It generally has a more uniform dark brown to black color due to different processing methods.
3) Mixed Wild Rice – This is a mix of different types of rice, which usually includes some cultivated wild variations.
While both wild and commercially grown rice are nutritious whole foods to consume, many believe that wild growing varieties are a more nutrient-rich and vigorous species, produced as nature intended. This is often the case with other wildcrafted edible foods like mushrooms, fruits, herbs and greens.

Wild Rice Recipe A Gluten
A savory homemade wild rice recipe provides a warm and hardy cooked meal in the cold months of winter. Whether relished by itself or mixed with other types of rice or gluten-free varieties, like quinoa or millet, it can be a robust and hardy as well as flavorful grain alternative.
Wild rice has a chewy fibrous texture compared to other rice variations. Being higher in protein content and lower in fat and starch, the grains are loose and not as sticky as white or brown rice.
Used a staple grain selection, wild rice can add diversity and keep ones diet varied and interesting. The cooked grain, being lower in carbs, doesn’t have a tendency to make you feel tired after a meal like high calorie grain varieties and can be a healthier choice for those looking to loose unwanted body weight.
It is not a complete protein source because it does not contain adequate amounts of all essential amino acids and is a good source of B vitamins like thiamine, riboflavin and niacin.
Wild rice seed itself is actually a type of aquatic marsh grass that comes from the genus Zizania, a distant cousin to the common rice we know today from the genus Oryza.
True wild rice is native to North America, especially the upper Great Lakes region of the U.S. and Canada and was a traditionally harvested food of many Native American Anishinaabe people indigenous to these regions.
Wild Rice Is One Of The Most Decadent Gluten
Wild rice is one of the gluten-free superfoods. It is thought to be the most decadent grain with its distinctive, nutty, earthy flavour. It actually isnt even rice, so it is gluten-free, which is good news for many of us.
It has become very popular in recent years, as it is so tasty, and because we have learned that it has an abundance of minerals and vitamins. The health benefits are mostly related to nutrition. There are not many scientific studies that are not done on animals so of course, I will not refer to them.

High Levels Of Arsenic Found In Rice Threatens Those Following A Traditional Gluten
Arsenic exposure and subsequent toxicity is a health problem affecting millions of people worldwide. Exposure to arsenic comes from several sources to include well water , contamination from mining and ore smelting, and from seafood . Arsenic can also be found in the following: grains , bottled water, coffee, processed juice, and beer. According to an investigation from Consumer Health Reports, the highest levels of this toxic metal are found in rice and rice gluten.
Most gluten-free food is made from either corn or rice. Both of these have been found to have arsenic in them. Particularly the rice is the higher of the two. Often times people believe that they are eating really well when in reality they are being exposed to arsenic.

The Best Vegan Gluten
Im a huge fan of Taboulleh salad, but its traditionally made with bulgur which is a wheat and, therefore, not gluten-free. I have played with different substitutions for bulgur and many work but, IMHO, I found wild rice works best. It adds a chewiness and nutty flavour that really brings it to another level. Plus wild rice is considered a complete protein as it contains all nine essential amino acids. Although Taboulleh was the inspiration for this vegan gluten-free wild rice salad, its definitely not Tabulleh.
I have added way more veggies to the mix to up the taste, texture and nutritional value of the salad. I also swapped lemon juice for red wine vinegar. It takes a bit of time to prep the vegetables, but its so well worth it. Its truly a meal in a bowl. And summer is the best time to enjoy the fresh vegetables in this healthy, vegan gluten-free wild rice salad with veggies.
How To Cook Wild Rice
Cultivated rice takes a lot longer to cook than natural wild rice and also requires less water. You can make both types as you would any kind of rice, in a pot or rice cooker, or you can follow traditional cooking methods.
It is generally a good practice to thoroughly rinse the rice before use. The grains can also be soaked for a period of time in water, strained and cooked using half the amount of required water.

Rice is one of the best foods to consider adding to your diet when you receive your diagnosis. Plain rice is naturally gluten-free and a great substitute for replacing cereal grains. Its the perfect accompaniment to many meals such as Indian and Mexican dishes.
Uncle Bens is one of the most popular rice brands worldwide, and its not difficult to see why. They dont just have a range of products, including sauces, dry rice, rice pots, and microwave rice but they all come in a variety of flavors too! But are they gluten-free? Lets take a look.
Its important to note that these products do not display a gluten-free label. This means that the products are not tested for gluten. So although none of the ingredients contain gluten, there is a chance of cross-contact. Cross contact is when products that do not contain gluten are prepared, packaged, and stored in the same area as gluten-containing foods. This will mean that the end product may contain traces of gluten.
However, celiacs and gluten intolerants can enjoy most flavors with no problems. According to The Gluten Free Bar, its rated 8/10 on their gluten-free confidence score. This is because although many flavors are safe, there are a few that do contain gluten. So always read labels carefully.
