Vegan Chocolate Cake Mix Brownies HACK – Vegan Gluten Free Baking Mix Hacks E:1

Per 1/12 serving: 150 calories, 1 gram fat , 75 milligrams sodium, 36 grams carbohydrates , 2 grams protein

For a crave-worthy cake that bakes up in 25 minutes or less, Foodstirs’s vanilla cake mix hits the spot. All ingredients are USDA-certified organic, and there’s only one gram of fat per serving.

Their mixes have less sugar than traditional boxed cake mixes, thanks to their proprietary FlexSweet blend of organic stevia, vegetable glycerin, inulin and erythritol.

Research suggests that erythritol doesn’t have an adverse effect on blood sugar or promotes tooth decay like regular sugar does, per the International Food Information Council Foundation.

Just beware that erythritol, like other sugar alcohols, may cause some digestive distress so don’t of overboard on these treats.

You’ll need three eggs, butter and some milk and yogurt to prepare the batter, so make sure you have these foods on hand when you’re ready to prepare this cake. Want to make it vegan? Foodstirs offers plant-based baking alternatives.

I made Julies recipe for Cinnamon Crunch Coffee Cake, and I was amazed at not only how easy it was to make, but how light and fluffy the cake baked up. I cant imagine anyone being able to guess that it was both vegan and gluten-free.

The Vanilla Cake Mix allows you to get creative and add whatever ingredients you like to turn it into carrot cake or raspberry cake or whatever floats your boat. I swirled in some melted chocolate to create a marble effect, then I frosted it with chocolate frosting and topped it with chocolate chips. The cake was moist and delicious.

Avoid Cake Mixes With Trans Fats

Some cake mixes pre-made frostings contain partially hydrogenated soybean oil and other artificial trans fats, which are used to extend the shelf life foods.

Trans fats are the worst kind of fats for your health and may contribute to heart disease and type 2 diabetes, according to the American Heart Association .

“While the nutrition facts panel may state that there’s no trans fat, partially hydrogenated oils contribute trans fat just at a level that’s low enough for it not to be listed,” Largeman-Roth says.

Food products that have 0 grams to less than 0.5 grams of trans fat per serving are allowed to state that they have zero grams of trans fat on the nutrition facts panel.

But you can limit trans fats in your diet by scanning the ingredients label of packaged foods for partially hydrogenated and hydrogenated oils.

“Look for mixes that call for the baker to add their own oil. I usually use extra-virgin olive oil or sometimes melted ghee or coconut oil,” Largeman-Roth says.

How To Veganize A Box Of Cake Mix

Vegan Packet Cake Mix – we make a cake from a Gluten Free Vegan cake mix

When I went vegan, I was surprised to learn about accidentally vegan products. Aka products I was already familiar and had no idea were vegan!

This is usually a happy accident because its not that the company is purposefully making vegan-friendly products, its just that they happen to be egg and dairy free.

Some of my favorite accidentally vegan products include Oreos, Swedish Fish, and a lot of the cake mixes I grew up with by brands like Dunkin Hines and Pillsbury.

Ive included a list of some easy to find vegan cake mixes below.

But thats just the half of it. What about the eggs and butter that the boxes tell you to add? Those certainly arent vegan!

Fear not, there are any ways to substitute eggs and dairy that yield the same light and fluffy cakes you know and love.

Coconut oil comes in two versions. Refined and virgin. Virgin is unfiltered and can be good in some recipes but I almost never buy it because it imparts a very strong coconut flavor. Refined on the other hand is great because it works with both sweet and savory dishes and does not interfere with the flavor.

It has a high smoke point and is delicious to use with everything from roasted veggies to chocolate chip cookies. I stock up and use it often.

Also use a liquid measuring cup for melted or liquid fats.

Country Crock, Earth Balance, and Miyokos make great vegan options.

Note: do not use whole flax seeds

What Can You Use As An Egg Replacement

When making these cookies you need to replace 2 eggs with an equal amount of a vegan egg replacement. I choose to use ground flaxseeds for mine, but here are a few other options that would work as well:

    • Ground Chia Seeds. To replace a single egg you need to mix 1 tbsp of ground chia seeds with 3 tbsp of water. Let it sit for 5 minutes to thicken up and then its ready to use.
    • Apple Sauce. To replace the eggs traditionally used in this recipe you can add 1/2 a cup of applesauce to the mix.
    • Bananas. You can replace the eggs traditionally used in the recipe with 1/2 a cup of banana. Which is around 1.5 bananas according to this calculator.

    Boost Fiber With Fresh Fruit

While there are cake mixes that use whole-wheat or almond flour, you’re going to be hard-pressed to find cake mix with fiber.
