What Classifies A Non
Before we get busy with the gluten-free non-alcoholic beer brewing process, lets first consider what classifies a non-alcoholic beer as gluten-free.
Irrespective of how the non-alcoholic beer is made, it must meet some FDA criteria before it can be labeled as gluten-free. The first and most important of these criteria is that the product contains less than 20 parts per million of gluten. Manufacturers often refer to this limit as 20mg/kg, which works fine too.
This gluten limit is the lowest that scientifically validated analytical methods can detect in products. Aside from the gluten limit, non-alcoholic beer may also be labeled gluten-free if it doesnt contain a gluten-containing grain, like wheat, barley, rye, or any of their crossbreeds. Also, if the non-alcoholic beer is free from ingredients that contain gluten, either naturally or removed artificially, it can be labeled as gluten-free.
Now to the tricky part. Manufacturers are not under any legal obligation to put a gluten-free label on their non-alcoholic beer products. If they put it, however, then the non-alcoholic beer must have met all the specified requirements by the FDA. So its basically like this they dont have to put it, but if they decide to, it must be gluten-free.
If you are particular about the gluten status of the non-alcoholic beer, you can always write to them and request a testing certificate.

Everything You Need To Know About Gluten Free Non Alcoholic Beer
Love beer but cant handle the high gluten content of most brews? Heres everything you need to know about gluten free beer, including how its made, why its better, and where you can find the best options.
All beer is different, particularly when it comes to craft options like the Grüvi IPA. However, every great beer starts with the same basic recipe water, hops, yeast, and a starch, like barley or wheat, which is where the gluten normally comes from.
Filtered water is important, as it gives a beer the purest flavor. At Grüvi, we only use filtered spring water for all of our bevs, which creates a clean foundation for the rest of the goodness that gets added next.
A true brew also relies on yeast and starch to ferment properly. While non-alcoholic beer is often made without any fermentation in order to avoid alcoholization, we lager our Golden for 6 weeks.
This allows the yeast to create a full-bodied flavor while staying below the 0.5% ABV threshold. Many other NA brands skip this step and use flavor additives to mimic the flavors of fermentation

Celiac.com 09/01/2021 – Wondering what beers are NOT gluten-free and unsafe for people with celiac disease?
We get a lot of questions from celiac community members wondering if certain products are gluten-free. One question we see a lot is about beers. Specifically, what beers are NOT gluten-free and unsafe for people with celiac disease? The short answer is that nearly every commercially available beer on the market is made with barley, which contains gluten, so unless special enzymes and filtering are used during the brewing process to render them gluten-free, would not be gluten-free.
Celiac.com Sponsor :We’ve written about gluten-free and gluten-removed beers. We’ve also written about individual non-gluten-free beers, such as Budweiser, but here’s an attempt too list as many non-gluten-free beers as possible. Consult wikipedia for a more complete list of traditional beers.
Which Drinks Dont Contain Gluten Or Alcohol
To be considered gluten-free a product must contain fewer than 20ppm of gluten. While many coeliacs are satisfied with this, some people will prefer to avoid gluten completely. The easiest way to do this can be to avoid all products containing wheat, rye, or barley. And remember that some gluten-free products may be made in a facility where gluten is present. It is important to note that there are not strict requirements for producers to test the gluten levels in their products in the UK, but if you are in doubt you should contact the producer directly and ask them to clarify the steps they take to ensure their product can be listed as gluten-free. I contacted a few when writing this article and they were all very happy to respond. For the most part, ciders, wines, sodas, kombuchas, and clear spirits are gluten-free. Its always worth double checking, but as a general rule you should be fine with these products.
Gluten-free and alcohol-free beers can be harder to find, but there are plenty available in a variety of styles if you know where to look. Here are a few of our favourites. You can see whats available in the UK at Wise Bartender.
