When you dont have an accurate thermometer to measure the temperature of cooking oil, it can be tricky to know just how hot is enough, and what is too hot for cooking oil. For this recipe, were aiming for a cooking temperature of 350 degrees.
If you add food to oil before the oil is fully heated, the food can soak up too much oil and get soggy. But if the oil is too hot, your food can burn without completely cooking though. It can be a delicate balance.
Heres how to eyeball it: I use the handle of a wooden spoon or a bamboo chopstick. Once the oil has preheated, dip the handle of a wooden spoon into the oil. If the oil starts steadily bubbling, then the oil is hot enough for frying. If the oil bubbles very, very vigorously, then the oil is too hot and needs to cool down a bit. You can also do this with a drop of batter.

As you may know, there are quite a few options for gluten free bread out there, but not all of them are completely allergy friendly. Many brands of gluten free bread contain egg, or are made in a facility that uses other allergens like dairy, nuts, or sesame.

How To Make Flourless French Toast Sticks
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Line a loaf pan with parchment paper and set aside.
In a bowl add butter and cream cheese and melt in microwave until melted.
In a blender, add the melted butter and cream cheese mixture along with eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon and sugar substitute. Blend until fully mixed together.
Pour mixture into prepared loaf pan and bake for 20-25 minutes or until the loaf is set and top is golden brown.
Remove from oven and allow to cool to touch. Cut loaf into slices.
Add butter to a large skillet and heat over medium-high heat.
Fry both sides of french toast sticks until each side is a golden brown color.
Serve with your favorite keto or sugar-free maple syrup and top with fruit if desired.

Either way, my gluten free French toast recipe is the perfect morning pick-me-up this festive season. I couldnt imagine it without Nutella too, my all-time favourite French toast buddy. A heaped teaspoon of Nutella is all you need to spread a little ray of sunshine onto your french toast.
Making gluten free French toast is so simple. First of all, you just beat together egg and milk in a shallow dish. Give your slices of bread a good dunk/soak in that mixture on both sides. Then, fry your soaked slices in rapeseed oil for the ultimate crispy, golden exterior. Easy peasy.
Then, spread 15g of Nutella on one side of your French toast and top with fresh banana. Place the other slice on top and your gluten free French toast sandwich is done!
Its hard to believe that gluten free bread could ever look this good, but you had better believe it! I then serve mine up with fresh berries and a mixture of toasted seeds for a little added fibre.

Making French Toast Sticks
This recipe is so easy to make that youll be enjoying French toast sticks again in no time!
To start, cut each slice of gluten-free bread into three long rectangles to make your sticks. Set aside.
Next, in a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk , ground cinnamon, and pure vanilla extract until well combined. Dip the bread sticks in the milk-egg mixture and coat it generously on both sides. Allow the bread sticks to bathe for a few minutes to soak in the wet mixture.

How Do You Make French Toast Sticks
Heres how I do it: In a small shallow dish I mix together cinnamon and sugar. I keep a shaker of cinnamon and sugar handy at all times for last minute cinnamon toast, so if you have one, that works well for this recipe too.
In another bowl, I make the batter. The batter for French Toast Sticks has more body than the batter for traditional French toast, because it contains flour and baking powder. Its basically a pancake batter that crisps up around the toast when its cooked.
I whisk the milk, sugar, eggs, salt, and vanilla until smooth. Then I add the flour and baking powder and whisk until all the lumps have dissolved. After that, Im ready to dip.
I dip the sticks into the batter in batches, about four at a time, then gently place them into the hot oil.
After the sticks are crispy and golden brown, I remove them from the oil and dredge them in the cinnamon and sugar mixture.
