Choosing The Right Vegan Cheese For Your Quesadilla
Vegan cheese a fickle beast. None of them emulate cheese perfectly, but some come pretty close. I would say they are all good at melting, which is what you want in a quesadilla.
If the flavor bothers you, only use a little bit to give you a melty texture and then add other ingredients to mask the flavor. This is how I normally use fake cheese. I mix in small amounts with other ingredients.
What Can You Use Them For
This product is so versatile and has many uses. Heres just a few suggestions that seem to work well:
- Pop in your favorite fillings and create the perfect cauliflower sandwich
- Add sauce and your favorite toppings and place in the over for a delicious mini pizza
- Heat them and drizzle with maple syrup
- Toast them and add your preferred taco fillings
- Wrap them up and eat as a tortilla
- Fry them and cut into cauliflower chips and dip them into a dip of choice
Bfree Quinoa And Chia Wraps
I first tried BFree products when you recommended that I try their packaged gluten free bread. As a general rule, I dont care for products with psyllium husk as an ingredient , but BFree uses it more effectively than others.
These wraps are soft and chewy, very flexible and are generously sized. They dont taste strange to me at all, but the quinoa and chia formulation wont appeal to everyone as its very natural seeming.
The problem with BFree is their availability. The only viable source for me is Glutenfreemall.com, and they recommend freezer-safe shipping when ordering frozen products, especially in the warmer months. That increases the shipping cost and pressures you to purchase other products at the same time for economies of scale.
That lack of availability means that I wasnt willing to purchase their plain wraps, as I could only find those in a large quantity on Amazon.com for a really awful price. I wasnt willing to commit to that, and I think most people would feel the same.

These are, hands down, the best tortillas I have ever had. And Im not just talking about Trader Joes tortillas, or grocery store restaurants Im including Mexican restaurant tortillas, homemade tortillas, etc. So good! I wish they sold them in Trader Joes on the west coast it seems like theyre only sold at east coast Trader Joes locations.
They make excellent quesadillas heated on the stovetop!

These are the best tortillas. The issue is that you have to travel to the east coast to get them, load up a suite case and pay the extra suite case charge to bring them back. They will tell you it has something to do with the regional bakery, but that cant be true. Im surprised you cant get these in LA.

I love the wraps. They are flavor full but not hot. The only problem is that they are no longer available at my local Trader Joes. So disappointed.

Trader Joes Brown Rice Gluten Free Tortillas
These brown rice tortillas are not great, but theyre still worth a spot on the list. Theyre relatively thick and dont roll without splitting at all. They sort of taste like health food, but they still have a good, hearty chew and flavor.
My children dont love these tortillas, but its good to know that you can grab a package at Trader Joes in a pinch. If I melted a bunch of cheese inside, theyd eat them. Theyre also less expensive than and very similar to the Food For Life brown rice tortillas, which are frozen and more costly.

After reviewing brands of gluten free bread and later brands of gluten free pasta, I asked those of you on my email list what I should review nextand for some of your favorite brands. Many, many of you responded and the general consensus was to review packaged gluten free tortillas.

Daiya Mozzarella Cutting Board Style Shreds
This is a great cheese because of how melted it gets. I dont think Daiya has the best flavor, but it does win in melted texture. Dont ever try to eat Daiya right out of the bag, trust me. Daiya needs to be melted for the flavors to really come alive.
Although Daiya is not good as a stand-alone cheese, it really does work great when you use just enough to add a good melty texture.

New Gf Tortillas With Quinoa Flour

Yes, I have tried them. They are great imo. I made GF enchiladas for the first time in four years since being GF and I was so thrilled! Can’t wait to get them again and make some quesadillas! They are a little firmer than flour tortillas, have just a LITTTTTTLE bit of a gummy texture, but not enough that I wouldn’t purchase again, and they don’t stick together as well when you roll them up like a flour tortilla . Overall, I would rate 7.5-8/10! You can find them where the other tortillas are in the bread section.

I find that online reviews of gluten free packaged products are often written from the perspective of good, for gluten free. Theyre not comparing the product to its conventional counterpart, but rather to previous experiences with gluten free products.
This list is for anyone who eats gluten free and wants to avoid wasting money on products that arent simply good, for gluten free . Since I live and work in New York, in the U.S., the product availability that I discuss is from that perspective. For being gluten-free, I thought these were perfectly edible. That may not sound like a ringing endorsement but so many gluten-free bready products end up crumbling apart or tasting pretty gross . I know that for tortillas, common corn tortillas are usually gluten-free, so theres not usually a shortage of options for the GF crowd when it comes to tortillas.
However, I miss regular flour tortillas, so I was curious about these.
As mentioned, not bad! The only downside was that they can be pretty chewy. But honestly, Ill take that over the type of gluten-free flour products that fall apart , and there was something almost appealing about it. Taste was perfectly fine, and theyre a large size and hold together really well.
Bottom line: Id buy it again!
