Growing up, my brother had life threatening food allergies to dairy, nuts, soy and more. At age three he went into anaphylactic shock after eating cookies that had peanuts in them but were not properly labeled. Back in the early 90s food allergies were not well understood by most people because they were not as common. Every Halloween my mom would give out allergy friendly treats to the neighbors to give my brother. She would tell them what my brother would be dressed up as so that when he rang their doorbell they knew to give him his special allergy-friendly treat. This way he didnt feel different from the other trick or treaters. So sweet, right!? We would get back home and dump all our candy out and he mostly had fruit roll ups and other non-chocolate candies. Back then, I ate all the things and didnt develop/recognize my food allergies and food sensitivities until much later in life. He would look at my pile of mostly chocolate candies and wonder a little but seemed mostly content with his stash. If only homemade candies were the norm back then! Andrew, this ones for you!

Here in America Ive never seen Kelloggs Gluten Free Rice Krispies, but I think in other countries they do offer them. For my gluten free rice crispy treats, I used to buy Erewhon Gluten Free Crispy Brown Rice Cereal, but they sadly no longer make that product . I found Natures Path Crispy Rice Cereal to be a suitable substitution .

UPDATE: A reader reminded me that Aldis brand of rice crispies are gluten free, as are Walmarts brand. So this should make it easy to find gluten free rice crispies.

  • Cut Lift the block out of the pan, then use a sharp knife to cut it into 12 bars. Enjoy immediately, and store leftovers separated by pieces of parchment paper. Keep them in the refrigerator up to 2 weeks, or freeze up to 3 months. Allow them to thaw a bit before enjoying!
