How Is This Oat Milk Creamy And Frothy

How to make Béchamel Sauce gluten-free with oat milk

The secret to this quick, 5-ingredient recipe is a blend of fatty ingredients instead of the pure oats and water blend. The special blend of oats, cashews, and coconut makes the ultimate dairy-free milk!

Cashews give a rich, creamy base, while coconut flakes add a bit of natural sweetness, the ingredients compliment the oats with a magical combination of flavor.

Whats more? Its oil-free, takes only 5 minutes to make, and heats, foams and froths beautifully, making it the perfect coffee companion!

Blend, strain and swoon over the rich, dairy-free milk the pours from the magical blend!

What Makes This Oat Milk Recipe Different

This recipe is formulated to foam, froth and heat up beautifully, the goal was to imitate the texture of Oatlys Barista Edition oat milk without the additives and preservatives.

The problem with plain oat milk is that it is less creamy, thickens and gets slimy when heated and also does not froth very well. You may not want a foam party in your hot tea, but that one sad latte situation.

Oatly Is Being Boycotted

Most vegan, supposedly earth-friendly brands like Oatly largely rely on their reputations as “ethical” companies. Younger, more politically active consumers are looking for ways to vote with their dollar, and they often don’t want to support brands that don’t take ethics seriously.

At first, Oatly seemed like it was on the right path. Some of the attraction to oat milk, after all, is the fact that it’s supposed to be better for the environment. However, Oatly is now in hot water after selling a stake of the company to Blackstone, a private equity consortium that has made headlines for alleged involvement in the deforestation of the Amazon. Additionally, its founder, Stephen Schwarzman, has reportedly donated to Donald Trump and the Republican party something else some Oatly consumers take issue with.

While Oatly has claimed the partnership was a measured decision they believed would lead to strides forward for the plant-based movement, many consumers aren’t buying it. Social media activists are taking to Twitter to explain why they won’t be buying Oatly’s products for now.

Oat milk is quickly becoming one of the more popular plant-based milks for everything from breakfast cereal to baking.

Plant milks made from nuts, seeds, coconut, rice, and soy are largely gluten-free, so you might expect the same from oat milk. However, if you have celiac disease or gluten sensitivity, oat milk may not be the best choice.

This article explains whether oat milk is gluten-free.

A Dietician’s Point Of View

Oatly Oat Milk Barista Edition Non

With coeliac disease it’s not just about eating gluten free food.

You have to be very careful about cross contamination – i.e. the tiniest flecks of gluten getting into your gluten free food.

So with shared steamers at coffee shops, what risk does this pose for people on a gluten free diet?

Gordon McAndrew is a Registered Gastroenterology Dietitian at NHS Lanarkshire.

He works as part of the only Gastroenterology Dietetic service permanently funded in Scotland, which sees patients with IBS and coeliac disease.

Mr McAndrew explains that generally patients with coeliac disease are advised to continue eating gluten free oats when first diagnosed.

But this is best done under the guidance of a dietician, so any symptoms can be monitored.

When it comes to coffee shops, Mr McAndrew advises people with coeliac disease to ask as may questions as needed to establish if they think it is safe.

“We always advise patients with coeliac disease to be mindful when eating out,” says Mr McAndrew.

“This is the same if considering oat milk use in coffee shops.

“You should make it clear you have coeliac disease and ask about cross-contamination practices in store.

“If they cannot tell you they have taken all necessary precautions or you are in doubt – it’s best to avoid.

“The risk of cross contamination can be minimised by taking good precautions.”

What Are The Health Benefits Of Drinking Oat Milk

Nicole Magryta, RDN, author of Nourish Your Tribe, says most oat milks contain one to three grams of fiber per serving , but also contain more calories and carbohydrates. In other words, you’re kind of coming out even unless you’re buying fortified oat milk from a supermarket.

“The health benefits of the milk itself are not necessarily from the oats and water, which offer marginal benefits, but from the fortified nutrients added during processing,” says Magryta. ” vitamins A, D, B12, B2 and calcium are added so the product can be a close nutritional substitute for dairy milk.”

What about homemade, unfortified oat milk is there any point to drinking it? Yes, but mostly only if you need to avoid cow’s milk because of an allergy or want to support a more sustainable alternative, says Magryta. Because sensitivities or allergies to oats are uncommon, oat milk gives people with dietary restrictions on soy, dairy, or nuts another beverage alternative.

Is Oat Milk Gluten Free

Milk Alternative for Barista | Oat Milk Gluten Free, Sugar Free Milk

To understand if oat milk is gluten free, you must first understand how its made and why oats are a controversial subject in the gluten-free community.

Oat milk is made by soaking oats in water, pulverizing the oats it in a blender and then straining it to create a creamy, milk-like substance.

While oats are naturally gluten-free, oats are notoriously cross contaminated with wheat. In fact, oats are grown on the same fields at wheat and the same equipment is used to harvest, manufacturer and store the oats.

This is why oat milk is not gluten-free, unless otherwise specified by the manufacturer. In other words, unless the manufacturer is using gluten-free oats to create its oat milk, you should avoid it if you follow gluten-free diet.

Why Are Oatly Suing Glebe Farm

Oatly claims the brand name and packaging of PureOaty is too similar to its own Having examined both the brands and packaging I would have to disagree, on so many counts.

I am so cross about this. Im disappointed. I love Oatly, at least I used to. I have Oatgurt in my fridge, Oatly ice cream in my freezer, and both the Whole oat and chocolate milk from Oatly. I have Oatly Cream and Custard. But Oatly, you might have just lost a loyal and passionate customer over this.

And Im one of those annoying people who will keep telling others.

I think Oatly are bullies. Greedy. Trying to use their status and clout as the bigger brand to push out an already established smaller oat milk brand. As Oatly prepare to establish their own factory here in the UK, this cant be a coincidence.
