We Would Take The Shot When We Craved Sugar Most
Instead of grabbing a chunk of chocolate when that sugar monster craving overcame us, we agreed instead that we would drink an apple cider vinegar shot.
This ground rule is reminiscent of something my friend, Andrea, does. She said every time she craves something sweet, she first eats a carrot. This helps to curb her cravings and nourish her body before indulging.
Is Wine Vinegar Gluten
As the name suggests, wine vinegar is derived from wine. Milder and less acidic than their contemporaries, both red wine vinegar and white vinegar are what bring life to salads and sauces. Being a staple of Mediterranean cooking, a sprinkling of wine vinegar is also often used to amp up pasta dishes. We also use it to make Chimichurri Sauce, Coleslaw Dressing, Tzatziki, or Sofritas.
While wine vinegar is essentially gluten-free, it always does well to read through the ingredients to make sure there are no added gluten-containing substances.

Ways To Use Apple Cider Vinegar Salad Dressing
I tend to stick to the obvious salads but you could use it in all sorts of healthy recipes instead of a store-bought or another, more time-intensive, homemade dressing. For example, marinate meat, drizzle over fresh or grilled sliced veggies, toss with shredded carrots and broccoli stems for a quick slaw, or fold into potato salad.

Though apple cider is naturally gluten-free, cross-contamination may occur if the cider is processed in facilities in which gluten-containing beverages are brewed or bottled.
Sometimes gluten-based yeast is used in the fermentation process. Hence, some hard apple ciders may contain traces of gluten. Though the gluten content is usually low, these hard ciders are not completely gluten-free and should be avoided by celiac and people suffering from severe gluten-intolerance.
If the apple cider you are about to drink is not labeled as gluten-free, it is advisable to take your time and make further research before drinking it .
To sum up
Whether you are celiac, gluten-intolerant, or you simply want to switch to a gluten-free diet as a lifestyle option, apple cider makes a great choice. Apple cider is naturally gluten-free.
However, since it may contain traces of gluten or may be subject to cross-contamination, we highly recommend to carefully check the labels before drinking it . Or, if you prefer, you can make your own delicious gluten-free apple cider!

Theres likely a large fat cap running along one side of the pork. You can leave this on or, if its very thick, you can trim it off with a large paring knife. You do want some fat to make sure the meat stays moist so try not to trim all of it away.
Coat the pork with the spices. Really rub it in to every nook and cranny and be sure to get every side of the pork, including the ends.

How To Make Apple Cider Vinegar Dressing
Youll make this vinaigrette using similar basic ingredients that are in any homemade salad dressing:
- Oil: Extra virgin olive oil, in this case, although you can use avocado oil instead, if you want.
- Vinegar: Apple cider, obviously
- Sweetener: honey or maple syrup optional
- Dijon mustard: this helps to prevent the oil and vinegar from separating
- Seasoning: salt, pepper, garlic, and paprika
As for how to actually make the dressing, youre going to laugh. Ready? Put it all in a mason jar, or another pour-able container with a tight lid, and shake it up just until everything has mixed . Youre done!
This recipe doubles, and even triples, quite well, and keeps in the cabinet or pantry for several months at a time. Since none of the ingredients are refrigerated, the dressing does not need to be kept chilled either.

Is Balsamic Vinegar Gluten
Its a must that balsamic vinegar be prepared either partly or fully from fresh grape juice. Usually made from the Trebbiano and Lambrusco varieties, the entire fruit, including the stem and skin, is placed into a wooden casket. The vinegar is then aged to a dark concentrate with a tart and nutty flavor.
The traditional method of preparation involves aging the vinegar for a minimum of 12 years. Its then no wonder why this truly balsamic vinegar has a complex taste and is even sipped alone as a palate cleanser! This type is made with a 100% concentration of grape must and contains no additives, rendering it gluten-free. However, it is also true that traditional balsamic vinegar is quite expensive and difficult to come by.
Commercially-made balsamic vinegar of Modena, on the other hand, needs only to be aged for two months, is much lighter in taste, and is mostly only used as a glaze. Containing only a small percentage of must , this vinegar is inexpensive and easily found in local supermarkets. However, it should be noted that the lower the quality of balsamic vinegar, the higher the number of additives, increasing the risk of one of them containing gluten.

My Daily Apple Cider Vinegar Shot Challenge
Has someone ever told you to try apple cider vinegar to soothe your sour tummy? Does it work? In this post, I talk about what happened after I took a shot of apple cider vinegar for seven days. This post was originally sponsored by Ethans but has been updated to reflect new information. Please see my disclosures and disclaimers.
A few months ago I wrote about the 8 surprise benefits of apple cider vinegar. I discussed how ACV has been used for centuries as a natural elixir, yet I also expressed frustrations with the lack of research to back these centuries old health claims.
For the past seven years, since my celiac disease diagnosis, Ive been on a journey to understand how I can not only improve my health, but also how I can promote health and deter disease.
If youve followed my journey, you know Ive been vocal about how Ive put my celiac disease into remission and healed my body. But its a daily struggle, and I have to work on my health every day. Its not something that comes easy to me or most people.
Over the years Ive heard good things about apple cider vinegar. I wanted to put it to the test to see if it lived up to the hype.

Is Malt Vinegar Gluten
While the distillation process usually leaves vinegar containing gluten well below the 20 ppm as recommended by the FDA, the simple and unfortunate fact of the matter is that malt vinegar is not distilled.
Final consensus, you ask? Being derived from the gluten-containing grain barley, malt vinegar is not gluten-free. Its best to just skip this one altogether and try another variety of vinegar instead.

Claim #: Acv Aids In Controlling Blood Sugar
Acetic acid has been shown to block the production of enzymes that digest starch. A study published by Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice found that vinegar consumption can reduce the glucose response in humans after a meal, and will result in a lower blood sugar response after eating a starchy meal.
Another study found that consuming vinegar during a high-glycemic meal significantly reduced the blood sugar response post-meal, and the American Diabetes Association found that administering vinegar to diabetes patients post-meal resulted in a significant lowering of a patients post-meal blood glucose levels.
What this means for you: While apple cider vinegar wont cure diabetes, it has been shown to aid in moderately lowering blood glucose levels. People with diabetes should speak with the doctor before adding apple cider vinegar to their diets as it has been known to interact with some medications. Furthermore, it has been proven that acetic acid creates a lower blood sugar response after meals . This might help you feel fuller longer as your body will more slowly digest food and your blood sugar wont crash as quickly after a meal.
Claim #: Apple Cider Vinegar Promotes Weight Loss
A study published in Bioscience, Biotechnology and Biochemistry found that acetic acid, a key component of apple cider vinegar, suppresses body fat accumulation in animal studies. The study concluded that a daily intake of vinegar might be useful in the prevention of metabolic syndrome by reducing obesity.
Other researchers investigated the effects of vinegar intake on the body mass of obese Japanese. In this double-blind, 12-week human study, subjects were randomly assigned to three groups. One group ingested 500 ml daily of a beverage which either contained 15 ml of vinegar, 30 ml of vinegar, or no vinegar .
Researchers found that the body weight, BMI, visceral fat area, waist circumference, and serum triglyceride levels were significantly lower in both vinegar intake groups than in the placebo group.
Based on these studies, 1-2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar each day may aid in helping you lose weight, reducing your body fat and decreasing your blood triglycerides .
What this means for you: Yes, apple cider vinegar has been scientifically linked to weight loss and reduced body fat. That said, the loss is modest, so I dont recommend giving up your gym membership in lieu of an apple cider vinegar shot.
