Observe the behaviour of your child at the end of the 30-day trial. If you notice a significant change in the behaviour of your child, with no complaints of abdominal pain, irritability then you should continue the gluten-free diet further. In between if there is even a little gluten consumption there can be a variety of symptoms, tantrums that may continue for days to weeks. The symptoms of gluten intolerance can be digestive or otherwise. They vary according to age and arent the same in all children. Its important to be familiar with the symptoms in order to make a correct diagnosis as early as possible. Because of this, wed like to go through the different symptoms which can help you know if your child is gluten intolerant.
Symptoms Of Gluten Sensitivity
Compared to people with celiac disease, people with NCGS have more symptoms that are not gastrointestinal in nature. The symptoms may also appear hours to days after consuming gluten. Here are some of the symptoms of gluten sensitivity:
- “Brain fog.” This is the most common characteristic of gluten sensitivity. Kids with brain fog may often feel tired, or like they just got out of bed. They may be especially forgetful, and may have trouble focusing or completing tasks.

The High Costs Of Missed Diagnosis
In all, Billy saw eight specialists. By the time a rheumatoid arthritis specialist threw up his hands, the teen couldnt even throw a football with his dad. At no time did anyone ask if there was a history of celiac disease in his family. While his mom, Mary Buhring, has the disease, she didnt think to mention it to the doctors because she didnt know that it was hereditary and that her children should have been screened.
In fact, the possibility wasnt raised until the following year, when Billy was seeing a chiropractor. In one of the sessions, I mentioned that my mom has celiac disease, he recalls. The chiropractor asked if I had it. I said, I have no idea. He said it would be a good idea to be tested.
