What To Serve With These Paleo Meatballs

Amazing Gluten Free & Dairy Free Meatballs | (Make It)

Treat these babies like you would any ol meatball! Serve on a bed of grain-free pasta, some creamy mashed cauliflower, or spaghetti squash with your favorite or pesto as an alternative to traditional spaghetti and meatballs.

And you can always keep it simple by serving them as an entrée with any of these delicious sides:

Why You Need This Recipe

  • If youre a fan of meal planning this is the perfect recipe to double or triple since ground beef is usually cheaper in bulk. Freeze all the leftovers and in a pinch throw on cooked spaghetti squash with your favorite jarred marinara sauce for the easiest weeknight meal ever.
  • Theyre gluten-free and dairy-free! Gluten-free comfort foods are surprisingly simple to make including these homemade meatballs.
  • Theyre baked which means less mess and you can cook them all at one time. Baked meatballs are just as juicy and flavorful as pan-frying them. This is my favorite way of making this gluten-free meatball recipe.

How To Shape The Meatballs

Meatballs will cook more evenly if they are the same size. I use an ice cream scoop that holds 3 tablespoons to form them. These end up being about 2-ounce meatballs after cooking which are a pretty good size.

When youre forming the meatballs, you dont need to pack the scoop tightly with the turkey mixture. If the meatball is packed too tightly and dense, your meatballs might get a more chewy texture.

Pack the meat tightly enough to stick together and youll be good to go!

Can I Freeze These Meatballs

Yes! These are great to freeze and that is one of the reasons I make a larger batch.

To freeze, place wax paper in a freezer-safe container and line the meatballs up so they are not touching. Use another piece of wax paper to add a layer on top. After theyre frozen , I like to transfer them to a gallon size freezer bag for more compact storage.

To thaw them, put them in a skillet with about ½ cup of water and cook over medium low heat covered for 10-15 minutes. You might want to add a little more sauce to them after they are warm and put them under the broiler for a couple of minutes before serving.

You can easily replace the butter with ghee or your favorite dairy-free alternative. You can also use a dairy-free milk/ cream. The flavor might be altered depending on what you replace it with, so choose a mild alternative.

Make sure you watch your temperatures using a dairy-free alternative as the higher heats can cause them to separate and not yield a thick creamy sauce. Let it go low and slower for the best results.

Gluten Free Dairy Free Swedish Meatballs

This dairy free Swedish meatball sauce is probably what makes these gluten free meatballs mouthwatering. I know people are fretting about Ikeas Swedish meatballs but I actually never tried them due to my food sensitivities.

Unlike the authentic Swedish meatballs recipe that uses spices like all spice and nutmeg, my recipe is a little different. Its a hybrid of flavors and spices from and the white dairy free Swedish meatball sauce is adapted to meet gluten free and dairy free dietary restrictions.

I also left out the lingonberry jelly, mixing the dish with sugar its not a wise decision, but in the end its your choice!

While the gluten free meatballs are quite easy to make, the dairy free Swedish meatball sauce needs a little bit more customization to achive a similar taste to the authentic Swedish meatball sauce.

The combination of coconut cream, a touch of tangy brown mustard and a rich beef or chicken stock actually makes a delicious dairy free gravy. The addition of seasonings and coconut aminos brightened up the flavor considerably. To thicken the sauce I used some cassava flour.

Can You Make Egg Freedairy Free Swedish Meatballs

People usually add eggs to their meatballs because they will provide moisture and binding properties. The eggs will make the meatballs more spongy and a little bit denser. I like my dairy free Swedish meatballs with 1 egg, just enough to act as a binder. I think the meat contains enough protein for one meal.

I also tried these gluten free dairy free Swedish meatballs without egg and they didnt fall apart, they were just a little bit tougher in texture but still delicious! So yes, you can definitely make gluten free Swedish meatballs without egg.

How Do You Cook Turkey Meatballs In The Oven

I love baking my turkey meatballs because I dont have to babysit them, and it is still pretty quick. I often pop them in the oven and then will play with the kids or help them with homework.

For easy clean-up, I always line my baking sheet with aluminum foil. A little drizzle of oil will help to keep the turkey meatballs from sticking, and will help them to brown.

If you use parchment paper instead, you may not need to use any oil because the parchment paper will prevent them from sticking.

To promote even browning, plan to give your turkey meatballs a little flip about half-way through.

To bake turkey meatballs in the oven:

Preheat your oven to 375°f and line a baking pan with parchment paper or aluminum foil.

Place your turkey meatballs on the prepared baking sheet with an inch or so in between .

Bake for 10 minutes, flip, and then bake for another 6-10 minutes or until they are cooked through. They will reach an internal temperature of 165°f and be lightly golden.

Roll The Mixture Into Meatballs

How Do You Cook Turkey Meatballs In A Pressure Cooker Or Instant Pot

My hands-down favorite way to cook turkey meatballs is in my Instant Pot. Why? It is super quick and easy.

The meatballs also impart a great flavor to the sauce, and the sauce flavors the turkey meatballs.

Clean up is super easy! Also, you can cook frozen-raw meatballs in the same time as you would cook raw meatballs.

If Im making spaghetti, I will pour in one jar of pasta sauce.

If Im making Teriyaki or Barbecue turkey meatballs, Ill do 1-2 cups of sauce.

You need at least one cup for the pressure cooker to come up to pressure properly, and safely.

To cook turkey meatballs in a pressure cooker or Instant Pot:

Pour at least one cup of your favorite sauce into your pressure cooker.

Add your turkey meatballs to the sauce and set your Instant Pot or electric pressure cooker to manual 10 minutes on high pressure.

When finished, release pressure with either the natural or quick release method.

These Gf Swedish Meatballs Meatballs Are A Little Different

The meatballs have a touch of allspice , and a whole grated onion. That perfumes the whole mixture.

And of course, they have a mixture of ground pork and ground beef. But Ive swapped out the ground pork with ground chicken and even ground turkey with good results, so the meat mixture isnt as crucial.
