How To Properly Store These

Once you slice the bars, transfer them to airtight containers to be stored in the fridge or freezer. I highly recommend placing a sheet of parchment paper in between layers to prevent them from sticking together.

    Making these bars couldnt be any easier. So grab your baking pan and lets get cooking.

  • Prep. Preheat your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Then line an 8×8 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  • Mix. Toss and mix all the nuts, dried fruit, seeds, and salt in a bowl.
  • Combine. Stir together the vanilla extract and maple syrup in a separate small bowl. Then pour the liquid over the nuts and give it all a stir, until its well coated.
  • Flatten. Pour the mixture into a baking pan and flatten into an even layer using a large spoon.
  • Bake & Cool. Let it bake in the oven for 30-35 minutes. Once done, let it cool in the pan for one hour .

    Generally, trail mix is viewed as a nutritious and healthy snack. Its got a hefty dose of nuts and seeds, providing plenty of healthy fats and carbs. And a little sweetness from dried fruits such as cranberries, raisins, or blueberries, which are a great source of vitamins and antioxidants.

    But when you start adding yogurt pretzels, chocolate chips or marshmallows into the mix, it changes things a bit. These types of ingredients offer minimal nutritional benefits and quickly bring the sugar levels up. So its best to stick with a simple nut, seed and fruit base.

    Bars That Didnt Make The Cut

    Here are some popular granola bars that didnt stack up, and why:

    Clif Bars for a quick snack, I think Clif bars are far too high in sugar. 20 plus grams per bar? Its just too much! With brown rice syrup listed as the first ingredient in most of these bars, I really think theyre lacking in high-quality nutritional value for a snack but may be great if looking to fuel for activity!

    Kind Bars contain chicory. This oligosaccharide can contribute to GI distress, so avoid it during the elimination phase.

    There are a few Kind Bars that almost passed the test that I feel worth a mention since theyre SO close!. The Peanut Butter, Peanut Butter Berry, Vanilla Blueberry, and Oats & Honey bars all have honey in them however, I believe that honey is used fairly sparingly given how low down it is on the ingredient list, as well as the total amount of sugar in these bars. I would recommend avoiding these during the elimination phase. Once you have re-introduced, and know what you tolerate best and in what amounts, these are definitely worth a try as the sugar content is quite low likely meaning the fructose content is also low! Out of all granola bars these taste the best, and are good for reintroduction/maintenance phases of the low FODMAP diet.

    Luna Bars an off-shoot of Clif Bars again, quite high in sugar. On top of that, they often contain chicory root to boost up the fibre content, which is a high FODMAP ingredient. Avoid this bar.
