Let’s Get To The Recipe:

Gluten-Free Pasta! (Banza, Trader Joe’s Brown Rice Pasta)

Here is what you need:

  • Tomato Sauce of your choice – I picked spicy arrabbiata from Trader Joes
  • Fresh / Frozen Vegetables of your choice – I picked broccoli, bell peppers, and sweet onion
  • Spices – Garlic Powder, Italian Seasoning, Sea Salt
  • Vegetable Broth / Stock
  • Water
  • Pasta of your choice – Try to keep it to the classic 1.5 in size would all work great. I chose gluten-free brown rice & quinoa pasta from trader joes
  • Cheese – I used shredded pecorino and mozzarella.
  • Chili flakes – for topping if you like it spicy like me!

Because this Trader Joe’s pasta is made with lentils, it contains a lot of protein and fiber. It’ll fill you up for hours. “You also get other nutrients, like iron,” Gorin says. This one in particular provides 15 percent of your DV per serving.

  • Cook time: 5 minutes
  • Nutrition stats : 190 calories, 32 grams carbohydrates, 3 grams fiber, 13 grams protein, less than 1 gram sugar
  • Taste: Like the black bean pasta, this red lentil option has a heavy lentil taste. If you’re not a fan, it can easily be masked with hearty sauces, spices, and vegetables.
  • Texture: This red lentil pasta is still chewy, but not nearly as chewy as the black bean pasta. It holds its shape very well, making it easy to enjoy without worrying about it getting mushy.

This stuff is like oatmeal but 10 times better, made for all you superhumans. It’s full of wonderful grains, giving you the protein and fiber you need to conquer your day, but without a trace of the nasty gluten protein.

How To Store And Freeze Cauliflower Gnocchi

Once cooked, the gnocchi can be kept for 5 days in an airtight container. Reheat in a microwave-safe dish or in an oiled sauté pan until warmed through.

You can also freeze the uncooked dumplings for later use. Just spread them in a single layer on a parchment paper-lined sheet pan, freeze until hardened, then pack into a resealable plastic bag for storage.

Frozen gnocchi is good for about a month. You do not need to defrost it: just boil and youre ready to grub!

Right around the 8-minute mark, they seem to be at their primeâwhich is still pretty chewy, by the way. But considering they have 14 grams of protein per serving, it’s a quality I’m willing to deal with.

Trader Joes Gluten Free Pasta Review

The first time I saw Trader Joes gluten free pasta , I never noticed that it stated it was gluten free. I love their penne pasta! At the top of the package it was prominently labeled organic, wheat-free, cholesterol-free and sodium-free, but not gluten-free. It is even certified organic and certified Kosher. I was concerned that it may contain cross-contamination and did not want to recommend it to my clients and readers who have a high gluten intolerance. However, I gave it a try and was very pleased with the texture, flavor and reasonable price.

I emailed Trader Joes and asked whether it was gluten-free and more, and by the next day I noticed the gluten-free symbol at the bottom right-hand corner on the front of the package.

I was chatting with a few ladies in my class the other day about cooking for their gluten-free children. Whereas it is certainly easier to find gluten-free alternatives today than it was 10 years ago, apparently cooking gluten-free pasta is still tricky for many people. So I promised them that I would write a post ASAP. Voila!

As you know, I am not gluten-free and neither is my husband nor my kids. BUT, because gluten is a pro-inflammatory protein and usually in a lot of processed food, I do limit our gluten to no more than one serving a day. I also think its important to have as much variety in our diet as possible to expose yourself to the benefits of many different foods, so thats another reason I try to mix it up a little in the pasta department and work some gluten-free options into our meals.

I grew up eating a lot of pasta. My father is from Italy and my mother is Italian-American. So I know how to cook traditional durum wheat pasta with my eyes closed. But gluten-free pasta is not the same. It can be starchy, sticky, clumpy and lose its shape if you cook it the same way as regular wheat pasta. So I wanted to share my technique that I have used successfully for many years. Keep in mind that different brands and especially different flour blends will take different amounts of time, but the technique is the same. Here goes:

Boil plenty of water.

Add 1 Tablespoon of kosher salt.

Trader Joes sells many gluten free cereals. In addition to the Neopolitan flavor, they also sell Maple Ladders and Cocoa Crunch Cereal, and Crispy Quinoa Stars. Please note that their O cereals are not on their gluten free list.

I fell in love with this years ago after my first visit to Trader Joes. It contains no oats, which Im sensitive to. Trader Joes also sells oats specifically labeled gluten free. I love chocolate and thats why I was relieved to find out that the Trader Joes Pound Plus Dark Chocolate bars do not contain gluten. The title alone might have you a bit perplexed as pasta in the traditional sense involves wheat. But one of the things I discovered as Shani and I started this gluten free journey is that Trader Joes carries 3 different shapes of rice pasta as well as traditional Asian rice noodles. For this dish, I prefer the spiral pasta, as its more reminiscent of pasta salads Ive had in the past. I also think the surface area allows this shape to get more of the flavors and hold onto the balsamic.

Ingredients used:

  • 1 medium zucchini, diced
  • 1/3 cup Trader Joes Frozen Super Sweet Cut Corn

Get The Party Started

The first thing to do is get the water boiling for the pasta. Rice pasta seems a bit more finicky than regular pasta, so keep an eye on the time and I try and check for done-ness a lot. Out of habit, I also rinse the cooked pasta with cold water to keep it from sticking. I dont notice a difference between adding salt to the water or not. Maybe Alton Brown could explain the pros and cons of doing that here.
