Let’s Get To The Recipe:
Here is what you need:
- Tomato Sauce of your choice – I picked spicy arrabbiata from Trader Joes
- Fresh / Frozen Vegetables of your choice – I picked broccoli, bell peppers, and sweet onion
- Spices – Garlic Powder, Italian Seasoning, Sea Salt
- Vegetable Broth / Stock
- Pasta of your choice – Try to keep it to the classic 1.5 in size would all work great. I chose gluten-free brown rice & quinoa pasta from trader joes
- Cheese – I used shredded pecorino and mozzarella.
- Chili flakes – for topping if you like it spicy like me!
Organic Red Lentil Sedanini
Because this Trader Joe’s pasta is made with lentils, it contains a lot of protein and fiber. It’ll fill you up for hours. “You also get other nutrients, like iron,” Gorin says. This one in particular provides 15 percent of your DV per serving.
- Cook time: 5 minutes
- Nutrition stats : 190 calories, 32 grams carbohydrates, 3 grams fiber, 13 grams protein, less than 1 gram sugar
- Taste: Like the black bean pasta, this red lentil option has a heavy lentil taste. If you’re not a fan, it can easily be masked with hearty sauces, spices, and vegetables.
- Texture: This red lentil pasta is still chewy, but not nearly as chewy as the black bean pasta. It holds its shape very well, making it easy to enjoy without worrying about it getting mushy.
Ancient Grain And Superseed Oatmeal
This stuff is like oatmeal but 10 times better, made for all you superhumans. It’s full of wonderful grains, giving you the protein and fiber you need to conquer your day, but without a trace of the nasty gluten protein.
#SpoonTip: I love mixing it with warm almond milk and topping it with fruit or jam.

How To Store And Freeze Cauliflower Gnocchi
Once cooked, the gnocchi can be kept for 5 days in an airtight container. Reheat in a microwave-safe dish or in an oiled sauté pan until warmed through.
You can also freeze the uncooked dumplings for later use. Just spread them in a single layer on a parchment paper-lined sheet pan, freeze until hardened, then pack into a resealable plastic bag for storage.
Frozen gnocchi is good for about a month. You do not need to defrost it: just boil and youre ready to grub!
Organic Black Bean Rotini
Black beans are already loaded with vitamins and minerals, so you can’t go wrong in pasta form. “Black bean pasta offers an impressive amount of protein and satiating fiber,” says Amy Gorin, MS, RDN, owner of Amy Gorin Nutrition in New York. “You also get an excellent amount of iron and potassium, as well as a good amount of calcium.”
- Cook time: 8 minutes
- Nutrition stats : 200 calories, 35 grams carbohydrates, 15 grams fiber, 14 grams protein, 2 grams sugar
- Taste: They taste exactly like black beans. So if you like black beans, you’re golden. If not, grab your favorite sauce and add in some veggies. They easily soak up the flavor for a less intense flavor.
- Texture: It’s very easy to overcook these noodles. If you don’t stick to the recommended cooking times, they’ll be mushy. Right around the 8-minute mark, they seem to be at their primeâwhich is still pretty chewy, by the way. But considering they have 14 grams of protein per serving, it’s a quality I’m willing to deal with.

Yellow Lentil And Brown Rice Spaghetti
This pasta combines protein-packed lentils with fiber-packed brown rice in the best way. Because it’s made up of 90 percent yellow lentils and 10 percent brown rice, it not only holds its shape better, but it’s tastier, too, especially for anyone who’s new to lentils.
- Cook time: 6 minutes
- Nutrition stats : 190 calories, 32 grams carbohydrates, 3 grams fiber, 14 grams protein, 1 gram sugar
- Taste: Thanks to the brown rice, the lentil flavor in this pasta is very mild. It also soaks up flavors very well, making it the perfect option for tomato sauces, Alfredo, or pesto.
- Texture: Since the lentils are combined with brown rice, the texture is really good. It easy to achieve al dente without too much chewiness.

Trader Joes Gluten Free Pasta Review
The first time I saw Trader Joes gluten free pasta , I never noticed that it stated it was gluten free. I love their penne pasta! At the top of the package it was prominently labeled organic, wheat-free, cholesterol-free and sodium-free, but not gluten-free. It is even certified organic and certified Kosher. I was concerned that it may contain cross-contamination and did not want to recommend it to my clients and readers who have a high gluten intolerance. However, I gave it a try and was very pleased with the texture, flavor and reasonable price.
I emailed Trader Joes and asked whether it was gluten-free and more, and by the next day I noticed the gluten-free symbol at the bottom right-hand corner on the front of the package.
First and foremost, thank you for taking the time to contact us, and please accept my apology for our delay in response time. We experienced an unexpectedly high volume of calls and emails this holiday season, and we are still playing catch-up but that is no excuse.
Trader Joes brown rice pastas are all made in a facility that contains no gluten whatsoever, which is why we feel safe in making the claim that these products arent just no gluten ingredient products but, in fact, gluten-free. We also test, just to back up that claim further.
We hope this helps, and we hope you enjoy the pasta, Carla!

- Meat and seafood. It’s so much more expensive, and honestly, I think the packages don’t have a ton in them, Greutman says especially the chicken.
- Organic milk.
Keeping this in view, is Trader Joe’s actually healthy?
The quality and taste of TJ’s products are great so it is the quality/price ratio. Shopping at Trader Joes is a good start. While many of the food options at Trader Joes are both good and good for you, it is easy to get fooled by items that initially seem healthy but are high in calories, fat, or sugar.

Spaghetti $0.99I kid you not: Trader Joe’s 99 cent spaghetti comes straight from Italy and it is literally the best dry pasta I have eaten in my life.
Organic Pasta Vegetable Radiatore
If there was a “most fun to eat award,” it would go to this alt-pasta option. You feel like a kid again eating colorful noodles that get their hues from spinach, beets, and red bell peppers. “Pastas made with veggies like spinach and beets are popping up in grocery stores,” Gorin says. “Unlike many of the other alternative pastas, these pastas aren’t always gluten-free, but you do get whole grains, protein, and fiber, as well as nutrients like iron and vitamin A.”
- Cook time: 9 minutes
- Nutrition stats : 200 calories, 41 grams carbohydrates, 2 grams fiber, 7 grams protein, 1 gram sugar
- Taste: I loved the taste of this pasta. Even though each serving gets you closer to hitting your DV of important nutrientsâincluding 4 percent of vitamin A, 2 percent of vitamin C, 2 percent calcium, and 8 percent ironâyou can’t taste the veggies at all.
- Texture: Because it’s made from wheat, the texture is exactly like that of typical pastas. It becomes perfectly al dente and is delicious with pesto, tomato-based saucesâbasically anything you want to pair it with.

How To Perfectly Cook Gluten
September 27, 2015By Pamela
I was chatting with a few ladies in my class the other day about cooking for their gluten-free children. Whereas it is certainly easier to find gluten-free alternatives today than it was 10 years ago, apparently cooking gluten-free pasta is still tricky for many people. So I promised them that I would write a post ASAP. Voila!
As you know, I am not gluten-free and neither is my husband nor my kids. BUT, because gluten is a pro-inflammatory protein and usually in a lot of processed food, I do limit our gluten to no more than one serving a day. I also think its important to have as much variety in our diet as possible to expose yourself to the benefits of many different foods, so thats another reason I try to mix it up a little in the pasta department and work some gluten-free options into our meals.
I grew up eating a lot of pasta. My father is from Italy and my mother is Italian-American. So I know how to cook traditional durum wheat pasta with my eyes closed. But gluten-free pasta is not the same. It can be starchy, sticky, clumpy and lose its shape if you cook it the same way as regular wheat pasta. So I wanted to share my technique that I have used successfully for many years. Keep in mind that different brands and especially different flour blends will take different amounts of time, but the technique is the same. Here goes:
Boil plenty of water.
Add 1 Tablespoon of kosher salt.

Gluten Free Chicken Pasta Salad With Balsamic
The title alone might have you a bit perplexed as pasta in the traditional sense involves wheat. But one of the things I discovered as Shani and I started this gluten free journey is that Trader Joes carries 3 different shapes of rice pasta as well as traditional Asian rice noodles. For this dish, I prefer the spiral pasta, as its more reminiscent of pasta salads Ive had in the past. I also think the surface area allows this shape to get more of the flavors and hold onto the balsamic.
- 2/3 cup Trader Joes Frozen Broccoli Florets
- 1 medium zucchini, diced
- 1/3 cup Trader Joes Frozen Super Sweet Cut Corn
- 4 Trader Joes Frozen Asparagus Spears
- 3 artichoke hearts , drained or defrosted and diced
- Trader Joes Organic Brown Rice Pasta Fusilli
- Trader Giottos Quattro Formaggio
- Trader Giottos Balsamic Vinegar of Modena, to taste
- Johnnys Seasoning Salt
- Trader Joes Just Grilled Chicken Strips
- Trader Joes Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Get The Party Started
The first thing to do is get the water boiling for the pasta. Rice pasta seems a bit more finicky than regular pasta, so keep an eye on the time and I try and check for done-ness a lot. Out of habit, I also rinse the cooked pasta with cold water to keep it from sticking. I dont notice a difference between adding salt to the water or not. Maybe Alton Brown could explain the pros and cons of doing that here.
