What Are The Best Flours For Gluten Free Dinner Recipes
There are many gluten free flours that you might use when making dinner, including:
- The simplest gluten free flour blend of superfine white rice flour, potato starch, and tapioca flour/starch for thickening a roux
- Superfine white rice flour for frying
- Tapioca flour to make stretchy gf breads and wraps to serve along with dinner
Which youll use will depend on the recipe that youre making. For example, you might use sweet white rice flour to thicken a gf gravy or soup, and rice flour for deep frying. There are also gluten free flour blends, such as my personal favorite Better Batter, that you might use to make breads and pasta or gluten free desserts.
Being Gluten Free Isn’t Easy
Trust me, I know. For starters, it is hard to find any gluten free products that do not cost an arm and a leg. Gluten free processed foods, such as bread, rolls, cookies, frozen meals, and muffins, are not only overpriced, but usually are packed with excess sugar and salt.
Looking for well balanced meal ideas that don’t break the bank? Seems like you’ve hit the jackpot. For these meals, I shopped at Walmart or Food Lion. Trader Joe’s or Aldi are also great alternatives that offer cheap, healthy options.
Tip: When purchasing gluten free packaged products, make sure to look for the certified gluten free symbol or a “gluten free” label on the front. This means there is no cross contact in the manufacturing plant and very little gluten is in the package!
Mussels In White Wine
Packed with protein, omega-3s, and a cache of energy-boosting B vitamins, shellfish make an ideal way to start a meal, or simply add a salad to the side, and you can call it a full meal for dinner. Build a flavor base with onions, garlic, and other aromatics, then add the mussels and enough liquid to create some steam. Cover and cook until they pop open, about 5 minutes or so. And make sure you have plenty of crusty bread for dunking in the sumptuous broth at the bottom of the bowl. No leftovers left behind!

Avoiding Gluten Contamination In The Kitchen
If you live in a household where some members still consume gluten containing ingredients, you have to be extra careful to prevent cross contamination. Although it would be much easier and safer to have the entire family switch to a gluten free diet, its not always possible.
The most important way to avoid cross contamination is to keep clean very, very clean. Wash down your countertops, cookware, utensils, and all cooking surfaces every time you cook or prepare food.
To be even safer, considering purchasing bowls, cutting boards, pots, storage containers, and utensils that will only be used for gluten free cooking. Porous tools like wooden spoons and cutting boards should be dedicated to gluten-free use, and having a separate gluten free toaster oven is smart.
