Bobs Red Mill Gf Brownie Mix Review

Gluten Free Brownies ~ Bob’s Red Mill

If you eat gluten free or enjoy whole grains, and whole grain flours, then you will be familiar with the famous brand, Bobs Red Mill. I love buying their products because of their philosophy behind the brand, the way they use stone ground mills for all their products. Stone milling ensures that the nutrients in the whole grains arent altered in any way. Their main focus will always be to bring healthy wholesome food to your family. Read more about the company here.

Wakame A Premium Weed From The Ocean

Wakame was introduced to Australia through ballast waters of visiting ships and was only identified in 1988.

Being an introduced seaweed variety, its fast-growing and invasive nature makes it currently prohibited to be farmed.

Wakame is harvested by commercial divers in the cleanest Southern part of Tasmania six weeks a year during winter. The seaweed is washed, then cut and freeze-dried.

You will soon fall in love with the wakame flakes which are crunchy at first but chewy as they moisten. Like all the other high-quality seaweed we have chosen, Tasmanian Wakame is an excellent source of iodine and a great salt substitute.

How To Make Fudgy Gluten Free Brownies

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease and line an 8×8 or 9×9 baking dish with parchment paper and set aside.
  • In a saucepan, melt the butter over low-medium heat. Add in sugar slowly and whisk continuously. This step is very important as it helps melt the sugar, which will give the brownies a the flakey crackly crust on the top. Continue whisking for approx 1-2 minutes after all the sugar has dissolved.
  • Transfer the butter mixture over to a bowl and let cool slightly. Add in eggs one at a time, whisking vigorously between each egg. Then add the vanilla last.
  • In a separate bowl, sift the cocoa powder, gluten free flour, baking powder and salt.
  • Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix until just combined. Transfer over to the lined baking dish. Top with chocolate chips, cacao nibs, or chopped nuts if you desire!
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, ensuring you do not over bake.
  • Remove from the oven and cool for about 15 minutes before cutting. Once the brownies are cool, cut them up and devour!

Bobs Red Mill Brownie Mix Gluten Free

So its time for another product review and this time Im reviewing Bobs Red Mill Brownie Mix Gluten Free.

Jesse brought the mix home from the shops the other week and I had a chocolate craving, so thought why not bake brownies? The packaging mentions adding other ingredients like peanut butter, chocolate chips and walnuts to add some extra texture and flavour. I chose to add some pecans to mix it up!

Pros for Bobs Red Mill Brownie Mix Only two ingredients required from your pantry Option to individualise the brownies with an extra ingredient or two Simple one step recipe that only requires one bowl Takes 10 minutes to prepare and bakes in 30 minutes The brownies are moist with a rich but not overpowering chocolate taste Brownies remain fresh for 3-4 days

Cons for Bobs Red Mill Brownie Mix The brownie mixture although moist inside becomes quite dry on top There is no guidance regarding the amount of extra ingredients you should add to the brownie mixture

Finally, would I bake these brownies again? Yes, but only if the mixture was heavily discounted at the supermarket and I didnt have time to make one of my own brownie recipes for visitors.

Please note all opinions are my own and I purchased this product of my own accord.

Glutino Gluten Free Brownie Mix

We LOVE Glutino brand productsbread, crackers, cookies, bars, etc. They tend to nail their packaged items, so I was excited to try this mix. The box is labeled with the catchphrase Entirely too chocolatey. I also appreciated that this mix is vegan friendly , and also comes with low-fat directions . But, we just didnt care for the texture or flavor. We still *love* Glutino, but dont think their brownie mix is their strongest product.

Overall score: 3/10

  • Where to Buy: Kroger, ,
  • Additional Ingredients Needed: Eggs or egg whites, vegan butter or butter, nuts .
  • Taste: Not especially chocolatey. Had a strong flour taste.

Want To Elevate These Brownies And Take Them To The Next Level

Bob
  • Add chunks of your favourite chocolate candy bar to the mix. Chop up 1 large candy bar into small pieces and add them to your brownie mix. I love adding Skor pieces, or Reeses Peanut Butter Cups.
  • Add chopped nuts to your brownie mix. Chop up some nuts with a knife or a food processor and add them to your mix before baking. I LOVE adding in raw unsalted almonds to my brownies!
  • Top the brownies with frosting. After your brownies are done baking, and have cooled a little, add your favourite frosting to the top. This will hide the beautiful flakey crust on top we worked so hard to achieve, but it really does make them taste EVEN better!
  • Make cheesecake brownies. Swirl in some cream cheese to the mix! BOOM!

Arrowhead Mills Gluten Free Brownie Mix

Arrowhead Mills has some GREAT gluten free products. They tend to be on the more affordable end, and the quality of everything wed tried up to this point was tip-top. This was my first time buying one of their mixes. I like that their brownie mix ingredient list was very straightforward and that it has chocolate chips in the mix. Ultimately, this one lost points for running a bit too far on the cake-y side for our familys preference. If you like cakey brownies, though, this might be just the right mix for you! . Its a solid choice, and a great one if you like cakey brownies.

    Overall score: 6/10

Freezing A Whole Pan Of Brownies

If you know that you’ll be freezing your brownies ahead of time, we recommend leaving them uncut. Freezing an entire pan of brownies is the best way to protect them from freezer burn and oxidation. Additionally, while air may creep into the pan and affect the edge of the brownies over time, the center will be fully protected from drying out.

The best way to freeze a pan of brownies is to line the pan with parchment paper before baking the brownies. Make sure that there is enough paper so that you can quickly grab the edges to remove the brownies from the pan after baking. Once baked, allow the brownies to cool off completely. Then, wrap the entire sheet of brownies with plastic wrap and then with foil. Though this method does make it hard to grab a bite of a brownie quickly, it is the best way to ensure that they remain fresh. Once you’re ready to eat the brownies, allow them to thaw completely before serving.

    Pillsbury Gluten Free Brownie Mix

Almond Flour Brownies | rich & fudgy, gluten-free brownies

I loved that this mix had TONS of chocolate chips. Its also the most affordable, and it wasnt too difficult for me to track down.

One thing I didnt realize when I ordered it online was that the chocolate chips in the mix contain milk fat. We have dairy intolerance but not dairy allergies at our house, so we simply sifted out the chocolate chips and added some of our own that were dairy free. .

These had a more subtle chocolate flavor , and were a bit on the thin side. But overall, a good mix!

    Overall score: 6/10

    • Where to Buy: Target, Walmart,
    • Additional Ingredients Needed: oil, water, egg
    • Taste: Not super strongly chocolatey, but had plenty of chocolate chips
    • Texture: Not a decidedly crackly top. Moderately fudgy. Lots of chocolate chips.
    • Certifications: gluten free
    • Allergy Information: Contains milk and soy ingredients

    Namaste Gluten Free Brownie Mix

A big plus of this mix is it comes with a double batch . I also like that the ingredient list is short and sweet with recognizable ingredients. However, the texture and flavor just didnt deliver for us. There was a very strong flour taste and they really didnt come across as chocolatey. We didnt finish them, and neither of our kids wanted to finish theirs.

    Overall score: 3/10

    • Where to Buy: Walmart, Natural Grocers,
    • Additional Ingredients Needed: Eggs, oil or butter, water

Bobs Red Mill Gluten Free Brownie Mix

Bobs Red Mill is consistently one of my go-to gluten free brands. Theyve been on the forefront of gluten free foods for years and years, and their commitment to quality is commendable. These brownies didnt disappoint!

They were some of the thickest brownies we tried, and come with lots of mix-in ideas on the package . We decided to add chocolate chips . Overall, they were a strong mix wed feel good recommending! The only marks off were for texture concerns

    Overall score: 7/10

    • Where to Buy: Natural Grocers, Target, Walmart, , Sprouts
    • Additional Ingredients Needed: water, eggs, oil
    • Taste: Good! Moderately chocolatey. Mix-ins made them better.
    • Texture: Decidedly fudgy! So much so, in fact, I debated whether or not they were cooked through and ended up giving them an extra few minutes in the oven. They completely set as they cooled . These didnt really have a crackly top, but they do get a top crust. The contrast between the crispy crust on top and the SUPER fudgy centers was really nice, especially when they had time to completely cool. We found we liked them even better chilled the next day!
