This sausage is made by a subsidiary of ConAgra Foods. ConAgra has a policy of clearly identifying all gluten ingredients in its foods. Most Banquet sausage products are labeled gluten-free. However, sausages found in combo products like the Waffle Breakfast or Pancake Breakfast may be subject to cross-contamination, since the waffles and pancakes both contain wheat flour.

Many of Banquet Brown and Serves sausages do not contain gluten ingredients. However, they are not specifically tested for gluten and could be subject to cross-contamination at the factory. To make this simple recipe for gluten free lil smokies, youll need just four ingredients:

  • Mini sausages. The most important part of this recipe is the sausages. I used Aldis cocktail sausages for my recipe because theyre labeled gluten free. But you can use any type of mini smoked sausage you want for your own appetizers.
  • Bacon. The type of bacon you use to wrap your mini sausages is up to you. I suggest a thinner cut of bacon to ensure it gets crispy as it bakes.
  • Cajun seasoning. Grab your favorite Cajun seasoning blend to add a little spice to your smoked sausages. McCormick Cajun seasoning blend is a good option because it is gluten free.
  • Brown sugar. Balance the spiciness of the Cajun seasoning and the saltiness of the bacon with the help of a little bit of brown sugar. The sugar creates a delicious caramelization on each sausage.

  • 1 red sweet pepper, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 3 Snipped fresh chives
  • Step 1

    In a large skillet, heat butter over medium heat. Add onion, red pepper, and garlic. Cook and stir 6 to 8 minutes or until just browned.

  • Step 2

    In a very large bowl, combine onion mixture, bread cubes, sausage, 2 1/2 cups cheese, and parsley. Transfer mixture to a greased 3-quart rectangular baking dish.

  • Step 3

    In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, half-and-half, salt, and black pepper. Pour evenly over the bread mixture. Press lightly with the back of a large spoon to moisten all of the ingredients. Cover with foil. Chill 4 to 24 hours.

  • Step 4

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Bake, covered, for 30 minutes. Uncover and bake 30 to 35 minutes more.

  • Step 5

    Remove from oven. Sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup cheese. Let stand 15 minutes serve warm. Garnish with chives, if desired.

Recipe For Bacon Wrapped Smokies

After gathering up your ingredients, youll just need a few minutes of prep work to get started on this quick and easy recipe. The first thing youll need to do is slice your bacon strips into quarters so theyre small enough to wrap around each sausage.

Place a sausage on top of the bacon piece and roll it to cover the lil smokie in bacon. Continue rolling each sausage in bacon until theyre all covered. You can use toothpicks to hold the bacon in place, but thats not absolutely necessary.

Combine your Cajun seasoning and brown sugar in a shallow dish. Roll each of the bacon wrapped smokies in the mixture until its coated.

Like a baking sheet with aluminum foil to make clean-up easier. Place each coated sausage on the baking sheet. Bake the lil smokies for 20 to 25 minutes, until the bacon is crispy. Allow the sausages to cool slightly before serving.

You can serve your bacon-wrapped little smokies as-is or push some toothpicks in the top of each sausage to make them easier to eat.
