    Books Great For Travel Lovers

    Driving Hungryby Layne Mosler

This memoir combines two of my favorite things – food and travel. Layne Mosler, a writer, and former restaurant worker travels to three major cities in search of authentic and delicious food. In Buenos Aires, she learns to tango and becomes obsessed with finding the best local places for Asado, pasta, and pastries. In her quest for discovering local eats, she meets people from all walks of life in Argentina, New York, and Germany, and even learns to drive a taxi in Manhattan.

My Two Cents: Don’t read on an empty stomach. You’ll be drooling with the exquisite detail Mosler uses to describe her food adventures.

Contact Your Host About Eating Gluten

If you are staying at a hotel, guesthouse, or Airbnb in Italy, contact them beforehand about your dietary requirements to see if they can accommodate you. Our B& B in Capri called B& B Angelide was a small private room hosted by a lovely husband and wife duo. Their son has celiac disease, and they had a stocked kitchen with wonderful breakfast choices, including Schar gluten-free bread, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, fresh fruit, and Italian gluten-free pastries.Another wonderful accommodation was Agriturismo Diacceroni in Tuscany, which is a family-friendly agro-tourism farmhouse with incredible meals, entertainment, and fun for all ages! My family and I stayed here and I was given such special treatment, including gluten-free croissants for breakfast, special pasta dishes, and my own pizzas during pizza night.

Benefits & How You May Have Learned Spanish

The benefits of speaking a second language are endless – especially if that language is Spanish.

Spanish is one of the most common languages spoken worldwide and the second most popular language here in the United States. Students as young as elementary school begin learning world languages, which can continue into middle school and then high school. Most colleges require two to three years of world language courses for admittance.

Once the college requirement is complete, many students move on to either planning their career, university path, or preparing for the military. After years of learning a language in detail, they stop completely. All of that knowledge and skill, without practice, can weaken or even disappear completely.

Many of us were taught Spanish in school in a way that was focused primarily on grammar. It was drilled into our heads along with lists and lists of vocabulary words to memorize each week. While the grammatical structures are important, and vocabulary is useful, all of that knowledge means nothing unless we can actually speak Spanish in the real world.

Remembering our knowledge of Spanish is good.

APPLYING that knowledge is even better.

How To Speak Up With Celiac: Find Community

Going out to eat when your Gluten Free ~ British Beer Company ~ Gluten Free App.

You arent alone in this fight. Here in the United States, celiac disease affects 3 million people. Learning how to speak up with celiac can be hard, but you aren’t the only one struggling!

Its comforting to have someone that can relate to exactly what you are going through. Reach out to fellow gluten-free friends on social media. Attend seminars and therapy groups for those with dietary restrictions. Visit gluten-free expos to make new connections with celiac safe brands, fellow patients, and local businesses. Every time a celiac meets a fellow celiac, it’s like two long lost friends meeting for the first time! And if you happen to meet in the gluten-free aisle of the grocery store, that’s the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Support doesnt have to come from those with celiac disease. It can also come from a partner, family member, friend, or colleague. Dylan has been my gluten-free cheerleader since Day 1. Dylan has seen firsthand what happens if I ingest gluten, as he’s the one holding my hair back over the toilet when I’m violently vomiting. Our loved ones that have seen gluten attack our bodies can be our strongest advocates and supporters we have besides ourselves. It can be a relief to have someone looking out for your safety, asking additional questions, and being here for you with a hug when gluten rears its ugly head.

    The Geography Of Bliss

The Geography of Blissby Eric Weiner

This was a refreshing and heartening read. Eric Weiner, a journalist, searches across the globe for the happiest places on earth. He investigates what makes the people of a particular place happy – is it their socioeconomic status? Their mindset? The climate of the country? This memoir will make you laugh, and will make you think. As the author is quickly humbled by the simplicity of what other people of the world need to be happy, you’ll reevaluate your own happiness as well.

My Two Cents: This book will make you reflect on your own life and what possessions you really “need” to be happy. It helped me on my journey toward minimizing & starting a capsule wardrobe.

    The Gluten Free Scanner

This app uses your smartphone camera as a scanner for product barcodes letting you know whether they contain gluten or not. This is made possible thanks in part to its large database of food products and drinks that are sold in the United States.
