Has there ever been a time in your life when you said no to bacon?

Of course not!

Why? Because a majority of popular and mainstream bacon products and companies are gluten free!

You see, bacon is basically just made up of pork belly, pepper, salt, sugar, spices, smoke flavor, and nitrates. No gluten, no nothing.

But there is one major issue that exists cross contamination.

Believe it or not, most bacon manufacturers cant guarantee their product to be gluten free due to shared equipment or shared processing facilities.

Plus, there are times when some of the smoke flavor used in some bacons contain barley malt powder. Thats why if the bacon manufacturer cant guarantee that their smoke flavor is 100% gluten free, its best for you to avoid it at all costs.

But thankfully, there are a few companies that can claim that their products are free.

Is Oscar Mayer Bacon Gluten

Oscar Mayer brand is owned by Kraft, and this company is well known for labeling their products when there is gluten in the ingredients.

I was able to find a number of flavors of their bacon as gluten-free on their website after looking through each products ingredients lists.

As with any brand and product, changes can be made at any time to the recipes, so always read ingredient lists before buying.

Is Wright Bacon Gluten

I spent a really long time trying to validate the fact that Wright bacon is gluten-free. I found a number of websites listing this brand as having gluten-free options. However, doing my own research, I wasnt able to come up with a definitive answer.

Check out this blog post if you are hoping to find flavors from this brand that are gluten-free, but again, I wasnt able to validate this information myself so didnt feel comfortable putting it in this post.

I hope if youve been looking for gluten-free bacon options that this post has helped you find a brand that will work for you! Always read ingredients lists and check for that gluten-free label before buying!

If you loved this post, I hope that youll share it with your friends on and pin it for future reference on .

Is Bacon Gluten Free Or Nah

Breaking News! According to Urban Taste Bud, bacon is gluten freeit has a list of bacon companies to prove it. A majority of the mainstream companies like Boar’s Head, Butterball and Oscar Mayer are gluten free.

Bacon is only made out of pork belly, pepper, salt, sugar, spices, smoke flavor, and nitrates: no gluten products. However, some companies cannot make any guarantees because of potential cross-contamination between equipment or processing facilities

Apparently, the smoke flavor used in some bacon products contain barley malt powdera powder formed from malted grains. This is why they cant guarantee if it’s 100 percent gluten free. If you do see bacon labeled gluten free, but containing malt, avoid it. You can call the company’s customer service line for assistance. Also, check the label for other seasonings and spice mixes to verify that you can eat it. We don’t need people getting sick or having allergic reactions.

If you visit most company websites, they’ll list which products are gluten free and which are not. For example, Hormel lists all their products in the “not gluten free” or the “gluten free” category.

Theres little that can be said to sing the glory of bacon. Its the Meryl Streep of the food world versatile, and capable of making everything better. And, its healthier than people may think it can single-handedly meet the fuel needs in the body of a ketoer looking to cut out carbs completely.

Now, if you are allergic to gluten, any food that comes from animals is probably good news for you. After all, gluten is plants-based. Its a family of proteins present in barley, wheat, rye, and triticale. So, as an animal protein, bacon is naturally free from gluten.

Commonly, when we say bacon, we mean the ones made from pork meat. There are alternatives, too, made from the meat of animals like turkey, lamb, goat, or beef. And, unless youre talking about vegetarian bacon, the real stuff is made of animal protein.

Lets assume from here on that the bacon in question is traditional pork bacon. It can be made from any cut or type of pork meat. The meat is either wet-cured in brine, or dry-cured in salt crystals.

Other ingredients are additives to add extra flavors to the bacon, and these ingredients may vary largely.

And, because God is not completely cruel, bacon, like all animal proteins, is completely safe for you to consume even if you cant put it on a slice of white, soft bread. Remember that the diet of the animal from which the meat is derived is irrelevant here.

Labelling Can Help Consumers Make Choices But It Can Also Be Used To Confuse Them

Wright® Brand Thick Sliced Hickory Smoked Bacon, 3 lb.

It was enough to spoil my breakfast.

As I opened a package of bacon to cook while camping on the holiday weekend, I learned from the label that it was gluten-free.

Gluten-free bacon? I was confused. Since when does bacon, which comes from animals, contain gluten, which is one of the components of the proteins in cereal grains?

It reminded me of a recent Twitter feed where the writer posted a photo of a service truck that offered gluten-free tree trimming and asked where he could find a gluten-free oil change.

When we were back on the grid, I Googled does bacon contain gluten? It seemed confused too. I waited several minutes and received no answer.

So I asked Siri, who referred me to Celiac.com where someone commented: I have never encountered bacon that was not gluten-free.

The next website on Siris list was a little less reassuring for those who are concerned about such things.

Not all bacon is truly gluten-free, the website verywellfit.com says. The vast majority of bacon products dont include any gluten ingredients. However that doesnt mean that your bacon is truly gluten free, you need to check it for potential gluten cross contamination may contain trace amounts of gluten because theyre processed in a shared facility or on shared equipment.

As bacon typically comes from facilities that process other meat products, I suspect the prospects for such contamination would be exceedingly low.

Is It True That Eggs Contain Gluten

Fortunately, there are a few tried-and-true components that can help you create gluten-free recipes. The egg is one of the most important components. Egg ingredients can help food formulators attain optimal shape, function, appearance, taste, texture, and shelf life by providing more than 20 functional benefits. Eggs are gluten-free in their original state, in the shell, as are most further processed egg products, such as liquid whole eggs, egg yolks, and egg whites.

New Labeling Regulations

Because even trace levels of gluten can accumulate over time in a gluten-free formulation, each component is important. Unexpected sources of gluten, according to Joe Baumert, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Food Science and Technology, University of Nebraska, Lincoln, who spoke at the Institute of Food Technologists Annual Meeting and Food Expo in 2014, can include spices or fermented components like enzymes. Bakeries, in particular, can face cross-contamination in a facility that processes both standard and gluten-free products. Unexpected gluten sources or cross-contamination events can have an impact on a products labeling status.

Gluten Free Candied Bacon

I had the most amazing bacon last Easter at a local restaurant near the south entrance of Yosemite. It was in Bass Lake at Duceys on the Lake. It was the best bacon I have ever had! I never thought that I could reproduce it, but I did! You have to try this gluten free candied bacon! It has so much flavor. Its a special treat.

What Else Inspired This Recipe:

Its a crazy story how I came to creating this recipe. I have been dieting here and there and told my husband that I was just eating the crumbs from my favorite beef jerky . I told him that crumbs didnt count. He laughed and said crumb-brulee. My eyes bulged out as I thought, This beef jerky would be awesome on top of some creme brulee! Then I thought, instead, maybe I should try bacon. Better yet, candied bacon! I added pepper and cayenne which does not produce any heat to this recipe.

How This Recipe Differs From Others Online:

I began with a basic candied bacon recipe, but changed a few things about it. Number one, the temperature everyone cooks it at is 350ºF which I believe to be way too low. After much experimentation, I bake bacon at 375ºF. Most recipe call for ground black pepper. It doesnt produce any heat to this recipe, just flavor. So, I not only used black pepper, but equal amounts of cayenne pepper. Again, it doesnt produce any heat, just flavor. The heat from the peppers balance out the other ingredients and especially the brown sugar.

Total Time: 45 minutes

Yield: Makes up 14 – 16 slices
