How Is Wendys Chili Made
Wendys has been serving chili since they first opened their doors in Columbus, Ohio, in 1969. Wendys makes their chili in house at each restaurant. We know this hearty soup includes beef, beans, vegetables, and spices, but how exactly is it made?
The beef was once ground, but when it enters the pot of chili, it is coming from a pre-cooked hamburger. It is said that this is where much of the flavor comes from. Instead of the meat just being fried in a pan, it is flamed on the grill.

Thats right, French fry fans, popular hamburger chain Wendys is reformulating their French fries. Well, like many things, the original fries contained no gluten ingredients, but they will still be prepared in fryers which are shared with gluten-containing foods, like breaded chicken.

Keep in mind that even in franchises which may cook their fries in dedicated vats, any gluten-free food could still be cross-contaminated within a busy fast food environment.
According to John Li, Wendys vice president of culinary innovation, Wendys new French fries are designed to retain heat and crispness for between 15 and 30 minutes to accommodate the brands growth in drive-thru, carry-out and other off-premises sales channels.
The new fries are a cut above, literally, said Emily Kessler, Wendys senior specialist for culinary and innovation, in a Zoom press conference Thursday. And thats because these not-exactly-square French fries are by design.
So, if you are a fan of a good French fry, this could be the news youve been waiting for, but unfortunately they are not safe for those with celiac disease.

What Makes Wendys Chili Different
I think there are two main things that makes the chili at Wendys different.
One is the texture of the meat. It is very fine compared to a lot of chili.
My guess is that at Wendys they use leftover cooked hamburgers for the chili. This would give it the texture that it has, but you can easily recreate this texture at home my mashing it with a potato masher or chopping it finely.
Wendys also uses two different kinds of beans in their chili. You dont have to do this, but it does make it more authentic.
Baked Potato And Chili:
If you dont want a salad , you can order a baked potato topped with chili and cheese . You can eat both of these menu items, no problem, and, in my opinion, both options offer a low risk of cross contamination.
If you like to top your baked potato with the cheese sauce, youre in luck because the cheese sauce is gluten free too, and so is the sour cream and bacon toppings.

Does Wendys Have Many Gluten
Compared to other fast-food restaurants, Wendys has a very good selection of gluten-free options. Though it does not showcase these options as being gluten-free in the restaurant.
There are two protein options at Wendys that do not contain gluten and that is the basic burger patty and the applewood smoked bacon. All other p[roteins come into contact with gluten at some point, making them not gluten-free.
Most salad options at Wendys are also gluten-free except for the ones that include chicken in them. The safest options are the parmesan caesar salad, southwest avocado salad, taco salad, and apple pecan salad.

For dessert options, you can get a frosty in either the vanilla or chocolate flavor. They are both gluten-free.

Milk/dairy Is In The Chili
I have ordered the chili for over 5 yrs for my lil girl whom is deathly allergic to anything with milk in it. Never did we have a problem until recently.I had to call 911 and she was rushed to lebonuer childrens hospital because apparently they just started putting cheese burgers in the chili. She had an asthma attack as she was having her allergic reaction which almost killed her.This was a tramatic experience and I think that people who work w food should take allergies to foods wayyy more seriously! This happened in Southaven, MS. I wish that the chili was made with no dairy because it was her favorite.these children have slim Pickens when they have a milk allergy so its exciting when us parents find them a food without dairy in a fast food restaurant .

That is horrible. I hope that your daughter is doing well. And I agree it is a terrible practice theyve changed to! Not all locations put cheeseburgers in it isnt a corporate practice. But there have been reports of this happening at some locations. And some cheese can get in from the grill.
