Can I Store These Gluten Free French Fried Onion Rings

Since the best part of these onion rings is the crispiness, I dont recommend storing them. They tend to lose crispness quickly. Eat them close to the time you make them! But if you do need to re-heat them, try placing under the broiler or in a toaster oven, watching carefully to make sure they dont burn. You could also try re-frying them.

Gluten Free French Fried Onions (AIP & Whole30)

Theres no deep frying involved with these gluten free onion rings! Instead, these can be pan-fried in a skillet. I aimed to make these easy and fun to throw together. Get your little ones involved for a family activity!

  • First, thinly slice your onionthe thinner the better, so theyre easily coated. I recommend either a white onion or yellow onion, though you can use a sweet onion if needed. Make sure each layer is separated.
  • Now, begin heating your skillet and oil of choice over medium-high heat. While your oil heats, set up your station to coat your onions. Put your coconut milk in one bowl and your flour, starch, and spices in the other
  • Dredge your onion slices in your coconut milk, then coat with your flour mixture before adding in a single layer to your heated skillet. Allow your onions to brown before flipping, then drain on paper towels to absorb excess oil. Youll need to work in batches so as not to overcrowd your skillet, and youll probably need to add more oil between batches.
  • Serve as is, or alongside a dipping sauce. My Cilantro Avocado Mayo would add a cooling kick!

    How To Reheat Fried Rice

If you have leftover fried rice, its super easy to reheat the next day.

    Heres how:

    • To reheat on the stove top: Add 1-2 tablespoons of water to a medium size skillet and warm over medium high heat. When hot, add your cold fried rice and stir fry for a minute or two, until steamy and warmed through.
    • To reheat in the microwave: Add fried rice to a microwave safe bowl. Dampen a paper towel and place it on top of the rice, tucking in the edges around the rice. Heat for 1-2 minutes, until warmed through. You can also use this method to reheat plain rice!

These tricks will keep your fried rice from drying out when reheated.

How To Make This Gluten Free Fried Rice

Like any stir fry recipe, its important to have all of your ingredients chopped, measured, and ready before you start cooking.

    Heres the step-by-step

    • Season chicken. Add finely diced chicken breast to a small bowl and toss together with salt.
    • Whisk the eggs with a bit of salt and set aside.
    • Scramble the eggs. Heat 1/2 tablespoon avocado oil or ghee over medium high heat in a wok or large skillet. Add whisked eggs and scramble until just barely cooked. Transfer to a large plate or bowl.
    • Cook the chicken. Add another 1/2 tablespoon oil to the pan and add the seasoned chicken. Cook, stirring frequently, until cooked through. Transfer to the plate or bowl with the scrambled eggs.
    • Stir fry the onions. Add the remaining oil to the pan along with the diced onion and the light green parts of the green onion. Sauté until translucent and soft.
    • Add the rice to the pan along with the tamari or coconut aminos, and fish sauce if using. Toss to combine and press into a thin layer so as much rice as possible has contact with the hot pan. This helps build some nice crispy bits!
    • Add the chicken, scrambled eggs, and frozen peas back to the pan. Toss together and cook until peas are thawed, and everything is warmed through.
    • Season to taste with salt, pepper, and more tamari if desired.
    • Serve immediately topped with the thinly sliced dark green parts of the green onion, and chili oil if using. Add some fresh herbs like cilantro or basil for bonus points!

Pro-Tip: To ensure you get enough protein and all the essential amino acids your body needs to function, try pairing incomplete protein sources!

    French Fried Onion Rings

Ever have one of those moments, when it seems that out of nowhere an idea enters your head and you wonder why on earth you never thought of it before?? I had one of those moments last nightso much so, that I decided to make French Fried Onions at 11pm!

A childhood memory came up last night as I was chatting with a childhood buddy on Facebook. When we were kids and we had sleepovers at her house, in the morning her dad would make French Toast and with the left over Milk/Egg mixture and flour, he would make French Bacon! I know it sounds weird but it was so good! So I thought to myself, French Toast, French Baconwonder if that process would work for French Fried Onions??!! I couldnt wait until next week to find out so, I experimented last night! I was really impressed with the outcome, the GF French Fried Onions came out the crispiest of all the recipes I have tried over the years. All I have to do now is try it in Green Bean Casserole, which I am getting ready to do I write this.

The recipe that I posted before, inspired from Gluten Free Mommy was pretty much all there except for the egg. Easy enough. So, I just cracked the egg, beat it and added it to the milk that I used for soaking the onions!

One last change I made was using little white boiler onions. I thought they would look more like the little onions in the can.
