Grocery Stores To Shop At In San Diego
If youre wanting to cook for yourself, like we do a lot of the time, there are a couple of really good grocery stores for finding gluten free food to cook at home.
Lazy Acres: Bougie AF, but we love it. We love poking around stores like this to find up-and-coming gluten free brands that havent quite made it big yet, and this store is full of them. Prices are high. Like really high. So know that going in.
Whole Foods: A solid choice, with plenty of gluten free options from pasta, to bread, and more. Prices are more reasonable since the Amazon acquisition, especially if youre a Prime member.
Trader Joes: We love Trader Joes. Only buy things that are explicitly labeled gluten free though. Good prices, but a sometimes-underwhelming selection of gluten free items.
Safeway: Semi-affordable prices, although sometimes we find that things are the same price at Whole Foods in some cases. Shop the sale items for truly great prices.
Ignite Bistro & Wine Spot
With a great view of inland Carlsbad, Ignite is always buzzing with people. The whole place has a great ambiance and friendly feel. They offer a gluten-free menu and GF crusts for their pizzas. Selections include Man Candy , Ranch Pork Chops, Lobster Quinoa Risotto, and Gorgonzola Steak. There is also a GF Chocolate Cake for dessert!
Streetcar Merchants Of Fried Chicken Doughnuts & Coffee
North Park/La Jolla
This multifaceted joint serves up several styles of bird, some of which — like its signature dark, Southern-style cult favorite Nashville hot and salty/sweet honey pecan — you’ll find at both locations. Others, meanwhile, are store-specific, including North Parks twice-fried, super-crunchy Korean style , or the off-menu NashKILL hot, which is regular Nashville hot with the addition of ghost pepper and house-made Thai hot sauce — it’s so incendiary that you have to sign a waiver when you order it. La Jollas luxe location has a gluten-free fried chicken alternative and a larger menu that includes lunch, brunch, and dinner. The extended offerings here evoke Southern comfort food, including shrimp & grits, fried catfish & chips, and chicken pot pie.Whichever location you visit, go for the ultimate donut and fried chicken experience in The Southerner: a split cinnamon-sugar donut stuffed with fried chicken, bacon, a fried egg, cheese, and jalapeño, then maple glazed and served with a side of fresh hand-cut fries. Gluten Free Vancouver Guide 2022
Looking for a bustling metropolitan city, next to the sea, sandwiched between epic wilderness and a famous wine region? Vancouver is your gal. Whats more the gluten free Vancouver scene is insaaaaane. From fresh baked gluten free cookie ice-cream sandwiches to gluten free fish-shaped waffles filled with soft serve, the city is brimming with fantastic food options for coeliacs.
During our trip to Canada we discovered so many good gluten free Vancouver options that I wasnt sure where to start! With the help of my husband and friend we managed to do some broad gluten free taste testing across the city and I have compiled all our faves here below for your guys. All recommendations are coeliac-friendly, as always.
As of April 2022 Ive updated the guide and added a few new openings. I can hardly believe how many dedicated gluten free spots there are! Time for a return trip :).

This 100% gluten free Vancouver bakery was handily located very close to our AirBnB in North Vancouver. It is slightly hidden inside a small shopping centre but is worth seeking out. The make amazing gluten free cheese bread that lasts really well the ideal spot to stock up for your roadtrip needs. We also tried and enjoyed their pecan banana muffins and warm chicken pannini on gluten free foccacia.
This is yet another dedicated gluten free bakery in Vancouver, with a focus on wholesome bakes. They use no white sugar, artificial ingredients with some items that are suitable for diabetics, lactose intolerant and vegan people too.

The Best Coffee Shops In Seattle
Seattle is the world capitol of coffee thanks to the global conglomerate with the Siren logo. I will say that I take out of town visitors to the Starbucks Reserve Roastery on Capitol Hill because its a super cool space and experience, and they do some interesting things like cold brew cocktails. But for the best coffee, you should head a few steps up the street to Victrola.
Update for 2021: I wrote a guide to the best coffee in Seattle! We went to 16 different coffee shops and tasted their brewed coffee and cappuccino to choose our 12 favorites.
La Marzocco Cafe : Located in the shadow of the Space Needle, this place is part La Marzocco showroom, and part coffee shop with rotating coffee roasters. If you love coffee, its pretty much a must-stop. It also happens to be a beautiful open space.
Victrola Coffee Roasters : This is my favorite coffee roaster in Seattle. They have a lovely shop in the heart of Capitol Hill, serving up the usual third wave coffee offerings from pour over to lattes with pretty art. Their holiday blend around Christmas is outstanding, as are most of their single origin roasts that they sell at the cafe.
Espresso Vivace : This is the mecca of Seattles coffee scene. They literally started latte art. Cool old-school vibes at their standing bar. Get the Cafe Nico a double shot of espresso, vanilla, orange, and steamed half-and-half.

Popular in LA, and more recently in La Jolla, Mendocino Farms brings fast-casual to new heights in its Del Mar location. Which Flour Do I Need For Gluten Free Fried Chicken
I used a shop-bought gluten free plain flour blend, but also had great results with corn flour. So you can use either for this recipe. Potato starch works really well too, its just less readily available in the shops.
My favourite flour blend to use was actually the super cheap Asda Gluten Free Plain flour , as it contains lots of potato starch and thats perfect for frying. The FREEE flour works well too, its just more expensive and the Asda one made slightly better batter.
Innocent Sweets Ice Cream
Gluten free ice cream sandwiches! This 100% gluten free location served absolutely incredible gluten free ice cream sandwiches. I urge you to go out of your way to try this one, it was that good. They serve a dozen or more varieties, including vegan and dairy free options. We tried three of the minis : Fairytale vanilla sugar cookies with raspberry white chocolate ice cream Salt Peanut peanut butter cookie with salted caramel ice cream Double Dark double chocolate cookie with chocolate ice cream. Amazing amazing amazing. Perfectly crunchy-chewy gluten free cookies and creamy smooth ice cream perfection. They also have gluten free waffle cones if you prefer.

Tin Leaf Fresh Kitchen
Serving locally sourced ingredients, Tin Leaf is a friendly fast-casual restaurant that aims to serve affordable chef-quality food. Despite having lived in San Francisco for almost a decade and having family near L.A., neither of us had really ever spent much time in Los Angeles. So when we were looking for a warm and sunny place to hunker down for a week or two, L.A. quickly rose to the top of our list.

As Ive been writing more and more about Seattle, I have realized just how much I love it. I grew up in a suburb of Seattle, went to college in Seattle, and lived there after school for for five years before moving to San Francisco. Seattle holds a special place in my heart because I started my journey with Celiac Disease in Seattle in 2008.
Despite the many changes that it has gone through since I left namely more and more development and skyrocketing housing prices as everyone and their mother is moving there for Amazon or Microsoft its still one of my favorite cities in the country, if not the world, and I visit family several times a year.

So many, in fact, that you probably wont make it to all of them in one trip. Guess youll have to plan a return trip!
However, just like other West Coast cities, youre going to find restaurants that claim to serve gluten free food, but dont have ANY processes in place to manage cross-contamination. Which means they cant serve Celiacs safely.
