Gluten Free Cheerios Bars

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Gluten-Free Cheerios.

Did you know that five flavors of Cheerios are now gluten free? You can learn all about how they make sure their oats are gluten free HERE. Its really fascinating! Cheerios sent me boxes of their gluten free cereals to try, so you know what I had to do? Make something yummy with them!

I whipped up some Gluten Free Peanut Butter Cup Cheerios Bars. They are perfect for the peanut butter cup lover, AND they are totally gluten free!

While my husband doesnt have a positive gluten allergy, he is very sensitive to it, so I try to limit gluten in the things I make. I was thrilled when I found out Cheerios had five of their flavors completely gluten free. Yellow Box Cheerios, Honey Nut Cheerios, MultiGrain Cheerios, Apple Cinnamon Cheerios and Frosted Cheerios are now all Gluten Free. You can find the label right on the box!

I love Cheerios. Its one of my favorite cereals for breakfast. I try to stick with oats for breakfast cereal because it is much more filling and full of protein to get you through the day. Cheerios is not just great for breakfast, but its perfect for after school snacks or late night snacks, too.

These treats have full size peanut butter cups hidden right in the middle. The heat from the melted marshmallows melts the peanut butter cups into chocolate peanut buttery goodness!

Other Gluten Free Food

Instead of asking “Is butter gluten free or not”, you can enjoy some other food that does not contain gluten. For instance:

  • Distilled alcohol, but avoid beer because it may contain gluten.
  • Dairy products, such as cream, milk, cottage cheese, cream cheese, margarine, and eggs. Avoid processed cheese blends because they may not be gluten free.
  • Deserts, such as ice cream, sorbet, sherbet, whipped topping, popsicles, and egg custards. Several gluten-free desert mixes are also available in the market.
  • Meats, poultry, and fish are also gluten-free, but avoid anything that is marinated or breaded. You can find gluten-free marinades as well.
  • Almost all nuts and oils are good to eat because they do not contain gluten.

What’s more, you can consume fresh fruits and vegetables. Canned and frozen vegetables and fruits are good to eat unless they contain fillers or additives. Moreover, all sorts of dried and fresh herbs as well as garlic, spices, and onion powder are also gluten free.

Why are they making Cheerios gluten free now?

It began with Phil Zietlow, an engineer at General Mills for more than 50 years. When he discovered his daughter-in-law, Joyce, was diagnosed with Celiac disease, Phil set off on an almost 6-year mission to make Gluten Free Cheerios. About one percent of the population has Celiac disease, but nearly 30% of the population is avoiding gluten. Now General Mills wants everyone to be able to enjoy Cheerios!

How are they making Cheerios gluten free?

Gluten Free Cheerios were achieved by changing the ingredient-sorting process not the ingredients themselves. There is one exception MultiGrain Cheerios which was reformulated to include sorghum and millet instead of wheat and barley.

You can find Gluten-Free Cheerios by looking for the Gluten-Free seal on packaging. Its beginning to appear in stores now, but will be almost fully available in September.

Difference Between Certified An Labeled Gluten

To be certified gluten-free, products are required to contain less than 10ppm of gluten to become certified. If youre extremely sensitive to gluten, you might want to look out for this seal on any products you buy.

There are five different seals and they all say GF or gluten-free certified on them.

The last two belong to the same certification program. You can see the one in all black on some products that havent changed their packaging recently. The new one is on the right .

For products to legally be labeled gluten-free in the United States, they must first meet the requirements of the FDA of being less than 20ppm gluten. When products are tested to be less than 20ppm gluten, they may be labeled as such.

20ppm is still considered to be safe for celiacs.

Just like getting organic certification, it costs a lot of money to become gluten-free certified. And companies have to pay that fee yearly. So perhaps thats why some companies dont go the extra mile.

Companies that are in a dedicated facility might also feel like its not needed as there really shouldnt be any gluten floating around.

So many people out there cannot tolerate gluten. They have questions about food that may or may not be gluten free. Is Almond Butter Healthy

Peanut Butter Oatmeal Bars {Gluten Free}

Almond butter is healthy. It is high in heart-healthy monounsaturated fats that help lower LDL, or bad cholesterol, and raise HDL, or good cholesterol. It is also high in vitamins and minerals including vitamin E, magnesium, and calcium. And with 200 calories, nearly 19 grams of fat, and almost 5 grams of protein, almond butter can help you bridge the gap between meals when you are hungry.

In addition to heart health, almond butter is also good for bone health. Almond butter contains 60 milligrams of calcium, which is 5% of your recommended daily allowance. It is not just the calcium that makes almond butter healthy for your bones, though. The magnesium found in almond butter helps your body better absorb the calcium.

The magnesium found in almond butter also helps increase insulin sensitivity, which could help lower your risk of developing diabetes.

Lastly, almond butter contains more vitamin E than many other nut butters. Vitamin E is an antioxidant that can help prevent diabetes, obesity and certain cancers.

What Is Peanut Butter

Peanut butter is a spread made from dry roasted, ground peanuts. Generally, peanut butter comes in two forms creamy or crunchy. Crunchy peanut butter is simply a peanut spread that contains large chunks of peanuts. This differs from creamy peanut butter, where the texture is smooth with no peanut chunks to be found.

In addition to the different textures of peanut butter, there are a variety of different flavored peanut butters available as well. Some of these flavors include cinnamon, vanilla, chocolate, honey, coconut, and maple.

While peanut butter can be made from simply grinding dry roasted peanuts, many manufacturers include additional ingredients. These ingredients will generally include salt, sugar, and oil. The oil is used to stabilize the product, while salt and sugar act as a flavor enhancer and sweetener, respectively.

Is Peanut Butter Gluten

In its natural form, both peanuts and peanut butter are gluten-free.

Many store-bought brands of peanut butter are also gluten-free, with gluten-containing peanut butter tending to be the exception rather than the rule. But beyond the basics of peanuts, oil, sweetener and salt, there can be additional ingredients, particularly in more-processed brands. Rarely, these added ingredients can be gluten-containing, so always be on the lookout for the gluten-free label.

Additionally, some brands may be processed in facilities that also process wheat. This information will almost always be on the jar, so please consider your risks of cross-contact before buying. However, when safe manufacturing protocols are in place, it is possible to safely manufacture gluten-free food for people with celiac disease in a shared facility.

At most grocery stores there are many varieties of safe, gluten-free peanut butter, so if you cant determine whether a product is gluten-free or not, its best to stick to one that is labeled as such.

Many people avoid gluten, a group of proteins found in grains like wheat, barley, and rye, due to personal preference or a medical condition .

Celiac disease, wheat allergy, and non-celiac gluten sensitivity all involve an adverse reaction to gluten and are treated with a gluten-free diet. These conditions are considered forms of gluten intolerance .

While both celiac disease and NCGS may lead to intestinal damage and cause symptoms like diarrhea, gas, and bloating, celiac is an autoimmune condition linked to other serious health effects, such as anemia, stunted growth, and neurological effects .

Wheat allergy refers to an allergic reaction to wheat proteins, the symptoms of which may be life threatening. This condition is treated with a wheat-free diet, not necessarily a gluten-free diet .

Although people with wheat allergies must avoid wheat, most are able to eat other grains, including gluten-containing ones like barley and rye.

Meanwhile, people with celiac disease and NCGS must avoid all gluten-containing foods to control symptoms. Notably, many healthy foods are naturally gluten-free, and quite a few companies make scrumptious gluten-free products.

Here are 8 foods to avoid if you have a gluten intolerance, as well as 7 you can safely eat.
