How To Make A No Yeast Pizza Dough

If you do any baking, you probably know that most traditional bread and pizza dough recipes call for yeast. This is because yeast makes them rise and become soft on the inside.

There are some types of yeast that contain gluten, so its best not to use it if you can. Thankfully, theres no need to use yeast in this recipe because there are some gluten-free products that can be used to help dough rise. One of those products is xanthan gum.

Xanthan gum is a gluten free, keto, and Paleo food additive that can thicken and stabilize things like baked goods, sauces, and desserts. But its also a fantastic leavening agent! Plus, it may even help to lower cholesterol and blood sugar levels!

For my no yeast pizza dough, I used Bobs Red Mill All Purpose Gluten Free Flour and their xanthan gum to help the gluten free flour rise and soften when baked!

Bobs Red Mill Gluten Free All Purpose Baking Flour is a versatile gluten free flour blend. Because their flour has no xanthan gum or guar gum, we just have to add it in separately. Easy peasy!

I had to utilize a mix of different websites to find the ingredients for these Trader Joes crusts, so its possible that one or more are outdated. Be sure to double-check the ingredients yourself in the store if you want to be certain. But heres what I found:

How To Make Paleo Vegan Pizza

Making this pizza is simple and straightforward. Prepare the crust first. Mix your flax egg and water right away and let it sit for 10 minutes before adding to the dough. Mix all ingredients in a large bowl . Spread the dough out into a circle on a parchment lined pizza pan or baking sheet. You can use a bit more tapioca flour to help if the dough is sticky.

Bake the crust at 425° F for about 12-15 minutes or until set. Meanwhile, prepare the cheese sauce. I use a small blender like a Nutribullet when making cheese sauces because my vitamix is too large for the small amount I need to blend.

Blend all the ingredients until you have a very smooth creamy mixture. Once the crust is done, assemble the pizza. Spread the pizza sauce over the crust, and spoon the cheese mixture on top, using as much as desired.

Top with chopped fresh basil and return to the oven to bake another 10 minutes or so, until the crust is crisp on the edges and the cheese sauce is beginning to turn golden. Slice with a pizza cutter and serve with any additional toppings you like.

Use A Recipe That Calls For Thin Crust

Perfect FOLDABLE Gluten Free Pizza Crust – Vegan Dough with Psyllium Husk

Gluten free pizza doughs often produce a thinner crust compared to traditional pies. The lack of gluten in the dough produces a more batter-like mixture, which creates a deliciously thin crust. If youre craving a thicker crust, don’t be discouraged. There are simple tweaks that you can make to any gluten free recipe, which will allow your crust to reach greater heights. For a thicker gluten free crust, many recipes suggest adding a teaspoon or so of xanthan gum to help the dough rise.

Here’s a recipe we love that calls for xanthan gum and active dry yeast to create a crust with outstanding texture and flavor.

Notes About The All Purpose Gluten Free Flour

Bobs Red Mill gluten free all-purpose flour is a gluten free flour blend, without baking powder, xanthan gum or guar gum. This is DIFFERENT than their 1:1 GF baking flour, which has thickeners. So why is this important? Because using this flour allows you to adjust the texture of the dough! You can make it extra chewy or more flat and crispy, depending on how much xanthan gum you add.

    Tips For Measuring Gluten

The best way to measure gluten-free flour is the spoon & level method. Using a spoon, scoop the flour into the measuring cup. After youve spooned the flour into the measuring cup, use the back of a knife to level off the top of the measuring cup. Please do not scoop the flour out of the bag with your measuring cup or you could get more gluten-free flour than the recipe calls for.

Also, use a measuring cup made for dry ingredients .

    Understand The Importance Of Yeast

In any recipe, yeast can be used to help give rise to your dough. Yeast creates gas that, when cooked, allows your dough to expand. This air helps the inside of your pizza crust stay soft and chewy, while the heat from the oven creates a browned crispy outside. Because there is no gluten, gluten free dough often lacks the structure that most wheat flours provide. The amount of yeast needed to create that structure will vary per recipe, and many recipes may call for other ingredients that may not commonly be found in pizza dough to help create that structure.

This would be a great use for leftover turkey, pepperoni, rotisserie chicken, some healthy chicken sausage, or bacon.

    Toppings

    • 1/4 to 1/3 cup BBQ sauce
    • 6 ounces Colby Jack cheese, shredded
    • 1 cup diced cherry tomatoes

    • 1/4 cup sliced or diced onion
    • salt/pepper

My Dough Was Too Wet And Sticky To Roll What Should I Do

Firstly, its supposed to be a little sticky as a formed dough in the bowl. As long as youre able to bring it together into a ball, when you start rolling it out on a floured surface, the extra flour should make sure it doesnt stick to your surface, hands or rolling pin.

Theres only two main ingredients here so measuring them out correctly is really important. Itll stop you from adding in too much yoghurt in the first place and making the dough too wet!

But of course, if you have added too much yoghurt by accident, you can always just add a little extra flour until its the correct consistency.

    Gluten Free Pizza Crust

    Best Gluten

Gluten free pizza crust can be really hard to get right. Pretty much all of them that Ive tried have different textures and different tastes. I would characterize my gluten free pizza crust recipe as buttery and chewy.

And dont even get me started on eating the cold pizza leftovers the next day, which is one of the best things about pizza, right?! Some mixes were better than others, but I felt like they all lacked something important and I was beginning to think I would never eat satisfying pizza again.

As more brands were starting to embrace gluten free I found some frozen pizzas that actually tasted pretty good, my husband even declared one of them as being better than regular pizza, but they were like $10.00 for a small frozen pizza and that is just so hard to justify. Especially when my husband and I would split one and still both be hungry! And, ideally, I try to stay away from most frozen entrees and make my own from scratch, so I knew I had to come up with a better solution!

This pizza crust that Im so fondly calling the Best and Easiest Gluten Free Pizza Crust, is just that. It forms nicely into whatever thickness pizza crust you desire, it produces a perfectly chewy, perfectly crispy crust, and best thing is that in order to make it, you just add all of the ingredients to a bowl, form the dough into a ball, let sit for 30 minutes and then you can form your crust! It really couldnt be any easier!

Do I Need Weighing Scales To Bake Your Gluten Free Pizza Recipe

In short yes, yes and yes! And I wouldnt advise attempting any of my recipes without them. One of the worst things you can do in any baking recipe is alter the quantities by mistake or on purpose.

A lot of work went into fine tuning ratios and quantities so I wouldnt mess around with them unless you really know your stuff. Id recommending using digital cooking scales like these so you know youre getting an accurate measurement.
