Whats The Difference Between Steel

How to make healthy oatmeal organic recipe steel cut oats oat rolled gluten lactose casein free

Both start with the same source – oat groats. Contrary to popular belief, the nutritional value differs only slightly. They are merely processed differently.

Steel-cut oats are oat groats sliced 2 or 3 times with steel blades. They are chopped into pieces, resulting in a bead or pin-like appearance. They are thick and have a little more bite when cooked.

Rolled oats are steamed and flattened. They are flat, oval-shaped oat groats with a softer texture when cooked.

Are Organic Steel Cut Oats Gluten

Today its easy to find gluten-free oats in any supermarket. However, the truth is that all oats are gluten-free. Organic oat flour is regularly used as a substitute in gluten-free baking as it works better than buckwheat and bean flours.

Remember that oats contain various proteins, and people with extreme sensitivities might have an intolerance of some. These cases are sporadic, but if you know your stomach is fragile, be careful when eating lots of grains. Large quantities of Organic Steel Cut Oats might cause some digestive distress because they are high in fiber. You can prevent this reaction by controlling your portions. Also, water consumption is essential when you have oats routinely since it regulates digestion and bowel movements.

The length of time for the expiration date or “best used before” date depends on the type of product, as well as the brand.

Perishable items generally have shorter expiration dates. Although our warehouse is fully air-conditioned, these more fragile items are put in cold storage for maximum freshness.

Our receiving department does its best to verify and then enter the correct expiration dates for all incoming products. However, discrepancies do occur from time to time. This being said, the exceptionally high turnover at iHerb ensures that our inventory is among the freshest in the industry.

What You Need To Make Instant Pot Steel Cut Oats

Just 3 ingredients + an Instant Pot are all you need to get started on these Instant Pot Steel Cut Oats!

AN INSTANT POT! I use this one. Its been big enough for everything weve needed so far and works beautifully.

MILK OR WATER. Steel cut oats need about 3 cups of liquid per cup of oats, and I love using milk in place of water for a creamier finish. You can use whatever milk you drinksoy, dairy, rice, oat, almond, cashew, etc. I use unsweetened almond milk most of the time. You can also go 1/2 milk + 1/2 water if you like.

A LITTLE SALT . Might sound strange, but adding salt to your Instant Pot steel cut oats makes a huge difference in taste! It keeps them from tasting flat and really elevates the other flavors. I only use about 1/4 tsp. for about 8 servings, so the end result definitely wont be salty.

TOPPINGS! And now for the fun part! There are so many yummy ways to top Instant Pot steel cut oats! Scroll down to the toppings section below for 7 of my favorite combinations.

    What Are Steel

Steel-cut oats are oat groats sliced by steel blades. They are also referred to as Irish oats, Scottish oats, pinhead oats and coarse oats.

When cooked, they retain a chewy interior and develop a nice creamy exterior. If prepared right, the contrast in textures is quite pleasant.

Steel-cut oats hold up better when prepared and stored in a large batch. They retain their bite and chew. Cooked rolled oats soften in the refrigerator after a day or two and get fairly mushy.

You can try different toppings daily so youll never get bored. For recipe ideas, check out my Steel Cut Oatmeal Toppings post. All are vegan and gluten-free!

    Why Are Steel

This is possibly due to steel-cut oats being viewed as healthier because they are less processed. Whole grains and whole foods can often be priced higher as the demand for healthier foods grows.

I do find them to be more filling. I often have less per serving than I would regular oats. So a package lasts me about the same amount of time.
