The Little Beet Table used to be 100% gluten-free but recently expanded their options to include gluten items. However, every dish on the menu can be made gluten-free and the restaurant takes cross-contamination seriously. They take reservations and have a great outdoor seating area do yourself a favor and get the sunflower seed hummus with gluten-free pita!

Located on the Lower East Side, I had read about this gluten free bakery in NYC before my short trip in 2016, but I didnt have the time to make it there on that trip. This time, it was at the top of my list, and it should be at the top of yours too.
What I really came here for was the gluten free donuts in NYC. Im a sucker for gluten free donuts , and I just dont find many good ones that I can eat.
Lucky for those of us with celiac disease, Erin Mckenna has us covered.
They also have locations in LA and Orlando, if you happen to be in the area I highly recommend a stop to stock up on some gluten free treats! Youll also find a wide range of cookies, pastries, cupcakes the list goes on.

13. Italian gelateria Grom has opened two New York outposts, and your tastebuds deserve a try. ALL of the their ingredients are gluten free, and certified by the Italian celiac association. .
14. Craving a rich, rice-based Italian meal? Risotteria Melottiis 100% gluten free, delicious, and worth a stop if you have the time. Try their shrimp and lemon risotto, or if you wanted a classic option, their mixed mushroom dish.
15. On the Upper West Side, newcomer Le Gourmand NYChas organic, gluten free baked goods in a 100% gluten free facility. Croissants look fabulous, as do their innovative matcha pastry with mango and avocado.
17.Senza Gluten has 100% gluten-free menu. I usually dine at places for both celiacs and non-celiacs, since most of my friends eat their gluten. But if youre particularly worried or youve got more than one GF eater in tow, this is a good bet.

Modern Bread & Bagel: 100% Gluten Free Bagels Yes Please
I havent actually been here yet, but I feel like I have with all of the Instagram bagel pics Ive seen. Tragically, they opened a week after my trip, so Ill have to wait until next time.

IndayUpdate from the restaurant: First I want to let you know that our entire Inday classic menu is still 100% gluten free. The chapathi is a part of our new dinner offering and is the only item on our menu that contains gluten. Most importantly, from the moment that any gluten-containing ingredient arrives in the restaurant, it is handled separately. We store it in a designated container that is stored in an isolated location in the kitchen. Food using this ingredient is prepared in a specified area on a prep table that is thoroughly sanitized before and after each task. Additionally, weve scheduled prep time for the chapathi so that it does not overlap with other prep work. And finally, we have a designated cooking vessel dedicated only to cooking chapathi bread.

Why I Dont Like To Parbake This Pizza Crust
Ive tried making this pizza by parbaking the crust, which usually involves baking the crust alone, without any toppings until its just set. You can then remove it from the parchment paper, add your toppings, and bake again until everything is bubbling and set. But your crust may not be truly foldable if you do that.
To make sure that we have exactly the right chew and texture , I prefer to top the crust when its raw but shaped. Then, we bake it in a very hot oven for no more than 10 minutes. In fact, I usually bake it for less.
If youre baking it on a pizza stone, you should consider pulling out the crust after just 8 minutes. The edges may not be perfectly browned and gorgeous, but the bottom should be just right.
Can I make this crust and freeze it?
Since this question is getting asked a lot, Im adding this right to the text. I dont ever recommend freezing raw yeasted dough. It may kill the yeast.
If you arent satisfied with keeping the raw dough in a sealed proofing bucket in the refrigerator, and just baking it right before you serve it, you can try parbaking but only the classic sense of the technique. That means baking it just until set at a low temperature.
Here, that would mean to bake the shaped crust, plain, at 300°F for less than 10 minutes, until just set. Then let it cool, wrap it tightly, and freeze it. When youre ready to serve, defrost the crust mostly , top, and bake at 450°F as directed.

Located near NYU, Posh Pop is the 4th dedicated gluten free bakery on this list for one simple reason: I didnt make it there on my trip.

Cosme: 100% Gluten Free Mexican Food
For Alyshas 30th birthday, we spent 4 days in Mexico City with Pujol as the food highlight. Everything was superb from the food and drinks, to the service, to the ambiance. The best part? The majority of the menu is gluten free .
One of the things I loved about the experience is it forced me, and Im sure countless others, to reconsider how I thought about Mexican food, which to me is the mark of a great artist.
Thats great, but what the heck does that have to do with Cosme? is what youre probably asking right now.
Cosme is Chef Olveras NYC outpost, serving up the same lovely inventive Mexican food that I remember from Pujol in Mexico City. This time, the entire menu is 100% Gluten free, which makes it a great place for those of us with celiac disease to celebrate a special occasion in New York.
The highlights of the menu, at least for me, were the Cobia al pastor , and the Duck Carnitas with tortillas and a variety of salsas .
Just like at Pujol, the tortillas are outstanding, and are quite possibly the real highlight of the meal. No matter how hard I try, my tortillas are never even half as good as some of the ones that come out of Cosme and Pujol.

Little Beet Table: Gluten Free Brunch In The Flatiron
UPDATE FOR 2020: Little Beet Table is NO LONGER 100% GLUTEN FREE. Its unfortunate for Celiacs. They still have gluten free options on the menu, but youll have to do some due diligence to figure out if you feel safe enough to eat there.
The Little Beet Table was a surprise to me it is a dedicated gluten free facility, but I wasnt expecting the food to be quite as good as it was.
The Little Beet is a chain of fast-casual restaurants around the city, but they have one location near the Flatiron Building that is a trendy sit down spot. Lucky for me, it was just around the corner from the hotel we stayed at for part of the trip.
I went twice once for brunch and once for a quick solo dinner, and both times I thought the food was outstanding.
For brunch, the menu has options from Shakshuka with gluten free pita bread , to gluten free pancakes, and everything in between. The space is really nice lots of natural light and people chatting and enjoying their food. I really enjoyed brunch, and the place was packed.
Get the Shakshuka. Seriously. Dont hesitate.
Its a little on the pricey side, but its worth it when you consider the quality ingredients they use, and the fact that the entire facility is gluten free. No risk of cross-contamination!

Friedmans: Celiac Safe Fried Chicken & Waffles
This is the final restaurant in the Celiac-must-eat trifecta the other two being Senza Gluten and Bistango.
The food is what I would call upscale American think burgers, sandwiches, salads, etc. Almost everything on the menu can be made gluten free and the best part is the gluten free flag that marks your dish as it is served to you.
But I visited for one thing, and one thing only. I walked in, asked for a table for one, sat down at the communal high top, and waited in anticipation.
The waiter walked over. I made eye contact. He asked how I was doing and what I would like to eat.
I said Im a celiac, and I would like the fried chicken and cheddar waffles with habanero honey gluten free please.
The rest is history!
They have several locations across the city and do a great job of catering to those of us with celiac disease. They have dedicated fryers and prep areas. Its a great place to grab a quick breakfast or lunch.
I didnt make it back for seconds, but once was enough for me to know that it is a celiacs paradise. Order the fried chicken and cheddar waffles extra habanero honey.
