While there arent many gluten-free cake options out there, you may want to make something for a special occasion for the gluten-free person/people in your life. What Gluten Free Cake Mix Do You Use

So, I tried out both King Arthur Gluten-free Yellow Cake Mixand Krusteaz Gluten-free Yellow Cake Mix. I know there are others out there, but I find these are typically easily found in big box stores . Please note that if you have a dairy allergy like we do, that some gluten-free box mixes use milk in their powdered mixes, so if you choose to try this formula on another box mix that you read the label carefully.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU CANT EAT BEANS?

Ive had some readers lament when I use aquafaba, like in my fluffy pancakes. I simply adore aquafaba . It whips up like eggs whites and its the closest egg white substitute Ive ever found. However, I know some people cannot do beans. While I have not personally tried this, I have had some readers have success using applesauce instead of aquafaba. I just feel that applesauce is heavier and since it cannot whip it does not give the same lightness and texture a whipped aquafaba will. I prefer the crumb of my cake to have some air holes and not be dense. By using aquafaba, I feel this is the closest way Ive ever found to achieving the most real like cake crumb and mouthfeel.

Also, for those wondering that have never used aquafabathere is ZERO hint of bean flavor. PHEW! Youd never know.

Best Vanilla: Bob’s Red Mill Gluten

Bobs Red Mill is a leader in baking mixes, and its gluten-free yellow variety is the best around. Its moist, fluffy, and delicious all on its own, but it also provides a great neutral base for fancier desserts, like pineapple upside-down, carrot, or fresh lemon cake.

If you want, you can also use this mix to make a white cake instead of a yellow one. Just use egg whites in place of whole eggs. Most reviewers say its so good that if you dont tell people its gluten-free, they won’t be able to tell the difference.

Betty Crocker Chocolate Brownie

As much as we wanted to love the ultimate, tried-and-true Betty Crocker brand, this mix didnt quite do it for us. As far as flavor, there was a weird, chemical-like aftertaste that was rather hard to get past. One reviewer said, Something is not good. Rancid? So, not quite the reaction youre wanting from a boxed brownie. The texture was fine, but the issues with the flavor made this option one of our least favorites.

Pamelas Chocolate Brownie Mix

If loving this brownie more than anything is wrong, I dont want to be right. Chocolatey, chewy, and crispy all in one bite, the Pamelas gluten-free brownies are the best on the marketeven her gluten-free flour is the best. Its All About The Batter

Starting with changes to the batter mix is probably the most important way to make a cake taste better especially if its gluten-free. Keeping it moist can be tricky, so lets take a look at some tips!

  • Beat the Mix Well this may seem odd, as were so often told with gluten-containing mixes not too beat too much. But thats not the case with gluten-free! They need to be aerated. So get beating and add air to that mix!
  • Utilize the Sugar Brown sugar is far more moist than white, so its a great alternative to make the final product moister. Also using more sugar than usual is a great way to make the mix better.
  • Use Soda Pop this may sound wild but it adds more air to the cake and I mentioned earlier how that makes the cake lighter and fluffier!

The Vanilla Mix Is Best For Cupcakes Or Cookies

I do have to be honest with you, though, about the vanilla cake mix: If youre making gluten free vanilla cupcakes, this mix is amazing. The cupcakes have the most tender, perfect crumb and perfect vanilla taste.

If youre making a straight-up vanilla cake, though, I really prefer my recipe for The Very Best Gluten Free Vanilla Cake. Creaming the butter and sugar first, as we do in that cake, plus sifting the flour is really the only way to get a perfect vanilla cake.

What Other Cookies Can You Make From A Cake Mix

You can make almost any flavor of drop cookie from a cake mix. If youd like to make chocolate cookies, youll start with a chocolate cake mix. I havent tried this particular recipe with a chocolate cake mix, but I bet it would work well.

My first cookie made from a cake mix is these cheesecake cookies, and they remain one of my favorite cookies of all time. With a few other tweaks, I was able to make those into chocolate cheesecake cookies, too.

Most cake mix cookies are, well, cakey since they begin with a cake mixand a cake mix tends to have a fair amount of chemical leavener in it. But these cookies have just the right amount of butter and eggs added. Bake them just right and youve got perfectly chewy cookiesin 15 minutes flat.

Ingles Gluten Free Chocolate Cake Mix

Krusteaz® Gluten Free Yellow Cake Mix 18 oz. Box

I had low expectations for this mix since it’s a store brand, however, I was pleasantly surprised at how much this cake mix tasted like a homemade chocolate cake. Unlike the others, this recipe called for a stick of softened butter, which added a lovely richness to the batter. The ingredients included cane sugar, brown and white rice flour, cocoa powder, potato starch, tapioca starch, baking powder, sunflower lecithin, xanthan gum, and natural vanilla flavor. It was also the cheapest option of the bunch.

On my lunch break, we loaded up the car with the winner and headed up the mountain to my husband’s family holler. We dropped off the cake to his grandparents and waved as we drove past his uncle leaf blowing the road as the family cattle looked on.

It was a fine cake, according to Papaw.

How To Adapt A Gluten

Have you ever noticed there are several boxed versions of gluten-free cake, but none that are gluten, dairy and egg free? Theres four total ingredients to this yellow cake. Keep this handy for when you have a last minute birthday party for any of your food allergy friends or family!

Youve loved and enjoyed my allergy-friendly chocolate cupcakes for quite some time. And, youve asked that I give you a yellow cake recipe. The only problem was that I couldnt find a version I loved. Because there is more starch in gluten-free baking, things can turn out too gummy, and this was the case no matter what recipe or version I tried. I didnt want to give you guys something you wouldnt like.

I also knew that you wanted something easy, fast and convenient. Often times, theres a plethora of gluten-free flour mixes and each are good for different things. I thought it might be nice to not have to purchase certain flours or grains to make a specific flour blend for this gluten-free vegan yellow cake. It might be nice to just pick up the flour pre-made in the form of a box mix.

Is The Cake Mix Really Gluten

Baking Gluten Free with Betty Crocker Cake Mixes

There has been a lot of speculation as to whether the cake mix is 100% free from gluten. Although there are no gluten-containing ingredients in the mix, the mixes are not made in a dedicated gluten-free facility. And the brand is not certified gluten-free. This means that the products are not tested for gluten.

As the brand doesnt only supply gluten-free products, this may be a worry for some. However, after extensive research, most gluten-free individuals can eat these cake mixes with no problems at all. Some individuals have even done their own at-home testing and the results were no gluten at all this is great for peace of mind.
